Shackie’s Seafood And Oysters Bar

This place is great and always has good check in deals! The past 2 times I’ve been been here I got the snowcrab. The first time they gave me king so I had it sent back and the 2^nd visit when I also ordered snow they sent out shrimp. It wasn’t a big deal and they were extremely nice about the mistake both times. Alexis was my server and she was quick to the table, super nice and she was who I noticed doing most of the work on the floor even with a manager present Small mistakes happen and their food/​customer service will keep me coming back. Also their chorros.

They’re having a special where if you order two pounds of any kind of seafood, you get another pound for free (but it has to be the same kind).
The food was pretty good. We got three pounds of the peel and eat shrimp and a pound of crawfish along with six of the daily oysters. We also used the Unilocal check in for free cajun fries. Tons of garlic, so be prepared for that. I suggest getting the potatoes and rice to go with your meal. You’ll likely have a lot left over. The oysters were nothing special and kind of small, but overall the experience was good.

Love the fresh crawfish. I asked for extra garlics, love. Service was great. Food was good. No line no line no line !!!

We had 1 lbs shrimps, oysters with peanuts, fries, fish and chips, baguettes with cheese and seafoods, and garic noodles with clams between the two of us. We will be back!

The combo choices is pretty good pricing, I’ve probably ordered it 3 – 4 times at this place. the biggest concern that I had was that they’ve always forget to include the potatoes/​sausages/​corn in my combo order, it happened two consecutive time already. I’m not going to commit to going back to the restaurant to get the stuff when I’m already at home. Word of advice, check your orders at the store.

Kevin and Katey hooked it up! They said this place was good, and they were absolutely right. I just happen to come by and see this place out of the corner of my eye. What a great find! The oysters, shrimp, Crawford, everything is off the hook. This is a place I would recommend to any of my friends don’t like seafood and oysters for sure. Absolutely brilliant! Thanks Shakies!!!

$ 36 (tax and tip not included) got me:
–2 pounds of shrimp (orig. $ 11ish/​lb) it’s rare that I find shrimp that’s not falling apart while still well seasoned in the Cajun sauce, so I was very happy about these ones!
–1 pound crawfish (orig. $ 12ish/​lb) Not the freshest but definitely clean
–Sausage, corn, and potatoes; I’m usually not a fan of these but all three tasted great in the sauce
Note: If you get this deal, there are options of what you want in your 3 pounds of seafood. They have to be the same sauce and same level of spiciness since they’re all in one bag when brought out to you. The seafoods individually are definitely on the pricier side compared to other Cajun restaurants I’ve had recently in the area. This place has other restaurants beat with their shrimp quality and sauce though.
It was Friday night, so oysters were $ 1 each. They weren’t very big or plump, but they were okay tasting. The plate was served with horseradish, cocktail sauce, Tabasco, and lemons.
Service is great and they check up on you consistently to make sure you don’t need anything else!

We had the garlic noodles, fish and chips (with cajun garlic fries) and shrimp tacos. Food was flavored well, sauce on the shrimp tacos was a tad bit spicy for me but still good, and it was generous portions. Went on a Sunday afternoon and got happy hour discounts (minus $ 2 for the shrimp tacos, well worth it). It was rather empty so it took a little while to get our food but at least it’s fresh! I’d go back again.

I went here with a friend back in May 2015 and just now realized I never wrote a review, so here goes…
First time at a Cajun seafood boil, so I will have to see how others are, but this place did not disappoint. We ordered a bowl of crab and shrimp, an order of fish and chips and oysters on the half shell. Yes, we pigged out!
Crab and shrimp bowl was awesome. I don’t remember ordering it super spicey, but I might have. It was just a tad too spicy, so I think I might go mild next time. It wasn’t bad, just got to me a little after a while. I would suggest starting out one notch under what you think you are used to on the spice level. We had the Cajun seasoning and it was amazing.
Fish & Chips — Thin spicey Cajun batter on the fish which kept the fish very light, and not weighed down by grease or extra batter. One of my favorite styles for fried fish now. If I remember correctly the fries were spicy too. I would come in just for the fish & chips!
Oysters — Fanny Bay — Gigantic, juicy, fresh and cucumber/​sushi like. I have not eaten a TON of oysters, but these were the best I’ve had by far. Also, I remember them being inexpensive. They brought another six to our table later thinking we ordered another round, and I told them that we did not, but stopped them and had them put them on the table anyway, since they were so good and so inexpensive.
I would definitely return here, but I’d like to try a couple other Cajun seafood boils first before returning so I have something to compare to.

