I am nearly 31 years old now, and I had my first haircut at Nick’s…they have been open a while. They used to be located across from their current location on Westfield Street, but when Sorrento’s Pizza expanded, Nick’s moved to where they are now, which I understand is about to become yet another former location, as it is moving to Agawam. This said, the guys who still cut hair there now… Ralph, Joe, and that other guy whose name escapes me, have been cutting hair at Nick’s for decades. And, they have always done a good job. From kindergarten through college, this is the place I went for haircuts. It’s no frills. There is guy talk. If kids aren’t present, there may be a swear or two uttered. But, entering the barbershop is a blast to the past… a chance to experience one of what used to be tens of thousands of community barbershops across the US before they began being pushed out by high-volume franchises such as Hair Cuttery, Super Cuts, Master Cuts, etc. They cut hair well, and they do it in genuine barber chairs from the 1930’s/40’s. What could be better?
