History
Established in 1980.
Jan Boyd Calligraphy grew out of a love of lettering and design and a need for a home based business when Jan and her husband had their first children — unexpected twins! Jan’s former full time employment as a Social Worker was no longer possible and so a part-time hobby became the beginning of a growing lettering and design business. Now, over 30 years later, the business flourishes as a more than full time occupation, still operating out of a home studio in Boston.

Jan B.
Business Owner
Calligrapher Jan Boyd is the sole calligrapher and artist for the Jan Boyd Calligraphy Studio. After several years as a professional Social Worker (while studying and enjoying calligraphy and art in any free time available), Jan decided to focus on creating a professional calligraphy studio in her home as she raised her children. The studio opened in 1980 and has grown and flourished ever since.
Over the years, Jan has continually studied art and calligraphy in local and national classes. She is currently actively studying all aspects of the book arts and has begun creating individually designed books incorporating her calligraphy, paper designs (using paste paper, marbellizing and photo techniques) and various types of bindings.
Jan has studied with Sheila Waters, Reggie Ezell, Peter Thornton, Harvest Crittenden and Sharon Zeugin, among others, to further her lettering and design skills.
