I love this place for Chinese. I think it has the best Chinese in the area and the prices are reasonable. It’s not a restaurant where you sit in its more I take out place. What else I really like about it is that it’s all family run. Even the kids help their parents out. It’s really nice to see a family working together. I feel good after I go there because I know they all work so hard and I like to give them my business.

Stopped for the first time after a long day which included taking a family member to the hospital. Got there at 10:10pm, and didn’t realize they were closed until I walked up to the door. But the owner ran over and opened the door. I said«That’s ok, I didn’t know you were closed», but he said they were open, and took my order. They were all very friendly, and even asked me if I had a long day. I must have looked tired. Anyway, the food was delicious. I love Chinese food, and I tend to judge Chinese restaurants not only by the main dish, but by things like good broccoli, good fried rice, and good egg rolls. And they were all great! Not to mention the big portions. The friendly family owners were just the icing on the cake. I will definitely be back. Edit: went back a couple more times in the following week, all good! It’s my new go-to place, even though it’s a bit out of the way. It’s worth it.

If I could give them 4 ½ stars, I would, but since that’s not an option — they get five since we like them! They are always very polite, super quick, and food is good and consistent. I wouldn’t say it’s «knock your socks off» food, but it’s always good, and that doesn’t vary. We have both picked up the food, and had it delivered. As others have mentioned, it’s a whole family affair. The kids are cute and help out. I once even had a kid go with on a delivery order for us and came up to the door with(I think) her dad! We live pretty close, but delivery has never taken more than 25 or so minutes from time of ordering. We usually get two or three large dishes to share, and that’s more than enough food for my husband and I to have several meals with. They typically throw in a few egg rolls for free too! We order fairly regularly, and don’t have any reason to stop.

Ordered sechuan chicken, what a mistake. Rubbery, did not look or taste like chicken. greasy, no flavor and not hot/spicy. Also got chicken fried rice which was old, tasteless, and bland. The only good thing was the white rice. Will not be returning.

I love this place. An absolute gem in Wheaton. Their food is consistently very good. I’ve never had a bad dish there. But one of my favorite parts is going to get the food. The entire family is there(after school), helping out around the restaurant. It’s awesome. Opt for carry out or delivery. Only two tables and it can get very crowded at certain times of day with people waiting in line to pick up their orders. Trust me. Check it out.

This place is a hidden GEM! Best prices and amazing food! I’m pretty picky when it comes to Chinese food, but this place is great. A must try is their pan fried dumplings, these are handmade not the ones you can buy frozen at Jewel, and have great taste. Their pork friend rice may be my favorite fried rice dish. Their traditional Chinese food is very good and their more Americanized dishes are good too. Best Chinese food under $ 30 for 2 in Chicago

Let me start out with we are in here probably 2 times a week. The service is awesome. Sometimes you can’t understand them on the phone but they understand you just fine and food always comes out right. We have been trying to find something that we don’t like as if its a challenge. But we just can’t. They have an enormous menu. Back to the service, it is family owned and operated yes the kids help out there. They are always polite and everything is my friend. They remember us and always add in the extras that we like. Their Orange Chicken is awesome. Oh and if your a value oriented diner this place is for you. You get two meals out of one of their combinations.

I had a great experience with the China star in Wheaton illinois. My only problem is that they were not clear about the amount of food. There was way too much. Also I was not able to substitute dumplings for crab rangoons which made me sad. Otherwise delicious and nice people.

This place is amazing. Yes, I agree the outside or inside doesn’t look like much but the food is incredible and they are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. My family and I have been living in the Wheaton area for 6 years and we have NEVER gone anywhere else for Chinese food! If you look past the look of this place, I promise you will not be disappointed… we have basically had everything on the menu!

Food’s is generally Ok. However tonight Mongolian Beef was hideous. About 90% of the dish was sautéed onions and the rest beef. Onions just overpowered flavor. I had to throw it away. It was uneatable. Come on. You can do better than this

I love their fried dumplings, but everything else hasn’t quite met my expectations. In all fairness I previously went to a particular Chinese restaurant for 14 years before I moved, so I’m a little biased. Prices are good though. My husband likes their General Tso’s and their fried rice isn’t too bad, so I’m willing to keep trying new things at China Star.

The food here is very good, and it is reasonably priced! I had heard good things about this place. However, when I ordered food it took an hour and a half for it to arrive and it was cold. If their delivery was more reliable I would have given it 4 stars.

Dependable, tasty take-out standard Cantonese food, right in the neighborhood! I call ahead on my way home. Friendly folks, too.

