We decided to have lunch here today and I’m so glad we did! Our favorite Peruvian spot to eat is Pio Pio in NYC. Given were Jersey natives now, we have to make the best of our new environment. We found this place based on the reviews. PROS: — we were instantly greeted and seated — our orders were taken immediately — our hostess was friendly and polite — our food was fresh! From the avocado salad to the seafood fried rice we ordered CONS: — the only con would be the parking. The area is extremely narrow and tight. I would definitely recommend this place for those who enjoy Latin cuisine! Oh! And they only serve chicken Thursday through Sunday(not a pro or con… just a fact).

I’m a contractor and often Unilocal areas do have lunch with my co worker’s where we unfortunately stumbled on to this spot. Totally had bad service i waited for a plate of here chaufa rice for 40 min while my 2 friends dines on there ceviche within ten minutes of being there. After the half an hour of waiting at lunch I complained and asked for a plate from there hot food stations which they did not want to give me, finally the food came out and it was salty and not worth the 17 dollars I payed for the dish. I did not eat the whole meal and was asked what happened? I explained the experience to the waitress in Spanish and was basically told that I should have complained about the dish when it was served 45 min into service. No good the place and the friends who I dined with had salty food as well. Don’t go here at lunch bad service

Wanted to eat some good food and came across El Palacio Del Pollo… To be a Friday afternoon or rather evening(5 pm) it was fairly packed… It seems like is more of a takeout spot. lots of customers going in and out… Anyway I’ve been to several Peruvian restaurants and this one is kind of pricey … It was $ 15 + a plate to be in west orange it is kind of pricey … As soon as we got seated, the waitress was nice and came along w Peruvian corn which unlike other Peruvian restaurants was nice and warm and water… I like that a lot of places u have to wait until you place your entrees to get water let along bread… Hubby ordered half a chicken and it comes along w fries and salad along with that delicious spicy green sauce… I ordered arroz chaufa con mariscos = seafood fried rice and it was delicious now I see why their prices are a little high for the area… Not only does it feed at least 4 people w one order but it was delicious… No complaints. My husband’s food was very tasty as well… I just had to have a pieces… The rotisserie chicken was flavorful, tender, but a little salty but still delicious… Definitely a place I will revisit…

I love love love this place. Food is always ready to serve. I come here every Friday with my family. The only thing I do have a small issue is that some of the waitress are slow. You gotta stare them down for their attention. Overall I’ll be back again

Sad, but I have to deduct a star based on most recent experience. If this had been my first experience at Palacio I would have walked away and never looked back. Waited at least half an hour for take out chicken, the chicken was dry and overcooked, and the side salad was already wilting with limpy brown leaves. Fries were ok. We tried a soup that was more pasta soaked in some broth rather than a legitimate soup. Not sure if this time was a fluke, but disappointing enough to update my previous review.

Went here for the first time today when I came across the positive reviews to try the pollo a la brasa. This is by far the best rotisserie chicken I’ve ever had. It’s loaded with flavor and very juicy… most definitely beats the store bought rotisserie chickens. The chickens are so clean that every little bit of meat comes off, literally no waste. The pollo a la brasa comes with a whole chicken, fries and a side salad. Plenty of food for two meals even. Highly recommend this place! Some things to note: 1) They are off a side street in West Orange. There is mainly street parking and a small lot attached to the restaurant. 2) I didn’t hear a single person speak English, so it’s definitely helpful to know Spanish. Thankfully, I speak it. I’m sure if you don’t and point to the menu they’ll know what you want. 3) Pollo a la brasa is only available on the weekends. 4) If paying with a credit card, you will be charged sales tax; paying cash gets charged menu price. Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food you get. Come hungry!

Very good food! Never had Peruvian before, so can’t vouch for how authentic it is. Prices are up there, but worth it because proportions are huge. Rotisserie Chicken is only available Thursday-Sunday though.

My boyfriend and I worked up an appetite while moving into the area. I Unilocaled around and found this place so we walked over and got the whole Pollo a la Brasa with a Papa Rellena(stuffed potato). With his mouth semi-full of chicken, my bf blurted out: «this is the juiciest breast besides yours»…what exactly he meant by «yours» is for your dirty minds to figure out… but no, really, I can’t make chicken as juicy and flavorful as this place. I’m definitely a fan!

I came here for lunch because I wanted to try something new in the surrounding area. I’m really happy I tried this place. Service is a little spotty(inattentive at times) but still very friendly! Being friendly always goes a long way. There are two things on their lunch specials menu($ 5 …$ 7 with Soda/Water and Chicken Soup): Beef with red sauce, mashed potatoes and rice and Arroz Chaufa con Pollo. I decided to get the Arroz Chaufa which was really really good. Though I was told it would be smaller portions, it definitely was generous! I had enough to take home for another meal or two. I would definitely go back to try their Peruvian Chicken and Lomo Saltado(which is my favorite Peruvian dish).

