Yihsiung Huang, DDS

I must say Dr Huang is one of the best Dentist I have ever met. He is very gentle, and caring. His hands are rock solid and I dont get any pain in any procedure. I am very fortunate to be referred to him by another friend of mine. He guides on proper dental care better than anyone else has even done to me.
To Ellie — I feel bad for your experience but I must also add that we have a culture of too many xrays and too many procedures by modern Dentists. It is almost like a business. I never went to a dentist till I was 35 year old and when I went first time, the dentist told me that it seems I have not done cleaning done in last 6 months — when I never been to dentist. The point is that if you take your car to a Garage, they will find many issues wrong with it and that you need to fix it but a good mechanic will point only the must haves and not the nice to haves. The point is Dr Huang is more of a traditional dentist and has very good grasp of needs. He doesnt even use laughing gas (because of its side effects) instead he is so gentle that many times it is not even needed. There is something to be said about that. Ellie you have been going to him since you were a Kid and a one incident made you give him a 1 star? Maybe you should have gone back to him and ask why the difference in opinion and he could have explained himself. Anyway I really like him and making my next appointment with him.

It is extremely unfortunate that I have to write this review, because Dr. Huang is a nice guy and has been our family dentist for as long as I can remember. I have been going to him bi-​annually since I was a kid, even after leaving my hometown for college and other schooling. However, in at least the past 8 years, I cannot remember getting any dental xrays from him. He made no mention that these were necessary, or that they were standard of care in dentistry. During my last visit home, he told me I had developed three small cavities (that he could see while cleaning my teeth), but that they were not urgent. He did not have time to fill them during this appointment, so he told me to find a dentist where I live now and get them filled. His exact words were, «Don’t worry, even if you come back here in 6 months to get them filled, they still won’t become so large that you’ll need a root canal or anything.»
I found a well-​regarded dentist in my area, got xrays, and was shocked to hear that I had 8 cavities that required filling, 2 that were very large, and then 7 other small areas that were starting to become cavities. These were all in between the teeth (from not flossing) and could not have been seen without xrays — hence the importance of dental xrays. They drilled into the largest of my 8 cavities and told me that the cavity had invaded into the pulp and that I needed a root canal (this was about 4 months after my visit with Dr. Huang, after he assured me that even in 6 months I wouldn’t need a root canal). As of right now, I still have three cavities that require filling, one of which is very large and may require another root canal. When all this is done, I will have paid over $ 2000 out of pocket for dental work that should never be required in someone who regularly goes to the dentist.
For the record, I did get a second opinion on my dental xrays, just to be sure that my new dentist in Boston wasn’t trying to make a quick buck. He confirmed that I do indeed have many cavities that require filling, and did need to have that root canal.
