Wig Wam Hair

I was a little hesitant to go to this business after reading the reviews, but they were the only store that had the product I wanted. They were very pleasant and knowledgeable on every visit. I actually went in to buy a more expensive wig and they steered me toward a less expensive one because they thought I would like it better. They were right. The only thing I wasn’t’ crazy about is if you want to try a wig in your specific color, they need to order it, and you need to put down a deposit. Since it’s hard to tell if you want a wig if you don’t try it on in your color, I really had no choice. If you don’t buy the wig you loose your $ 100 deposit, but I believe it is a store credit.

I went with my sister to Wigwam today. We were so happy to get there just before they were closing. even though the store was closing they still took time to help us find a a wig that would look nice on my sister. This has been a very emotional experience for both of us and the women that work there obviously knew what people go through when they are looking for wigs. We have been to many places looking for wigs and there have been people that have not been as caring and understanding. My sister ended up getting a beautiful wig and the women were so happy for her. They threw in extra goodies!!! What an amazing experience. We actually laughed and had a good time! I would like to thank you both for a wonderful experience ! We will be back

Woman who was running the store was COMPLETELY unprofessional and rude. Talking down to us. Surprising especially because we were the only customers in the store. Scratched my grandmothers head when ripping a wig off her head, and had no compassion for the situation. Would give zero stars if i could. Take your business somewhere else, this place does not deserve it – or from what it seems, they don’t want it!

I flew in from Tampa to help my mom find a perfect wig as she is going through chemo. Obviously loosing your hair is extremely traumatic and my mother really wanted to go to Wig Wam because of their great selection even though I was concerned based on the reviews. I truly wanted this experience to be positive and I must say it really was. The lady who helped us and the owner Grace were very understanding and provided my mom with great care. They matched her hair color and style identically! They cut the hair to the length she wanted just like a salon and when my mother went home wearing her wig, everyone at home had no idea it was a wig! They thought it was her natural hair which made her feel very happy and less self-​conscious. The service we received was wonderful and they definitely knew what they were doing– 1^st wig was the keeper and they set her up with styling products and shampoo and a stand for her wig. I would recommend them for anyone needing a realistic looking wig. It was the best possible atmosphere considering the tough circumstances.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. 1 star is way more than it deserves. I ordered a wig and I have been wearing it for a year and a half. I paid $ 1200 for the wig because I’ve been wearing them for 5 years now and I wanted a good quality one that will last me a while but the wig i got is disgusting. 20 mins after putting it on it turns into a birds nest all tangled brittle and dry it looks gross. Ive been back to wig wam twice and asked them to help me because I’m 20 and I work part time so $ 1200 takes a long time for me to make. they were so NASTY!!! they said this is how wigs are and their life is only a year and I’m no combing it right and washing it correctly. Ive used every high end product and spent hundreds of dollars on products. Never buy from this place! I’m convinced they gave me something i did not order!

If i could give this store a negative 8 I would in a second! When my mom was diagnosed with cancer we started looking to buy a wig almost right away. Everything was so new and a little frightening. When we walked into wig wam the owner wouldn’t even lift her head to say hi or ask if we needed help. She was to busy buying watches on amazon! (Soooooo sorry to interrupt!) anywho she answered our questions quick and with a full on nasty attitude. She couldn’t be bothered with us the few times we had to go there. I’m sorry but you chose this job you must have a little bit of a compassionate attitude. You have to know you are going to speak to people that have cancer on a daily basis and to treat them like they are a bother to you is truly atrocious. My mom was very upset from the store but unfortunately we had to buy a wig from that hell hole because there prices were not to bad. If you enjoy being talked to like you just had half your brain cut out and enjoy the feeling of being a complete nuisance to someone who has better things to do like shop for gaudy repulsive watches then wig wam is the place for you! I am pretty easy going and especially with my mom having cancer I let basically everything go but the service from the owner of this store was so brutal I had to write about it! My 73 year old mother was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and will be starting chemotherapy soon. She expects to lose her hair, so she wants to get a nice wig ahead of time so she’s prepared for that. Wig Wam is a local store we had passed many times, so one of my sisters called to make an appointment for my mother. They said they did not take appointments and that my mother should would have to come in and be taken care of on a first-​come, first-​served basis. My two sisters, my father and I went with my mother to Wig Wam before noon on a Saturday and we were happy to be helped right away by a salesperson named Grace. Unfortunately, that was the last positive aspect of our experience at Wig Wam.
Grace asked if we were all together and seemed annoyed that there was so many of us. She sat my mother down, asked her a couple of questions about the style and color my mother wanted, and started handing my mother wigs. She had an unfriendly, somewhat irritated demeanor and did nothing to find out whether my mother knew anything about wigs, or try to make my mother feel comfortable at all. She gave my mother no information about how the wigs she was handing us differed from one another, and no instruction about how to put the wigs on.
The five of us talked among ourselves about how the wigs looked, and Grace told my mother not to listen to any of us, just to pick what she liked. That might have been good advice if we were all spouting opinions that were getting in the way of Grace’s efforts to help my mother understand things better, but Grace was barely speaking to my mother as she brought my mom the different wigs. We were all there to support whatever my mother decided, and with Grace offering no assistance herself, her comment sounded oddly isolating and antagonistic.

The wigs Grace brought out were all made of synthetic hair. After looking at them, my mother asked to see a wig made of real hair. Grace’s immediate response was to tell my mother, «those wigs start at $ 600 and up», with a tone that suggested my mother would not be able to afford them. My mother has light colored hair, but she also asked to see a dark colored wig. She smiled at Grace and told her that my grandmother had had dark hair. Grace’s response to my mother was, «You’re here to find a wig, play time is for later», as if she was dismissing a frivolous child.

Throughout our time at Wig Wam, Grace was disrespectful and cold. The entire experience was dehumanizing in a way none of us ever expected to encounter. The diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is frightening and extremely stressful. My mother is working hard to handle this all with as much strength and positivity as she can, but it’s a challenge. Grace’s curt demeanor and lack of interest or compassion, was dehumanizing for my mother at a time when my mom just needed a friendly voice and a helping hand. My mother is a strong woman, but Grace’s approach unsettled her to the point that she turned to my sister and said, «I don’t want to do this today.» We took information about one of the wigs because my mother was afraid she might not find another one she liked, and we all left.
Many people look for wigs because of medical needs. In fact, Wig Wam’s website has a section specifically addressing this. It was so disappointing that during such a vulnerable time for my mother, she (or anyone in her position) would be treated so badly by someone providing this very important personal service. No one, with or without cancer, should feel the way my mother was made to feel when they leave any type of commercial establishment. Wig Wam is conveniently located near my parents’ house and really would have been extremely convenient for them when my mother is going through her chemotherapy. Our experience with Grace was so unpleasant there is just no way my mother would feel comfortable going back.
The good news is that we found a wonderful place immediately afterward in Massapequa that treated my mother with respect and compassion. It was the complete opposite of our experience at Wig Wam. Please look under my name for the review. I’m sure, if you are in a similar situation, you will be thrilled with them.
