The food was absolutely bland. Everything needed salt. The fried clam plate and oysters, greasy — oily. The twin lobster was undercooked and the clam chowder was warm. Should have took the extra time to get to Tony’s Clam Shop by the beach. The waitress helped herself with a nice tip too without telling us, I didn’t realize that I had double tipped her until I got home and did the math. She gave me the check with it upside down and the total written on the top and stood next to me until I handed her my card. My fault for not flipping it over, but very dishonest for not telling me either. Ended up spending $ 150 for 4 people at this place and it was totally not worth it. First time + last time, and a great way to keep repeat customers from coming back.

I highly recommend driving by this restaurant and not stopping! I am appalled at the meals we were served. We were not expecting extravagance, just a tasty meal in a comfortable place. We experienced neither. There were three of us dining. Two of our meals were down right awful ! The third was passable, but certainly nothing to recommend. The salmon special was a previously frozen square along the lines of what you would find in the grocery store frozen prepared boxed meals section. It was so heavily salted that it didnt even taste like fish. The swordfish special was the same. Both were flat, thin, salty and not fit to be served in any restaurant. The accompanying mashed potatoes were boxed flakes with too much water added and were cold and tasteless. The fried clams were below average. My dinner companion summed up his fried clams by saying«Well I guess they arent awful .Im not saying good, just not awful.» The only things saving this review from one star were the chowder and salads. They were ok. You could grab a quick chowder here and be fine. The servers were busy but nice. After leaving I checked with three different friends and family members who I know have eaten here previously. I heard from all three that they used to love it here, but recently had found the food to be a huge disappointment.

I just move into the neighborhood and gave this place a try. I was excited to see fish cake and mac n Cheese on the menu. The food was great and you can’t beat the price. Highly recommend trying the place out.

Very small parking area. Was there another lot and I missed it? Anyways we had to wait for a spot to open up. When we finally got a spot, we found the restaurant ¼ full. The bar area which is another room via the«restroom» sign, had about the same number of people. The waitress was very nice and friendly. Asides from that, there was really nothing special about the food. Not bad, not life changing. Had the fried scallops and clans, broiled scallops, a very small, good but overpriced lobster roll, and the sirloin tips I think it was called. Again not bad, but nothing great.

Ate there 3 times. The first time the fried clams were yummy. The second time they were okay but the portion was small. The 3rd time i took my family and 2 out of 3 had lousy meals. It is pretty hard to screw up a salad. Apparently they now weigh their clams which are heavy with water hence the small portions. Drive the extra distance to the hingham lobster pound and you will smile!

I am a born and raised New Englander who’s been eating seafood since birth. Today I had a craving for fried clams and finally went to Kelly’s. The atmosphere is simple and wooden… kind of the style you would expect to find at a boat landing. Our waitress was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I ordered the clam chowder to start. It was creamy and buttery with large amounts of clams. Not overly thickened or heavy on the potatoes, as many places think chowder should be. My husband had the French onion soup and said it was made properly(as this soup should«age» a day to blend the flavors) and there was crunch to the croûton. The fried clams were fabulous and the order was huge. The frying oil was super clean which made the batter light and tempura style. It came with potato and a side veggie but I was full before I could get to them. My husband had the steak tips with fries and a side veggie. He said they were a classic New England marinade and cooked to a perfect temperature(he requested med rare)…and he’s über picky about marinades as he makes his own. Our experience was fabulous and plan to frequent this«dive» often! Next plan… $ 14.95 lobstah dinnah!

Good seafood great prices, nice staff. I love the little healthy menu great for watching my weight ! 6 oz of broiled cod with 2 veggie for 8.95! The fried clams are the best if not on diet!

Whatever you do DONOTEATHERE! We came here by accident thinking it was Kelly’s Roast beef. The fried clams taste like they were fried in two– year old oil. Fries have no taste and probably frozen. The atmosphere is dank. The silverware is dirty(as in sticky). Yuck yuck and triple YUCK!

Good service, great prices. Oysters for $ 1.25 each is cheaper than the grocery store. The only gripe we had at our table was the seafood stuffing, too sweet, maybe due to the red bell peppers and carrots. Other than that, everything was good.

This place is pretty good, I felt like an old time going though with all the early bird special grandparents there. There NE clam chowder was excellent, but there fried sampler was just ok. The fish was over fried for my liking and I seemed to get more breading than fish in a lot of the pieces. I would however go back just for the chowder, or how they say it in Boston, CHOWDAAAA. The restaurant is dark and kinda depressing.

