Natural movements, simple tools, and the modern science of what actually makes a youthful body and brain. Return to the essence of movement to work out less, get more from each session, and enjoy the journey as much as the destination (s).
It’s not just changing up tools and techniques, it’s shifting the entire mentality!
Gymnasium blends modern science with old time tools and traditions into thoughtful, skill-based approach to transforming your body. Classes include bodyweight workouts, kettlebells, swinging clubs, circuits, interval cardio, and minimalist running.
Our approach to exercise is also available in private and small group settings.
Gymnasium’s goal is to transform exercise from the soul-less, huff-and-puff errand of intensity back into a tool for living a more interesting, inspired life.
History
Established in 2010.
To start, we thought about deeper motivations. A more complete picture of fitness: Performance, but not at the sake of long-road viability. Transformation, but not just on the outside, from the inside out. And a community and sanctuary to share the path. O
Gymnasium is dedicated to Strength & Movement. What does that mean? It’s the two elements of any fitness: Strength is your capacity, Movement is your ability. It’s what your body needs to cross a finish line, take up ballet, and carry your kid (or grandkid) up the mountain.
Strength in a number, Movement is a word
Strength is engineering, Movement is design
Strength is math, Movement is art
Strength is yang, Movement is yin
Strength is knowledge, Movement is wisdom
Strength & Movement will make you more athletic, leaner, more aware, more present and stand taller, and move better in everything you do.
Meet the Business Owner
J Forrest C.
Business Owner
J Forrest Conway is a proud Midwesterner, and founder of Gymnasium and its Strength & Movement programs. Friends call him Josh. He’s a runner, cyclist, swimmer, rower, weight-lifter, rock climber, snowboarder, and martial artist. He’s run a 4:30 mile and a 16 minute 5K, lifted big weights, won collegiate rowing championships, taken and dished out hard punches, skied and climbed big mountains, surfed big waves. Though these experiences taught him much about himself, the high-performance path is short and narrow. As with most athletes, it ended in multiple breakdowns.
After 12 years of learning, training and coaching a new approach to training for sustainable awesome. He’s dedicated his life to cultivating and sharing this path with anyone who wants to find theirs. Gymnasium Strength & Movement is not just his business, it’s his kung fu, his yoga, his path. He’s inspired by seeing people find more ability, more transformation, more capacity for life, sport, and everyday adventure.
