I went there to get a new license. OMG so fast. So fast. I’m still spinning.
However, they misspelled my name and I didn’t notice it until I was home. Had to go back and do it all over again. #facepalm But it was even faster the second time.
Lessons: Go there. It’s fast! ANNNNNND proofread your license before you leave.

Pretty good. Its a small town. Close to the city. I’m surprised they are not over run with business. They are not run by the state but only charge a $ 3 fee per item. I tried the. Title place, but was told to go farther than this was because that place didn’t have what I needed, and they charges $ 18 per item. All I had to do was change my address. That meant a lot of items.

Quick compared to the Metairie DMV! I live in Metairie and decided on making a 20 min drive to the Westwego DMV to avoid spending hours waiting. Westwego DMV opens at 8am. I came here on a rainy Wednesday morning and arrived at 9:30am (since I cannot drag myself out of bed before 8…). Like some of the other reviewers have commented, there is limited parking and the DMV is located in the back of the building.
Get a ticket number as soon as you walk in, and there is a waiting room down the hallway where you sit and wait for your number group to be called through the speaker. By the time I got sat down, I realized there were at least 50 people ahead of me. However, the line moves relatively fast. I waited an hour and a half until my group got called…
There are four desks available. I only needed my license renewed and the whole process took less than five minutes, including getting my picture taken!
My experience was nice and I had no complaints with the DMV itself. When I come back next time, I will definitely arrive a little before 8am to avoid waiting over an hour.

For a DMV… not bad! I went to the Harvey location first and it was a chaotic mess! I hopped onto the expressway at 3:20 and still made it in time to the Westwego location. It’s pretty organized– you take a number and wait in the hall and then they will call up a group of numbers and you wait and then they will call your number to a window. It’s a little hard to find parking and there is definitely no neon sign letting you know you have found the place. Make sure you don’t park in any spot with a sign because they WILL tow you I was told!

I I found that the Westwego DMV was probably the quickest experience I have ever had dealing with a DMV. I had to transfer my Minnesota driver’s license over to a Louisiana one after I had gotten out of the military.
Here’s a hint that people seem to keep complaining about, even though it’s their own fault… The entrance for the DMV is on the BACK of the building! If people could just drive (or walk) around the building they would see the clearly posted signs that say DMV. Don’t blame a building for your own laziness.
I was there just before they opened, small line out the door. I took a number as soon as we filed in, (again, common sense here, people) and sat in the waiting room. Also, make sure you bring all of your paperwork that you need to for whatever reason you are there for. Makes things go much faster.
I was literally out the door with my new Louisiana license in hand in under 25 minutes. Quick and efficient staff kept the line moving as well. Would use again if I need to.
Summary for a good experience: Entrance is at BACK of building, TAKE a number, bring ALL of your paperwork. Problems solved and complaints addressed.

The DMV is the great equalizer.
Are you a millionaire that needs to transfer your license from Beverly Hills to Nola? Are you an elderly widow who needs to update her registration on her 1986 Cadillac? Are you a recently paroled three time felon who needs an ID for a job? Regardless of who you might be, we all have to visit the DMV at one point or another.
The Wego DMV is usually less crowded than the nearby Harvey branch. It is also a full service DMV which means you can actually do a driving test unlike the smaller satellite locations. That was a big help to me a few years back when I needed a motorcycle endorsement. On that lovely day the DMV was packed. Despite having to wait well over an hour for a test, I saddled up my bike and did the mandatory three figure eights in the parking lot. After that I was completely legal and ready to ride.
I highly recommend this location now that the Algiers DMV is closed. Ignore Harvey and the fancy new West End location and check out beautiful downtown Westwego.
Note: This is also the same building for traffic tickets issued in Westwego.

Whenever I have to get my license renewed, I always go here. There is never really a line and I am always in and out in no time. People have always been friendly and it seems a lot more relaxed than your average DMV. The last time I renewed my license, I was in and out in 30 minutes. Boom! I would never go anywhere else.

How the hell did this place get any positive feedback? The only reason I came here was to avoid that shithole excuse of a government facility in Harvey.
This place is a disorganized mess. The lines are ridiculous and the people working there our soulless beasts. The people that were in line with me were a mixture of rednecks, crackheads, thugs, and dirty old rapist. And the place is surround by the infamous racist ultra-​racist Westwego PD. I would tell you all to avoid this place, but let’s face it… there aren’t any better options in the city.

Staff as mean as a momma alligator protecting her young but extremely efficient. I’ll take it! I was in and out in 20 minutes with about 8 people in the waiting area. I even had a new ID printed in this 20 minutes time. Typically being mean detracts points but I’ll take being treated militantly for a 20 minute wait time at a DMV :)

Short lines and REALLY nice and helpful people. Need I say more? Don’t go to the DMV on Airline and wait 3 hours just to be helped — go here. It’s part of Westwego City Hall (same building and you actually wait in the council chambers for your turn). Went here at 8:15am to get my daughter’s driver’s permit. Left at 8:45am with permit in hand, including her taking the test. Please keep this secret between us — Unilocalers only; everybody else can wait at the Airline place, so we don’t clog this gem up.

Oh. My. God.
I delayed changing my address on my license and registration for a while after moving from Metairie to Marrero. This was mostly because I didn’t feel like taking an entire morning or afternoon to wait in line to do so. My boyfriend suggested the Westwego OMV, since he has never had to wait very long.
So, I pick a morning when it is pouring rain. Having never been to this location before (which, by the way, is also the City Hall) I wasn’t sure exactly which door I was supposed to use. I avoided the one that said do not enter, and proceeded to take the door that entered into the OMV waiting room. There were some people sitting on chairs, and some in a long line. Silly me, I assumed that the line was the first place to go… presumably to take a number, or something. After waiting in line for about 5 minutes, the gentleman in front of me asked «do you have a number?» Of course, I said no, and he proceeded to direct me to the ticket machine located in the room where the OMV workers do their job — separate from the waiting room. Some instructions on where to go upon entering the building would be WONDERFUL.
Anyway, I wait my turn, re-​enter the line when my group of numbers is called, and finally get to sit down and change my address. The OMV worker does the license, but then informs me that their printer is broken so they can’t change/​print the registration card. She said it could be fixed in a few minutes, so I was welcome to wait. I waited about 10 – 20 minutes, then decided that was long enough, and asked if it was fixed. She said no. I then asked if they would be able to print it out and mail it to me, upon fixing the problem — again, no. I had to come back to do it all over again.
So, now there are 2 useful suggestions: Directions on how to enter the queue upon arriving at the OMV (i.e. bypass the line to take a number and then go and sit in the waiting room)… and if an important piece of machinery isn’t working, post a sign so people don’t wait around for nothing.
Perhaps the best part was when I called the Baton Rouge number the following day, so that they could call the Westwego office, see if their printer was functioning, so that I knew before visiting them and wasting another couple of hours. They called Wego, but were told that the printer was working just fine the previous day. Argh!!! I’m still not sure exactly who was lying. I reluctantly went back before they closed that evening and got the registration fixed — in and out in about 20 minutes, at least.
Never again. I’ll drive to Hahnville if I have to. Sheesh. I wasn’t a fan of the Indiana BMV, but at least they updated all of their offices, improved their wait times, and even allow you to schedule an appointment online now…

Oh, Westwego OMV, how much I love you. We only spent an hour together, but it was a rich and meaningful time.
Your wait times were reasonable. Your systems, a little antiquated. Your décor, dingy. Your chairs, wide enough for my fat self.
Oh, Westwego OMV, you are worth the 20 minute drive out of New Orleans. I will never see the Metairie OMV again. I swear.