I heard about the happy hour special here and thought it’d be fun to try out since I was craving oysters. The oysters aren’t on happy hour, but other appetizers were!
If you check in, you get a free basket of Cajun fries, not the fish balls with roe– although I did order that and it tasted okay. Not bad, but nothing special either. It wasn’t really crispy, more of just lightly chewy and the dipping sauce was OK.
We ordered the a dozen oysters (name started with an F) and it was pretty meaty! I love my oysters with a lot of meat hehe! Cajun fries were very thin and crispy. Coconut sea snails were very dense in coconut sauce (yummy!) and it was very good.
The service was a little slow, but they were very friendly and sweet. The prices here are not too bad and I’ll probably come back for the cheap happy hour appetizers!

A decent place for seafood but minor flaws bring it down.
I initially came here for oysters as it was the closest oyster place to where I live. I ultimately, ended up ordering the combo 1 with two pounds of crawfish and one pound of shrimp with their «Shakie’s» seasoning. Along with that, I ordered a dozen various oysters.
I found that their crawfish and shrimp were mediocre. It was flavored but the flavor was not very strong. I felt that it was a bit bland for my taste. Not only that but based on some of the crawfish and shrimp, their dryness and toughness makes me question the freshness of the food. Personally, I found the flavors of places such as boiling crab to be a better.
Another weird thing was even though I ordered the oysters first, they came out last. I originally ordered 12 Blue Point but they were out so they gave us a variety of their oysters. Again, I felt the quality of the oysters were lacking. We had some Blue Point, some Kuma’s, Kisshi. I have had experience with these oysters in other establishments and I felt that these Kumamotos and Kisshi were even smaller than they usually are. Not only that but the Kuma’s did not have their signature sweetness. Overall they all tested a bit metallic but no horrible.
Perhaps, my review is a bit harsh but I stand by the 3 stars. This place isn’t bad by any means but if given the choice, I most likely will not come back.

This place I used to go when it was called something else but now they are owed by a new owner, so I had to give it a shot.
It’s still as good as I remember it.
Kind of a small place but food is good if ur going strictly for the seafood like shrimp and crawfish the rest like fish and chips totally not worth getting.
Service is a bit off but they try to do the best they can.
Parking is available in the plaza for free. Which is always good :)
Prices are good though :)

Very nice service. The girl who waited on us told us to check in for their free roe fish balls which was pretty awesome of her for that. It was pretty good. She even warned us of their garlic sauce and spice levels and made sure we knew what we were ordering before placing an order so we will know if we liked it or it. Again, which was really nice of her. We love honest and humble service from people like that. The only thing that was expensive was their Kumamoto oysters, 6 of them for $ 16 was little steep. I also liked their Cajun fries.

i’ve been here about 8 times. the food is consistently awesome. They give you plenty of sauce and everything tastes fresh. I really hope they maintain their quality for a long time.

The food was pretty good. We ordered our shrimp to be Spicy and it was truly spicy! (Watery eyes). One of the things I loved about that place is that they peel the shrimp for you! I think that’d pretty awesome because places similar to shackies, you have to peel the shrimp. And sometimes that just takes longer that actually eating the food! Lol. But keep in mind, it is a higher price to get the shell peeled off.
Only issue I did have about this place, the customer service. I don’t know how many times I asked for more lime and salt and it took about 2 people and 20 minutes later to just get me lime and salt. The customer service needs working on. There were only one table aside from us that were there.

