Papa Joe’s Mexican Restaurant

Went back several other times and the food keeps getting worse. The last time it was seriously inedible. The service is always good but the food is just bad now. I really had high hopes for this place.

The food was really bland and atmosphere was kinda awkward I would pick cinco de mayo across the street over this place any day!

Lost its mojo once it moved to the new location. found it to be dirty and greasy tables with greasy food. Disappointed. Used to like the old place.

This is as close to authentic Mexican cuisine as you can get in Westminster! There are definitely some very Americanized menu items but hidden in the menu are some delicious choices! We have always had great, friendly service, although I miss the outdoor seating of the previous location… That made sitting outside sipping a corona much more tempting. My favorite thing on the menu are the authentic Mexican street tacos and shrimp tacos. My husband enjoys the carne asada and the chillequilles (sp?). Definitely worth a visit and inexpensive!

This place went downhill when they moved. I have to think they were better and more profitable at their previous location. They brought out our food with some unidentifiable substance in it and didn’t even apologize. I’ve heard others had the same bad experiences. I really liked them previously but the entire operation from food to staff seems to be going downhill.

Yes, a manager came over. Instead of apologizing it came across extremely like an excuse. My friend actually got up and left eating nothing and they acted like they were doing us a favor not charging for the meal they took back and wasn’t touched. Another time for a birthday celebration there was a long wait so we had them hold the cake. When it turned out the wait became too long to keep waiting they gave the cake back crushed and again instead of apologizing used excuses and said it was already like that. Apologies go a long way and excuses especially when they’re not good ones don’t fly. Like I said it used to be a good place. Maybe they’re overwhelmed and losing touch with the important things like how to talk with people. There are many other options and I unfortunately feel like we lost a good one. If you asked me to rate it 3 years ago I’d give it 5 stars with excitement and a strong recommendation. Not now though.

Visited on a Friday night to see the (new to us) location. We were promptly seated and served chips and salsa right away however her thumb was nail deep in the salsa which was super gross.
She disappeared again and finally came back 10 minutes later to get our drinks. She was moving so fast and buzzing around but seemed to get no where and was not very helpful at all and seemed new or not familiar with the menu.
I ordered the pick 3 combination and my wife ordered the Fajitas and my son got grilled cheese. We watched as the other waiters and waitresses were so on point and friendly and offering suggestions and talking about the specials which we did not even hear about. We would see our waitress fly by but she would not check on us or ask how we were. Since we had to wait so long for the food I got up to ask another waiter if he could bring us 2 more salsa and chips. The food finally arrived and it was just OK, it seemed so much better over at the other location. My 3 items were all very bland with no taste and the fajitas were REALLY salty. She came back to ask how the food was and we said just OK and I ordered a beer… you can see where this is going by now, the beer never made and I had to ask another waiter to have her cancel. We promptly asked for the check and most likely will not be back.
Our waitress was an older lady with grayish hair and to be fair the other staff seemed REALLY good, I think we just either got her at the end of her shift or she is really new but her service was atrocious and the food was just OK and thats all we will remember now of the Papa Joe’s we used to love.

I am totally shocked!!! A friend told me that if I were ever in Westminster to stop in to Papa Joe’s for some authentic Mexican food. I vividly remember telling him that «there is no way that Westminster has authentic Mexican food». Ken I stand corrected. The Carne Asada tacos were taste. The chips and salsa I would rate at a ⁷⁄₁₀. The taco’s I grade out at a ⁸⁄₁₀. Really good food at great prices. If you are in or around Westminster you have got to this this place a try.

My wife and I regularly have date nights at Papa Joe’s. They have excellent food and usually excellent service. Only real downside is that there is typically a wait at peak times. Their fajita rancheros in a spicy cream sauce are the best fajitas around bar none. If your looking for light fare their fajita salads hit the spot! Spend a night at Papa Joe’s and you won’t be disappointed!

Always great food and the best service in Westminster. I don’t understand the no seating until your party is all there when there are some vacant tables. Love papa Joe’s and will continue to go there regularly.

