I love mcquades due to it’s hometown grocery feel, i love the treats at the bakery but i do agree with one of the reviewer here they let flies feast in their baked goods! Im sorry but that’s disgusting. At least 3x i was here that i wanted to get donuts or cookies but everytime there’s at least one fly. I just gave up. I love the cinnamon rolls that are packed. Anyway, the older guy that works in the seafood section i dont know if he’s racist or what he always give me the shittiest lobsters, all the time. I kept coming back bec they have deals and sometimes lobsters goes as low as 4.99 a lb. He’s not friendly at all and looks like he hates his job, im sorry sir but it’s true. One time, he really looks very aggravated and even throwing the bags down the floor like he’s upset about something. I should say something next time. But anyway, they have a good deli section and also variety of seafood. A little expensive on the grocery side but i love the small town store feel of it.

2 nights ago me and my husband went to the Macquads to buy some cookies than we saw alots of fly in there. 2 of them werer really big and the rest were small. I went to talk to the store manager, he was on his phone and after I told him about the flies he didnt even care to go and see and he went back to

DONTGETLOBSTERSATMCQUADES! They charge $ 8.99 a pound for 2 pound lobster sizes, but what you get are lobsters that are actually only 1.25÷1.5 pound lobsters. And then they have the nerve to tell you that the 2 pounders they are selling you are actually on average about 1.75 pounds. When you ask them to make it right by either giving you the 2 pounders you asked & paid for, or at least refund you the difference, they DON’T. You’re better off going to Pt. Judith/Galilee to get fresh caught lobsters that day & are the TRUE weight you ask & pay for. I’m giving them 1 star because they have RingDings! Can’t get them back home.

I’m giving mcquades 4 stars solely for their cake decorating department. Jessica who did our wedding cake was outstanding. It looked fantastic and more importantly, tasted terrific. Many of our guests raved about how delicious the cake was. As far as the supermarket goes I’ll be honest, the prices keep me away hence only the 4 stars. I’ve found that the employees are terrific and very helpful so if you want a nice shopping experience and don’t mind paying a little extra then this is the place for you.

I love McQuade’s in Westerly. It’s Privately owned. They survive because they are a wonderful, friendly, clean, people oriented, town supporting, local business with the ambiance of an old fashioned market.

McQuades is awesome! My family used to travel to New England every year and we would always hit this place for their muffins and other bakery/gourmet deli options. It’s still a must-stop on the rare occasion that we get up to CT!

Great local grocer. VERY fresh produce(yeah), small pharmacy, EXCELLENT variety of free-range/hormone free meats, fairly fresh fish(for a grocer), local produce and products(e.g. Dave’s Coffee). Attentive and helpful staff who pack your bags and put elastics around your eggs. My only wish: Better vegetarian frozen section.

I don’t know why everyone is harping on McQuades! I love this place. It is much smaller than Stop n Shop or Shaws, allowing you to get in and out very quickly. They have a wide selection of fresh foods, a large deli and butcher area. I’ve found that their fresh food is less expensive than other places, but their boxed stuff is a little higher. Since I try to avoid processed foods… this works in my favor. As long as you stay to the perimeter of the store you will find good deals.(I go to Job Lot when I need to buy almond flour or spices since the spices are jacked up at McQuades.) They always have a sale on some type of meat so if you plan your menu around that you can save a bit of money. I wanted to comment on this since nearly every else did. The Deli Counter. … sure you do have to wait a bit but they are slicing meat so I don’t really want them to hurry. I’ve never been bothered by the wait time.

Found a lot of neat foods in there like take and bake pizza… that actually look yummy. The veggies seem fresher And cheaper than Shaw’s and s&s. They have pretty good deals when u catch them(I once bought like 10 packages of chicken tenderloin cuz they were dirt cheap) I agree with Kris I always feel lost in there. But I do like that the mailed circular tells u what aisle the items are on.