My boyfriend and I decided to try out this restaurant based on the good reviews and we loved it! I had the seafood fried rice and he had the shrimp fried rice which were both absolutely delicious! By the way one order could feed two people but we just took the rest home and ate it the next day. We were so stuffed we forgot to order tres leche cake for dessert. We’ll be going again soon! :)

Delicious, authentic Peruvian food. Portions are huge and each dish can feed at least 2 people. Plus, I love going to restaurants where I can practice my Spanish. Can’t wait to go back and try the pollo a la brasa(apparently only available on the weekends).

Absolutely delicious Pollo a la brassa. We ate an entire chicken each(with enough left over for lunch the next day). Wish it were available all week long so we could order it more often. Next time we will skip the fries as they were soggy and bland, but the fried plantains and tres leches cake were totally worth it. I will also be trying the other dishes eventually since the whole menu looks good. Doubt I will ever dine in though since there are signs everywhere saying«you are on camera», etc. which leads me to believe it’s not the safest place to hang out. That’s not going to stop me from doing take out though! Also the manager speaks fluent English, so don’t let the fact that the rest of the staff doesn’t deter you.

Service was so helpful even though they didnt speak or fully understand english. Their seafood soup was enjoyable for 3 people. Also their shrimp fried rice was out of this world! Enjoyable desserts. Not fancy but its a nice experience coming here. Without a doubt one of the best Peruvian restaurants nearby!

I have been going to Palacio for about 1 – 2 times weekly two+ years now. What started as an occasional after-work quick stop has turned into a long-term comfort regular. After these two recent experiences, my appreciation for them grew bigger… Recently for my birthday, I was deciding between two restaurants to have 13, non-Hispanic family members for a celebratory dinner. For three weeks I was asked from Grandma(whose less-than-adventurous palette hails from N. Carolina), «Where will we be eating? I know you eat that weird stuff. Will there be something for me to eat?»(of course, by «weird» we mean: sushi, or anything from a restaurant with a menu in a second language.) Grandma is only ONE of our finicky eaters. From 16months to 76+ years old, ALLTHIRTEEN guests were clearing their plates of ALLFOUR dishes selected for the table: * Ensalada de(avocado salad) * Arroz Con Mariscos(seafood rice) * Pollo con Fritas(rotisserie chick + fries) * Tres Leche(cake with three milks) Total cost(for 16ppl): less than $ 200. A week ago I invited a date to try Palacio. Unlike my Grandma, having traveled internationally quite a bit, my date’s palette is used many«weird» tastes. One thing to note, however, is that he is also a very good cook, can be highly critical of lack-luster food, and has a true obsession with jabonero peppers(aka he likes EVERYTHING spicy– really spicy). For the main dish I ordered a Mixed Seafood Stew, which he thoroughly enjoyed(without«doctoring up») and was even impressed with their spicy Peruvian green sauce! We also had avocado salad, tres leche, and sangria :) MYTIPS: Try this place and the above mentioned dishes– they are cost efficient, always fresh, and have NEVER failed me. Clean, professional, casual, low-key, family friendly with plenty of seating. Reservations are usually unnecessary. ***Great place with good company. For so-so company, the ambience could be much more interesting. ****If you don’t speak any Spanish, ask for Jorge(manager), or point to the menu.

Initially I was not impressed with this place. The tables are covered with linens but then covered again with clear plastic. This plastic cover lays on my lap and goes to my knees. I don’t like the feel of the plastic sticking to my bare legs. The service is slow. The drinks are not on the menu. Our waiter asked if we wanted water or soda. We forgot this place has a bar. The menu is pricey. Unilocal needs to reflect that. After waiting a while, about 25 min, our food was finally served. Now I’m impressed. Each of our plates was enough for 2. And the food is real good. The atmosphere is meh. I liked our food, but probably wouldn’t come back

I really like El Palacio a lot. As previously noted, this is run by the people who ran Miriam’s which used to be across the street. I went there for some years, occasionally having a delicious lunch in the company of many Spanish speaking locals and sometimes having the rotisserie chicken with my family in the evening. Miriam’s closed a few years ago after a fire and El Palacio opened up about a year ago – whenever I’ve been there, Miriam herself is presiding. Warning: the rotisserie chicken is only available Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Do NOT show up any other day hoping for chicken because you will only hope. The grilled meats are wonderful as is the namesake chicken, white beans, stuffed potatoes, tamales, all delicious. If you bring some Spanish, it can only be helpful – you can order by pointing at pictures if you have difficulty. The service is very friendly, if a little harried when busy. Take the kids on a weekend night and get some chicken and whatever else intrigues you – you’ll have fun. The ensalada de palta(avocado salad) is wonderful!