Came here yesterday for dinner with a group of friends. They were able accommodate a group of people pretty fast… There was no wait which was great because we were hungry! We ordered an oyster sampler, which was very good, but seemed pricey. Coconut snails. This was my first time trying them. They were okay. I probably wouldn’t order them again. We also got 2 different kind of French fries (truffle and Cajun) both were delicious! Highly recommend the fries. For the main course, we shared the 3lb special with shrimp, mussels, sausage and corn. Very good. And messy so wear your bib!

Oysters were so amazing and fresh, we couldn’t resist a second round. Shrimp Combo #1 was perfectly cooked and hot. The owner was there to greet us, gave us a quick run down of the menu and was so conversational and friendly.

Favorite place for shrimp great service and great food! Combo number one is where it’s at!

The only reason why I went here was because they had live crawfish. Then this place turned out to be in my top 5 favorite crawfish places. Their garlic fries are one of the best you can have. Craw fish sauce is very great. The only thing I would change is the sausages, They should start using different brand and start cutting them up a little thinner.

First time at a boiler eatery & it was awesome! Service was EXCEPTIONAL! I wasn’t familiar w/​the area so UnilocalED for a seafood restaurant & once again UnilocalERS came through & recommended a great place. We are definitely going back. I split the Combo#1 w/​my son & asked for mild spice —he’s a heat-​seeker so it was too mild for him. My mom ordered garlic noodle & shrimp/​no spice & LOVED it. Really healthy portions made the combo perfect to share.

I think this is gonna be my go to crawfish place now. We came here on a Sunday night and there was no wait! We ordered the combo #1(crawfish, shrimp, clam, corn, sausage, potato) and it was $ 32…somewhere around there. Their flavor (everything in it) was pretty good and their spice level is what I would expect from all crawfish places. Now their appetizers were the highlight of my meal. The fish balls omg, so good!!! The Cajun garlic fries was so crispy and so much garlic, I love it! I would come here and just get these two appetizers. Service was great, clean place and very nice decoration. I would come back here!

I was super stoked to try Shackies, but unfortunately it fell short of all the hype.
I ordered a water and my boyfriend ordered an ice tea; the water was tap water-​not a problem, i’ll just squeeze some lime into it… WRONG! there was something black floating in my water –_​-​. We asked for a replacement, but it never came out. I decided to drink my bf’s tea that didn’t even taste like tea.
Oysters weren’t fresh– i’m not sure if they just leave it on ice near the register, but it was barely cold– or maybe Shuck Oyster Bar really set my high standards on oysters.
After we finished the oysters and fried calamari, we waited for our fish tacos and mahi mahi. We waited about 25 minutes, and it was hard to get either two of waiters’ attention to ask for the status. Finally, the waiter asked what we were waiting for. He said, «i’ll go check on your food» and he came right out with our food. The food was cold, the steamed veggies didn’t even project any steam, the mahi mahi was over cooked, and the fish tacos were mediocre.
I felt bad leaving a bad tip, but I didn’t feel the service provided was exceptional at all. Sorry Shackies, hope all the best for you.

We initially came here cause I thought they had happy hour, but to our dismay, happy hour is only on the weekends, which I thought was really really odd. You would assume they would want happy hour to be weekday to lure customers in…
So we had to pay full price for apps, we got the truffle fries, which was really really good. It was really thin and crispy. One of the best fries I’ve had in a while.
I like that they pour out the shrimp into a bowl for you, it makes it alot easier to eat that way. I enjoyed the free fish balls you get for checking in. It was pretty good.
I wish their service was better. The employees weren’t paying attention to my bf and I because they were trying to cater to a larger party, and giving them A LOT of attention. We were waiting for 20 minutes trying to get someone’s attention so we could get the bill. They weren’t slammed with tables, there were only 3 tables. Ours, the larger table, and a 4 top. It was a little annoying cause I heard the owner tell the bigger table «we want to make sure your experience here is great» trying to fix their dish. Yet we were ignored…
We’ve been here few times back when it was called the seafood shack. Didn’t remember bad service before, but I hate being ignored.

