Called the day before arriving to advise we would not arrive until after midnight and needed nonsmoking room-was assured that is what I was signed up for. Arrived just after midnight and nobody can be found in the lobby. I walk in and out twice, look around, finally I yell loudly HELLO! And up pops miss sleepy head. I give her my papers and she tells me they only have smoking rooms available. I then advised her that I called the previous day and was assured I would have a nonsmoking room– she says well there’s none available. I told her to look at my face and tell me if I looked like I wanted to play games… a few minutes later I had my nonsmoking room. Getting to the room you walk through a terrible stale smoke smelling hall with carpet that needed replacing 40 years ago. Once in the room I was pleasantly surprised that the rooms were clean and quiet and the beds comfortable. I should not have had to show my irritation to get what I reserved though– glad it was only for 1 night

Seriously just cough up a few more bucks. This place is disgusting. I was helping out a photographer friend and photographing a wedding in Portland with them. They were unable to get me a room anywhere else due to the last minute change. They somehow booked me a smoking room by mistake. If you want to know what hell is like book a smoking room at this motel. The entire room felt wet. I am assuming because it was damp all the time mold was fluorescing because my allergies were going nuts. I thought about sleeping in my car it was so gross. I do realize this was a motel but for the love of all things holy… this is not right. I honestly would rather sleep in a car. Or in a box on the side of the road.

The photo on the Unilocal page is incorrect, that is not the one on Larrabee. I travel often and stay in 2 star hotels all the time and never have many complaints, however this place was horrifying. It was filthy really really filthy. The staff was fine, but the stench inside the room kept me up, I was afraid to touch any surfaces and I slept on top of the bed. Stay clear, unless you are used to sleeping under a bridge, then it may be quite adequate.

All things have to be relative. For the price, this motel deserves the 4 stars. Rooms were a tad small, but adequate. Room was clean. Av kept up with 90 degree heat. I’m not a swimmer, but indoor pool looked very nice and they have a whirlpool. Free coffee available all day, and I think they had cookies at night(I didn’t ask if they were free, but appeared to be). Oh, and my wife said the reclining chair in the room was the most comfortable she’s tried in a motel, anywhere. We travel with our two, larger sized, dogs. Walking around the limited grounds, I have to say that the most responsible dog owners must stay here. Neither my wife nor I saw even one pile left behind by less responsible owners. We’ve stayed across the street at Fireside and always had to look where we stepped. Also the cleaning staff seemed very fearful of dogs, not so at the Super 8. That said, there is room for improvement, but at what price? Don’t misunderstand, I’m willing to pay more, and chose this location for the dogs, not the price. You must be realistic and realize that you get what you pay for; thus 4 stars.

I am a truck driver and most hotels the company pays for are not place I would stay with my wife or family. But I would stay here with them beds are good and the room was very clean plus having a staff that is nice and friendly helps a lot. I would stay here again and tell my coworkers the same.

If you were a fly on the wall, sitting in the lobby at check-in of this hotel, these are the kind of guests that you would likely see: — Long-haul truckers who are passing through, and need 8 hours of sleep before racing off to their next destination. — Poor students/families moving long-distances and are in need of a place to rest their weary bodies for a few hours. — Tour groups on New England trips. — Crack addicts. — This cheap guy, who dragged his fiancée there on a weekend trip. I think she deserves a cookie for complaining less than 35% of the time while at the Super 8. So with all of this said, why does the Super 8 Westbrook/Portland get 3 stars, and not 0? Service, location, and value. And value. And value. Can I say value a few more times to convey the point? The Good: — Excellent location, right off the turnpike. A 15 minute drive on backroads to downtown Portland. And by a Burger King, if you’re into the whole«I need my FRIESNOWDAMNIT» kind of thing late at night,. — Cheap. As in the cheapest rate in the Portland area on Expedia. — Free continental breakfast. This could also go into the ugly section of the review, but free is free is free. Just don’t expect to get something besides 350% of your daily recommended intake of carbs. The Bad: — It smelled a little like 1985, and not in the good«ohhh… that’s nice!» kind of a way, but like the«ohhh… I don’t ever want to walk barefoot on this carpet» kind of a way. — Walls are thinner than you’d like if you don’t want to hear your neighbor’s TV. The Ugly: — Look at the pictures I uploaded. It’s as if the motel your parents conceived you in in 1985 got stuck in a time warp, and never ever updated anything. Anything. The carpets, the beds, the television. All in all, if you’re pressed for a place to stay and are on a budget(since you’re clearly saving all of your $$$ for the Freeport Outlets), this is a pretty respectable choice. If you’re looking to wow the wifey for your 10th anniversary, you’d probably get served divorce papers on Monday if you took her here over the weekend.

When we booked a room at a motel in Portland that turned out to be a nightmare(the Inn at Portland), we called around to find most of our top choices were booked… it is the end of July, and high season, but we hoped to find something in our budget. Called the Super 8, and they had a room for significantly less than other local lodging locations. The young man at the desk was very gracious, allowing us to check out the room prior to committing(after our recent horrific experience, we were not quite as trusting.) We found it to be very clean, no bad odors, clean carpet and nice bathroom, quiet and cool AC unit, NEWMATTRESSES. What a refreshing change, and $ 50 per night less than everyplace else in the area. We were able to relax after a long, hard day, enjoying the quiet and happy to be there. Oh, did I mention the pool?

I still view this as one of the better Super 8s that I have stayed at for the rate that I was promised. As I mentioned in my update though, the rate that was charged was significantly higher than that. My previously good experience with billing at other Super 8s made me less cautious about saving reservation paperwork and confirmation numbers than I would be with some other hotels and I was neither able to get a refund from the hotel nor successfully appeal to my credit card company in order to get the rate that I reserved. On a cost /benefit basis therefore I would downgrade this by 1 or even 2 stars from the level that it would have deserved if the hotel had given me the rate that they had promised.

This is bad… even for a Super 8. Aftter a great experience at the Super 8 in Danbury, CT… I was expecting the same. Think again! One of the worst smelling hotels I have ever stayed in. I wouldn’t touch the pool or complimentary breakfast with a ten-foot pole… just couldn’t trust either of them. I wish I could go back in time and cough up the extra $ 20 to stay in someplace that didn’t scare me. I regret that I am in a beautiful state like Maine and I stayed in this dive.

Staff were unhelpful in the extreme. Cleaning was atrocious. Internet access was OK once you got on, but the log on process was literally the worst I’ve ever experienced. Rooms didn’t smell bad and were pretty quiet. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was unhealthy but plentiful. This is a reasonable compromise if you can’t afford anything better.

It’s a Super 8… I don’t think anyone expects too much. There is an indoor pool, though, and a decent complimentary breakfast for guests.