Fast food quality, slow service. They say 10 minutes every time I call ahead but when I arrive it’s another 10 minutes. Take your time getting there

Good example of «don’t judge a book by its cover.» This is small and somewhat run down little restaurant on busy Roosevelt Road in Wheaton. I suggest you carry out since they only have two tables and it’s pretty crowded in the main room with supplies and a bunch of other random stuff that looks like it needs a home some place else. That said, this is a fantastic option for Americanized Chinese food in the Western burbs. Large portions and the quality is above what I’ve found elsewhere. They use all white meat chicken(I dissected a couple of pieces, yep I did too) and they aren’t stingy with the other ingredients. The combo fried rice was fresh tasting and and sported large pieces of chicken and shrimp, etc. I also tried the Spring rolls. The orange chicken my daughter had some of the largest and juciest pieces of chicken I’ve ever seen in this dish(hate this dish by the way, who thought up this bizzaro concotion of flavors?!) The spring rolls were good but I’ve had better yet still for the price and freshness, I give them a thumbs up. This is a family run place so cherish it for what it is. Yes, children of the owners were there but I found it endearing. Bottom line, place could use a good clearing out and cleaning but the food was an incredible value, was hot and fresh and did I say huge portions. And, Dan the hot dog man loves it too so you can’t wrong!

You gotta love a Chinese joint where you’re called«my friend.» You are greeted with«What can I get for you, my friend?» and when leaving you hear«thank you my friend, have a nice day.» China Star, you are indeed my friend. Especially when I’m hungover. I don’t know what it is about Chinese food, but it is my instant hangover cure. Seriously. I’ve eaten everything under the sun sworn to «cure» a hangover to no avail. Enter China Star. All I need is an order of their chicken fried rice and an hour later, I’m golden. But, I do love this place no matter how I’m feeling. This isn’t a fancy sit-down-and-eat place. They do have a few tables but one of them seems to serve as a «desk» for the owners’ young children, who are adorable by the way. Sometimes they will even assist customers, grabbing a can of pop or extra sauces. Speaking of which, if you love fiery flavor, ask them for a side of the hot pepper oil. Seriously. That stuff is incredible, and a little bit goes a long way. One of my favorite dishes here is the Pepper Tomato Chicken(or maybe it’s Tomato Pepper Chicken– I tend to be dyslexic at times). It’s exactly like Beef Pepper Steak at most Chinese joints, only with chicken. As Dan B. mentioned, the steamed dumplings are quite fantastic. The sauce served with them really brings out the flavor of the meat inside. Another favorite are the fried scallops(I’m not sure if they still have them or not– I didn’t order any on my last visit). They also have a few sushi items on their menu, however I haven’t given those a try and most likely won’t, as I’m particular about my sushi. The best part about China Star is the food portions are enormous, and it’s cheap. They will charge you a small fee though if you use a credit/debit card for purchases under $ 10, or thereabouts. I no longer live in the immediate area, so I don’t get to enjoy China Star as much as I’d like. I’ve tried multiple Chinese food restaurants in the area, and nothing compares to China Star. Hands down, it’s the best Chinese Food in Wheaton.

Great neighborhood Chinese restaurant! The portions are generous and the pricing is great. When you pick up your order you are handed a free can of coke — the number of cokes seems to vary… I think it may be for every $ 10 you spend? This place is run by a great friendly hardworking family. Occasionally you may see the son helping at the register or answering phones and the little girl coloring in a corner with a grandmother. I am a big fan of the pork fried rice. The box comes FULL of meat and packed, overflowing as soon as it is opened. *Warning Mom, there are peas in the fried rice! The Crab Rangoon has a super sweet filling. The steamed dumplings have a sausage-like filling.

The owners of this restaurant are so, so friendly, and there are always a few adorable children hanging out watching tv, doing homework, and(once) riding a tricycle around the waiting area. They do have a couple of tables, but it’s primarily a takeout place. My two qualms: I’ve noticed that their shrimp is not usually clean(you know what I’m talking about here, right?), so I’ve stopped ordering it. Also, with some of the breaded and fried chicken dishes like sesame or general’s, there is too much crusty breading and not enough meat. However, the chicken in the sweet and sour chicken always seems fresh and delicious, so I’m not sure what’s up with that. I don’t know enough about the preparation to know if these dishes call for different types of chicken. Their fried rice is great, especially veggie. My son loves their bean curd(tofu) and veggies, and we like their noddles a lot too. Potstickers are decent, crab rangoon is okay but not the best. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. Whoever answers the phone can always understand me on the first try, a nice bonus. We go there a lot and they often throw a free soda or egg role into our bag. Also, how can you not adore the lady who calls customers«my friend»?
