History

Established in 2012.

The Tin Fish was given its name due to ironic circumstances. While planning a restaurant in Old Town, San Diego in 1998, Joseph Melluso, the founder of The Tin Fish, submitted a request for proposal. As he studied the history of the property, he discovered – ironically – that in 1856 a local hardware merchant owned this property. Of course, hardware merchants of the era did more than just sell hardware: the owner was also the local gadget fixer and tinsmith. As a «value added,» (and here’s where the irony comes in) he sold fish in front of the property. Joseph decided to name his newest restaurant to honor him. However, «The E.W. Nottage Tin Shop Museum Restaurant» proved a bit cumbersome, and so, the «The Tin Fish» name was conceived. Two years later, in 2000, Joseph Melluso opened the first The Tin Fish restaurant on the Imperial Beach Pier, California, and the business began to grow. The Tin Fish on Clematis Street is the newest edition to this wonderful restaurant name. Check us out

Food was not as expected. Service was minimal and lousy. Got lobster tacos and they were not really edible. Very chewy and didn’t taste good. Pictures on Unilocal looked good. Musta been when they first opened. Also, no circulation of air in here and it is hot and uncomfortable. 1 star at best.

We walked in and walked out. Never had been to this restaurant before, but figured we would try it out. Upon arrival I asked an employee what was upstairs. She was unfriendly and bothered by my inquiry. It’s amazing how first impressions can steer locals right out the front door.

We always go upstairs and sit at the bar. We love happy hour here! Prices are great and I cannot say enough about how delicious the food is! If you are new try the mussel garlic pot! Their tacos are wonderful and we have never had a bad experience. If I could make one suggestion, it would be more help for the bartender. Sometimes she is the only one serving and needs some help! Even under stress she is always awesome (sorry, we cannot remember her name). Also, oysters are always big and juicy!

We have a tin fish by us in Sunrise. I think that one has more character than the one in west palm beach. The location here was beautiful despite the death clouds rolling in. It wasn’t busy here. We were sat immediately outside and ordered the jalapeño poppers to start. They were delicious! My boyfriend and I were here celebrating his birthday. We ordered the three fish combo with blackened mahi, tilapia, and salmon with scallops and shrimp. He had the combo garlic pot with added linguine. That was even better! The garlic bread was also wonderful. We topped the meal off with a slice of birthday key lime pie which was more like cheesecake. It was very rich. We were kinda hoping for a meringue type dessert. It doesn’t matter. It was on the house. Such a nice thing we also redeemed the free draft beer through Unilocal.All in all it was a good experience.

The seafood is really fresh! No frills down to earth great food. Local beer on tap (if you check in they have a promo for a free beer or wine!) we started with the kaboom shrimp. Large portion high quality shrimp! I ordered the oyster and fish plate. The fried oysters were very fresh and the cod was really good!

Terrible service.
After waiting for about 30 minutes, we only had our drinks (and barely even that).
We had to nearly beg to order and waited about 5 minutes for the high chair we had asked for upon arrival.
The chips and salsa we had ordered as an appetizer still weren’t out 20 minutes after our food order.
The restaurant was pretty empty and the staff seemed just unavailable. We left after lust payments by for our sodas. Ugh.
The pizza next door was fast and good.

Shrimp tacos were excellent! Had the right amount of shrimp. Better to order the double plate and get Cole slaw. Sweet potatoes fries are excellent! Steamed combo had the right amount of garlic and was not short the amount of fish. You want to add pasta to it for it to be more filling. Someone near me ordered oysters and they looked excellent. Service was 10⁄10. Free beer with check in!

When you say «Tin Fish» I should have caught on to what was going on here. The fish is certainly not fresh and possibly from a tin can? The name says it all.
Of course, there is no arguing with the hundreds of reviewers that are very happy about the size of the screens and the clientele at the bar after a hard day of work, I am sure they enjoyed it, and I would too if I was critical of such things but when I see a sign that says «fresh fish» right there on the wall, I would like them to put their money where their mouth is. Not put my money on what my mouth does not get (see what I did there?)
Help me out here West Palm Beach, I see that you are only 50 feet from the ocean. You get me all excited about seafood and then you have the «in» decency to serve me FROZEN mussels and FROZEN cod strips? Seriously? Why on earth do you do that to your customers?
I ate boring fried cod and stale scallops. Our waiter was great though, so two stars! Please serve me some fresh seafood next time.

Enjoyed our quick meal here on the weekend. We were around the City Place but wanted to eat some place less like a chain. We tried the burger and the combo seafood garlic pot. Both were pretty good and at a decent price. We came pretty early and the service was good. It mainly is a seafood place but there are a few non-​seafood options. Burger is huge.

This was the be at meal of my weekend trip. Great seafood stop. Had the lobster bisque to start and it was so creamy. I had the fried clans with waffle cut fries. The fries were addicting. My BF had the mixed seafood grill which was stacked with 3 types of fish, shrimp, and scallops. He was very content as it is hard to find a seafood combo that isn’t fried. Both of had the cole slaw which was AMAZING. We sat outside and watched the people walk by in the park across the street.

nice restaurant/​bar located in downtown west palm beach. I have only been herr on Tuesdays for happy hour bc they serve $ 2-​$ 3 tacos and ½ off drinks (latter being weekdays 4 – 7). There are 2 levels but i eat downstairs. I believe they have Bingo nights upstairs too. The bartender Laurie is a sweet and very efficient. i will come back!

Started with the Conch Fritters and Clam Chowder. Both were good, in fact, we had to order a second cup of soup for our toddler who’s never liked soup.
My husband and I both had the tacos. I had the Mahi Mahi & the Scallop. He tried the Lobster tacos. All 3 were very tasty. Although, we both agreed that the strength of the shredded cheddar detracted from the over all flavor. If we return, we’ll skip the cheddar & add more sauce.
We did take our servers advice & went 2 doors down for ice cream after our meal. Glad she suggested that :)

Casual beach type of place in the city on Clematis St.
Apptzr: Conch Fritters are excellent… great flavor.
Soup: had the New England clam chowder-​great taste and plenty of clams, veggies and very creamy.
Entrée: wife and I both had fish tacos. She had Mahi Mahi and Scallop tacos. I had Mahi Mahi and lobster tacos.
Both were excellent and they give you a healthy portion. Great tacos at Tin Fish! Only suggestion is — use a different cheese (ours came with cheddar) to minimize the impact of a string cheese that over powered the fish.
4 yr old: our son had the fishette plate and a cup of the clam chowder which he loved.
Server: both gals working when we at today were great! Our server (Tracyann) was especially good and a professional. Very attentive.