Stopped at Kelly’s Landing on a Friday afternoon for some fried oysters. Hadn’t been there before. The oysters were luscious, perfectly cooked with a thin batter, good fries, too. A fun waitress, fast service, and great price. The atmosphere was authentic local friendly. Is the décor«dated?» Fortunately, it was and it’s a classic place for enjoying top notch New England seafood. This place is gawd awful! After driving by this place a zillion times and having a hankering for some clam strips now that Caswells closed I was desperate to find a seafood restaurant in weymouth so I checked Unilocal for suggestions and was so excited to try Kelly’s landing because of all the great reviews. Well what a huge let down! When we first went in we were taken back by the extremely old décor it’s right up there with Denlys gardens. Then the smell… wow did someone spill a couple gallons of bleach in there or what? Overpowering odor of sometype of cleaning fluid. We ordered onion rings and we were pleasantly surprised how much we got for 3 bucks and those were really good. Then I ordered clam strips and my bf ordered steak. Omg the clam strips seriously tasted like something out of the freezer section at the grocery store and they tasted baked! They were soooo gross. Hands down the worst clamstrips I have ever eaten. I had a piece of my boyfriends steak, yuck. It was worse than the clams. He actually liked the steak until the next day when he was sitting on the thrown all day. I would never, ever go back to Kelly’s Landing. EVER.

After reading plenty of reviews on Unilocal I expected a outdated restaurant with excellent food at a cheap price. Unfortunately I was let down. The place was outdated and reminded me of a prison since their wasn’t a single window in the entire restaurant. The food was gross, the shrimp taste like they were from the freezer aisle at the grocery store and I am pretty sure the green beans I ordered as a side were from a can. The waitstaff was subpar, our waitress didn’t even know what was on tap! All in all the place was outdated, the waitstaff didn’t know what they were doing, and the food was gross. I will be sure to never go back again!

The worst steak I have had in a while, the regular cook must have had a day off. Steamers full of sand. Left somewhat hungry. Will give’em one more shot.

I really like this place. Its right across the street from me and its way better than fore river grill. It’s basically the definition of a dive bar, but with really good food and a large menu. I did sit on a barstool that was about to break, I used it as a measure of how drunk i was.

Kelly’s Landing is an unqualified 5-star winner. It has to be one of the best kept secrets on the South Shore. Great food at unbeatable prices, with an atmosphere that is warm, inviting makes want to say out loud«Please never change!» You have been to places like this before, but there are not many left. The nautical themed décor and knotty-wood paneling is classic, and irreplaceable. The food is really top notch, the drinks are strong(full bar, decent beer and wine choices) and the service is great. But back to the food — the menu is straightforward but fairly extensive with both fried and chef-prepared grilled or baked choices. There is a long list of nightly specials including various lobster options(steamed, broiled, baked stuffed) as well as steamers, mussels in wine sauce, and various fresh fish options(blackened mahi-mahi and grilled salmon were options last night). We went there expecting more fried food and were in the mood for that, but I am confident the chef-prepared options would be just as good. I ordered clam chowder to start, which was excellent and FULL of large pieces of clams, as well the fried clams and scallops; my wife got the full fried clams(e.g., just clams, fresh whole-belly, not strips) and my daughter order the fish-and-chips from the children’s menu(which was large enough for an adult) and my son got a cheeseburger(also adult-sized but kid-priced.) I am not usually a huge fan of fried food, but I am when it is done properly. The classic New England Clam Shack is a regional and national treasure, but it is not friend food. 98% of places ruin it, with heavy breading and overcooking. It ends up being just fried bleck. But there is the other 2% which understands the delicate art of friend seafood, and Kelly’s is one of those places. Clearly it competes the places at Wollaston Beach, such as Tony’s and The Clam Box, but I would give the advantage to Kelly’s for having better food at better prices — plus a more complete menu with steaks and other choices beyond seafood. Plus, while I have hit all the places on Quincy Shore and the Hingham Lobster Pound, and every clam shack on South Shore, plus many others on South Coast and down into Rhode Island. Very few places understand(and deliver on it) with the light breading and delicate frying that Kelly’s does. That is the art, don’t over bread of overcook. The breading should be crisp and falling off, not just a blob of dough. You get the former at Kelly’s. Also, they offer fishcakes and beans, and a few other uniquely New England dishes. This you won’t find at most other clam shacks. Plus fresh seafood including raw options. This is what makes it so great — the quality you’d expect a place like Skipjack’s but at roadside clam shack prices. The place is split between a full bar and a family-friendly restaurant, divided by a set of doors so there is no cross over between the two. Our waitress looked like Anjelica Huston(when she was still skinny) and all the staff was friendly and helpful. For singles, families, guy’s night out, the place is a great choice. It has obviously been there a while, and I hope it sticks around, because the place is a treasure.

This place is O-L-D… I think that’s why people like it as well as their decent prices. Nostalgic dining at it’s best here at Kelly’s Landing. I don’t think they changed a thing since the place first opened as everything looks 70 years old(this may in fact be one of their claims to fame). I have to admit the place was buzzing with happy patrons, they really do have a loyal following it seems. I ordered take-out with my cousin. We gorged on fried haddock, the fisherman’s platter and quahogs. I’d say it’s typical pub food and they are very generous on portions as I couldn’t finish my meal. I might try them again if I’m in the area.