Go there for tacos! I especially like the adobada pork. Pretty authentic and well priced. Wouldn’t recommend much else there though

Bland, bland, bland… if one more person calls this authentic… that is LAUGHABLE! …if they make it, it’s bland… ok, so we tried it: daughter got enchiladas, flour tortillas made them gummy, she was searching for cheese, to no avail. She ordered them with red enchilada sauce and the sauce was horribly disappointing. One of us got chilaquiles… supposed to be spicy… omg VERDE? Seriously? Steak & chorizo torta… NO! Expecting a rich flavor from the chorizo… not! Habanero salsa was a total joke… no spice whatsoever.
Tacos were edible, not at all memorable. Bottlecap jalapenos were edible.
Service was good, minus one creepy guy who was Johnny-​on-​the-​spot, trying to find out how much we liked our food, before we had our first bite. and then he lingered.

I come here regularly. Good food and service. The only complaint is that the salsa (served with the chips) is bland.

We LOVE this place! We just took our german friend here and he loved it too! Keith is amazing! Food is delicious! Can’t wait to come back!

Alright, this place has some of the most amazing tacos I’ve ever had! Their carne asada is done authentically (like for real) and the salsa verde is super spicy and and obviously homemade. Don’t be scared off by the bland exterior; this is a truly great restaurant. You’ve gotta check it out. The prices are incredible for what you get, also!
I had to knock off a star because we waited 10 minutes in a near empty dining room to be greeted and get a drink order in (while other tables were being greeted and asked right in front of us)…that was kind of irritating. But our waiter, Keith, quickly made up for it with excellent service!

One of the best dining places in Westminster. Definitely the best Mexican food!
I have read complaints about the margaritas. Order a «South of the Border» margarita if you want one made in the traditional way and not made from a mix. I make it a habit to drink Margaritas in all of my travels and I continue to enjoy them every visit.
This place is super clean, the owners are incredibly kind, and I’ve never had a meal that was less than amazing. The ranchero fajitas (sans cream), tacos and tamales are my favorite, as well as the tres leches cake. Try the pico de gallo also and kick it up a notch with habanero sauce.
In a town full of mediocre food, this place is a cut above for dinner and drinks or even a casual lunch. And yes-​way better than the chain across the street!

This place is a dump. Not only is it the worst mexican food I’ve ever had in my life but the service is horrendous. They nickle and dime you for everything. My meal didn’t come with sour cream and they charged me $.90. My daughter’s kids meal didn’t come with any dipping sauce for her chicken fingers so I asked for ranch with was $.60. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the bill so I asked our server why all the charges for sauces and she said she doesn’t agree with it but that the owners make her do it. I hope the locals like us speak up and push this restaurant out.

The service was fast, even on a busy Saturday night. I had the Chipotle Chicken Enchilada. It came with rice, beans and a tiny lettuce/​tomato side salad (?). The food was good, but it didn’t knock my socks off. I’m wondering if the popularity of this restaurant is because people like it or because of the dearth of decent Mexican restaurants in the area. I’ll definitely go back and give it another try.

If you’ve actually had Mexican food and come here expecting it, you will be sadly dissapointed. This place is always packed but the carry out order and the meal I had the other night was nothing more than a step above taco bell for quite a bit more cost. The service was good, friendly and above what I expected for being so packed, but the food wasn’t anything special. For Westminster, this is pretty good Mexican food, but for Mexican food, Eh…
I’ve gone back a few times since this is close to where I work, and it has one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Also the wings and drinks are great. Took a few tries, but they have good things!

This place is always packed and they typically have good service. The food is good but the margaritas are terrible and I feel like that is a staple in a Mexican restaurant.

Great Mexican food, go early, it gets crowded.
Authentic food, I like the tamales and tacos. My wife gets shrimp tostados everytime. Cant go wrong with the Sangria. Glad they have the new location, a lot more seating. I don’t give many 5 stars, this is a gem in Carroll