I do not understand all the negative reviews. The place is not that horrible! I’d give them 3.5 but rounded up to 4. My main concern with McQuade’s is that I have no idea where anything is in the place. I’ve been in there enough times but always feel lost. It’s a bit outdated inside & always seems to be crowded. I have waited forever at the deli counter for sandwich meat. It seems there’s no organization so people are all over trying to order. It can be difficult getting in & out of their parking lot especially during the summer time. They do have a pretty good selection of fresh produce & a few niche items to keep me coming back. They are going for a «poor man’s» Whole Foods kinda vibe but just don’t nail it other than higher prices but they’re not outrageous. Overall they have everything you’d expect from a grocery store but fall short of being amazing.

Basically, this place is a Whole Foods meets IGA type place. The prices are at least $ 1 more on average for average goods than Shaws or Stop and Shop. The produce, seafood, meat counter, cheese selection and bakery must appeal to the upwardly mobile wanna be yuppies that swarm in during the summer time because otherwise it’s nothing exceptional and certainly not worth setting foot into McQuade’s for. Like I said, it’s a Whole Foods knock off. Beware the meat counter; I’ve gotten some truly horrible cuts of meat from here that come out nothing short of tire rubber. I’ve had less than fresh seafood. Check the expiration dates on your milk products. And be prepared to deal with the truly inept at the cash registers. I prefer to shop at small places but something about McQuades makes me run for Stop and Shop whenever I’m beach bumming it in Westerly.

We stayed at a friend’s beach house in Rhode Island that wasn’t too far from this market. We wanted to cook up a great dinner with lots of seafood, so we came to McQuade’s. It’s a clean market. All the seafood and produces are fresh. We bought steak, veggies, shrimps, and mussels. Overall, the prices were reasonable and the market had everything we were looking for.

This place has some of the best vegetables locally and a great staff. It is nice to a place where they recognize you and will engage in a short appropriate conversation rather then just talking with another employee while ringing up the sale. They always pack your bag for you and go the extra mile. Like using elastics to keep the egg cartons from opening in the bag to small paper bags to keep the pineapple from poking me when I take it out at home. If you still want to get a video in person and scan the walls for a while they have that too!

McQuades does have good fish and meat, and they make great hamburger patty’s there. You can catch a good sale if you keep and eye on their flyers, and they do take coupons; Internet printed ones included. You can rent really cheap movies, usually a dollar and change BUT they only take cash for the move section, so if you are like me and never carry cash, then you are out of luck. The bad is that 9 out of 10 times that I’m getting something from the bakery or the deli I’m standing there for literally 5 minutes or more. Sometimes I’ll wait but I usually just walk away. I have two small children and I can’t wait 10 minutes for someone to help me, my kids would go nuts. This honestly happens to me almost every time, do you have any idea how long 5 minutes is with a 3 and a 4 year old? Last night my husband, my two children, and I went and he wanted some cream horns from the bakery and we waited at least 5 minutes, at least. This is no exaggeration. While I was waiting and trying to keep my 4 year old under control, I noticed a fly in the other bakery case. That is just nasty, who would want to buy that stuff? Not to mention that all the stuff they make in house is laden with hydrogenated oils and HFCS. You would think with a little in town bakery the food would be more genuine. It’s obviously about their bottom dollar and that’s it. I can go on and on about how long I’ve waited at the deli and bakery counters, or how many rude deli workers I’ve dealt with. Their prices are usually higher for everything, unless you catch a sale. Juicy Juice is $ 2.50 at Stop & Shop but it’s $ 3.50 at McQuades. It’s on average a dollar more for everything. I frequent McQuades as it’s one min away from my house and is convenient for something quick. They need to hire more help, they have to be short handed. I don’t go to the bakery or deli unless I HAVE to and it’s getting to point where I’m going to avoid McQuades altogether. If you want faster and kinder customer service for a bakery I suggest Shaws or Stop & Shop, at least you wont’ waste 20 mins of your day waiting for grouchy customer service.

McQuades is the market in downtown Westerly. Sure, there is a Super walmart, a Super Stop and Shop, and a shaws in town, but no other has consistently good local items and good deals on meat and fish. Plus a very impressive bakery!
