History
Established in 1911.
The Harvey Farm was a staple in the Westborough, MA community during the late 1800’s. The town’s rubbish collector used a horse and wagon to pick up cardboard from a local supermarket and he would bring it to Harvey farm to bundle and sell to towns such as Worcester and Chelsea. In 1911, the man’s horse died so he walked up to the Harvey farm and asked Emory L. Harvey if he would collect the cardboard on his behalf to honor his contract with the supermarket. Emory obliged the man and this was the beginning of the family business in waste management.
By 1940, the Harvey farm had expanded its recycling program and chose burning over creating multiple landfills to protect their valuable farmland and water supply. By 1960, their two operating landfills were closed and capped according to the MA DEP specification and was transported to waste to energy incinerators throughout New England as the Harvey family was fully committed to recycling and resource recovery.
