Rip snortin, rootin tootin, bing bang boom, legit bar with atmosphere courtesy of a cross section of locals who have emblazoned their vibe from wall to wall, floor to ceiling, especially in the retired firemen’s hats that hang from above. This place delivers a slice of Americana you won’t often see, a somewhat older crowd some«grey hairs» but follow these people cause these folks know where good food and value are to be found. Their is an underground network of communication among people in the Food Service Industry ie, waiters, waitresses, bartenders, cooks, chef’s and the like, when these folks consistently mention a place they like to hang-out, it is a good bet you might want to take a look-see. I arrived at just before 6pm and the place was busy, ordered a Heineken and The Double Dipper sandwich basically a Reuben consisting of pastrami, corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and thousand Island Dressing. The sandwich was grilled perfectly, plump and tasty, I should have ordered extra TI Dressing but no matter the sandwich was a good one and came from the kitchen in short order. My bill: sandwich $ 6.95, Heineken $ 3.00 with tax out the door a mere $ 10.70 whaaat!!! Burgers with fries ranged from $ 4.50 to $ 6.95, 10 ounce strip steak with coleslaw and fries $ 10.00, fish and chips $ 6.95, many of my underground foodie worker friends tell me this is where they come for steak. I can’t speak to the steak quality as yet but you can tell where this review is headed, yup, right back to Collin’s Tavern at some point.

Collins Bar is a disgrace, they pride themselves with banners of military insignia plastered all over the walls and yet they treated me like garbage after they were done taking my money. I am a disabled combat veteran myself, even had a wounded warrior project hat that day. I took some friends because I lived right next to the place. We were just chatting having a drink and eating. The first bartender was nice, however the other bartender came in and began scolding us for no reason,(I think its because he heard me briefly speak some Spanish to one of the co-workers) They ended up making up an excuse to kick us out. No one in my group was rude or loud, However they were cursing at us telling us we don’t belong there so on and so forth. So, any veterans out there reading this forget this place, its an illusion that they support us. When I tried to diffuse the situation I told the small older person«Listen we don’t want any trouble, if you want us to leave we will, no problem, I am a veteran recently returned and figured this was a nice place because of all the emblems on your wall» he answered by saying he didn’t give a f*** about my service I don’t belong there. Great little dive bar. And I mean that in the nicest way. Great local watering hole. Good cold beer. Great bar food … Better than chilis or any other chain you’re gonna go to. And you won’t spend a lot. There’s a great atmosphere. Pool table and plenty of larger TVs to catch the game. The bar tenders and super quick, friendly and nice to chat with. Never had a warm beer or bad food here. Great cheap eats — ice cold beer — fun crowd and staff!

Had an opportunity to stop in on Wednesday for the cheeseburger chowder. Excellent as usual. The special of the day was a slow cooked pork over Spanish rice. They need to keep this one on the menu! A heaping of tender juicy pork sitting on top of a beautifully cooked bed Spanish rice. Who could ask for anything more?

After we moved to West Springfield, we wanted to find a local bar where it would be nice to sit and get a drink. Our quick Google search brought us here. We were greeted with stares as we came in the front door. Like Luke Y. suggested, I think we stuck out because we were the only non-regulars. We quickly learned that was the case. Within minutes someone told us we stood out because all of the regulars know to use the back door. It was true, everyone else we saw come in used the back door and was happily greeted by those already there as if they had all been friends for years. They probably have been. The beer selection is ok. We are the craft brew types but those were lacking. The décor was. .um sporty and old. There are dart board and pool tables though. We got a pitcher of some less than average beer. Just so you know it is cash only! And we didn’t get around to trying the food. After our first trip there, we went back once, used the back door, and were greeted in the parking lot by the person who told us the secret about the back door on our first visit. I don’t think this is going to be our go to place for a drink. It just isn’t us.

This review is irrelevant. No one’s going to go to Collin’s unless they grew up going there. I went over the holidays and I got a look from everyone inside when I first went in, as maybe everyone in there was a regular. It was like a western when the piano stops playing in the saloon and everyone goes silent for a second. They have a pool table and plenty of space, though it’s really bright inside for a bar since they had lots of fluorescent office building lights on. They had an extensive food menu written across multiple whiteboards, but I can’t speak to it as we just got a few drinks. The clientele could have been an outlier because of the time of year, but it was mostly middle aged adults drinking with their parents. The nominal point of Unilocal is to support local business, but in this case I’m not really sure there is anybody nearby that would love it if only they gave it a chance. I think everyone that might apply to already goes there on a regular basis, and the place is set up to serve them. And that’s not, in the end, a bad thing.