I really enjoyed this place, and it’s a lot less hectic than other similar restaurants in the area. Went on a Sunday night right before dinner time and they weren’t busy at all and we were seated right away.
My girlfriend and I weren’t starving, so we shared a pound of shrimp, the garlic noodles, some oysters, and got the free roe balls with Unilocal check in.
Everything was on par with a all the other Cajun places, we really enjoyed it! The service was okay too. The free roe balls were awesome! The oysters were decent. Then I’m a sucker for garlic noodles anywhere.
If you’re looking for a Cajun place that isn’t as busy as boiling crab or others, check them out!

We came here for dinner this past Friday night. It was originally at that moment, very much to my boyfriend’s dismay but he gave in and I won :) I found this place here on Unilocal while we were in the area and I really wanted to know what all the hype was about… truth be told, I’ve never been to a shellfish boil type establishment so I honestly have no clue (hence, even more the reason we HAD to go here). I do however know what good food is, the quality and freshness of seafood is all about and stellar service standards.
We called ahead of time to make sure they had an open table or no wait. They had two 2 tops open. They do not take reservations, which is fine. We walked in and were immediately greeted by an extremely friendly young waitress. She brought us to the last table available and we sat down. She took our drink order (beers are cheap! $ 2 Stella drafts and $ 3 bottle domestics) then I told her I’ve never had this type of food experience before. She was extremely helpful and informative and gave us a moment to go over the menu. She also put bibs on us, kinda silly but definitely needed.
She came back and we decided on the #2 its $ 59.99 and well worth it. It was 1lb of each of the following, King crab legs, snow crab legs and a whole lobster, however, she let us substitute the whole lobster for a pound of huge ass head on shrimps. It also came with sausage, corn and potatoes. To be real, none of the seafood I just discussed was a pound. I want to say all of the 3 varieties I just stated were well over a pound each… Gosh, the shrimps seemed like two pounds!
We ordered it shackie style which is Cajun, lemon pepper and some garlic butter concoction. You have the option to choose your own preference of heat (or lack there of) we opted for spicy. The food came out it was amazing! Super messy but we had a blast laughing and enjoying our meal. The heat was spot on, the garlic was just right and the beers were cold.
All in all, it was perfect. We would come back for sure. Thank you!!!

Great Oyster selections compared to other crab/​crawfish places & the oysters were on the cheaper side too.
Oysters: Fresh, tasty, & options. 1 dozen (sampler) $ 27 so $ 2.25 per oyster. A lot of the time, oysters would run up to $ 3.
Combo #1: You have the options for 3 pounds of: crawfish, mussels, clams OR shrimp. We got the mussels, clams and shrimp. Good flavor, the garlic wasn’t overwhelming & it want swimming in oil. The seafood wasn’t swimming in the sauce, but it was still pretty good.
Spicy: We first tried the «Spicy» but it wasn’t spicy enough & the girls there were happy enough to just take the bag back (after they dumped it out into the bowl) to add some more spice into it.
Fish balls: We got a free side order of the fish balls with a Unilocal check in, and they actually came to our table and informed us of the deal! so they weren’t shady on that part at all. whoot whoot.
1.5L beer tower: They currently only have Stella on draft, i’m not sure if they would’ve given us the tower with any of the other beers. It roughly filled 4 cups, maybe a little more & as long as you kept drinking at a pace the beer stayed cold.

First time here i wasn’t so impressed. It was a weekday and very slow. My group of 6 came in and we all had a bad experience (slow service /​wrong things ordered/​we were even charged for the wrong amount of bottles we ordered, it was fixed after we pointed out.)
Second time back with my boyfriend, they have changed my mind. The food came out at a reasnable time. Everything tastes good (like always) except for I wouldnt order the hotwings with nuoc mam (fish sauce). But their oysters were fresh and on point. service was quick and efficient. Our waiter anf waitress was attentive.
Would have given them a five-​star but because of my first very bad impression, 4-​star will do. When i come back again and they give me the same service they did today, i will change that 4 to 5.

I loved this place. Loved! I found via… Unilocal of course. I was looking for a restaurant in Westminster specifically to meet a friend. If I’m ever in the area again, I’ll definitely go back. It’s the same concept as the Boiling Crab. Except minus the 3 hour wait. When I called to make a reservation, the guy laughed and told me I would need one. I was skeptical but when I arrived at 7pm I understood. We were the only people in the place. I don’t understand why though, the food is fantastic!
Oysters — They have a variety of oysters. Check their board for their specials. I’m blanking on the name of the oysters we got but it was dozen for $ 17. They were great. Extremely fresh.
1 lb shrimp — for $ 9.99 it was a steal. I got min head & shell on, shackie sauce. Seriously some of the best shrimp I’ve ever had.
Fried calamari — AMAZING. I’m not sure if it was fresh or frozen but it was seasoned & cooked perfectly.
Our entire party enjoyed their meal… except for one person… because their meal never came. Our waiter forgot to put in an order. Luckily I still got my meal:-)

I get random cravings for garlic butter about 5x a month. Being committed to Claws for so many years, I decided to try Shackie’s after an attempted root canal. Shackie’s is a very small restaurant. Like all crawfish houses, Shackie’s hosts a sea/​pirate theme inside complete with wooden columns separating a higher dining area from the floor seats.
Mister and I usually will get the 3lb deal in mild garlic butter. The crawfish is BIG and fresh! Bigger than other crawfish places I’ve been to in California. The shrimp is shrimp. I’m not always a huge fan of shrimp when I’ve got the option of crawfish. The clam variety offered at Shackie’s is amazing. The owners here do not seem to spare any expense in getting quality seafood. Their clams are fat, juicy, and succulent. I haven’t run into any sandy clams yet, which I truly appreciate.
More recently, I had the opportunity to try Shackie’s cajun seafood baguette. This was so yummy! Seafood, mixed in mayo, cheese, slapped on a warmed baguette, then broiled. I really loved this dish, however, it did make me full and distracted from my shared 3lbs of seafood in garlic butter.
Staff at Shackie’s is really nice. They all seem to get along and are really enthusiastic when taking our orders or refilling drinks. Great atmosphere for a small group of friends. The wait? Usually non existent because they’re kind of off the beaten path of Beach Blvd. Whoo hoo! Let the head sucking begin!

Me and one other person came in on a Tuesday night to pick up our placed orders. Surprisingly, they had many groups eating in on a weekday at 9pm. We walked over to the register and our food was already ready sitting on the counter for us. Picking up was fast.
The food was good. The crawfish tasted much better than the first time I have eaten here. The flavoring was also really good. It wasn’t as greasy as other places. This place doesn’t have tons of large garlic chunks compared to other crawfish houses. Still you can taste plenty of garlic. We also ordered corn and sausages to go with our crawfish. The corn was extra sweet. It was very good. The sausage was okay. It lacked compared to other crawfish houses. They were thinly sliced and were more rubbery. Not terrible though. It was weird that they put it in our garlic noodles instead of the crawfish bag, but whatever. The garlic noodles also didn’t contain tons of garlic chunks. It had plenty of chives in there, which I am not a fan of, but the dish overall was good. We enjoyed it.
I think our total was about $ 50. A little pricey but not bad. The service was alright. They originally ignored us but became friendly after I started conversating with them. The inside is a good price. I like that they have many options for oysters, unlike other crawfish houses. They had like about 5 different options. I’m a huge oyster fan and will probably come back for those. I’m glad my perception of them has changed for the better.
