Mr. Bashian is the Past President of the Westchester County Bar Association, has served on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association’s Trusts and Estates Sections as Vice-​Chair of its Estate Litigation Committee and on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association’s Elder Law Section as Vice-​Chair of its Litigation Committee.

James L. Hyer, Esq — Partner

Mr. Hyer is a member of the Board of Directors of the Westchester County Bar Association and a member of the House of Delegates for the New York State Bar Association, has published many scholarly articles on legal issues and speaks regularly on legal topics. Mr. Hyer has received honors including the Westchester Bar Association Leadership Award.

I have known James L. Hyer since 2010 when I met him at a legal seminar on the fundamentals of estate planning which he was providing to the community at no cost. After the seminar, I spoke with James further and decided that he would be a good attorney to use for my own estate planning. During my initial consultation with James, he went through a detailed review of my situation and needs as a single, female senior. My goal was to make certain that my affairs will handled properly not only after I die but also beforehand in the event (hopefully not) that I get dementia. Due to the expert legal assistance provided by James, my Last Will and Testament and other legal documents are in place and I am at peace knowing that all the necessary bases are properly covered. Since then, I have very satisfactorily used James for other legal matters and will continue to use James and his firm Bashian & Farber, LLP, for all of my future legal needs. I highly recommend both.

We watched the latter of the two namesake partners in the performance that must have been the crowning achievement of his career, in his best Lee Atwater imitation. His wife, a petty local politician and real estate agent, was running for reelection to our HOA BOD (can never have enough opportunities to interfere in other people’s lives). A very nice woman, a nurse, was also running for the BOD after having disagreements regarding interpretation of our HOA agreement. This attorney, now in semi-​retirement, stood up at the beginning of the meeting and denigrated this woman in an extremely demeaning and insulting way. He went on for seven or eight minutes, and when the woman tried to interrupt, the property management representative, obviously in collusion with the incumbent board that hired his firm, did not allow her to speak. Reduced to near tears, she did not respond any further. An absolutely masterful demonstration of a big man in a small pond. Says a lot about this firm he has helped to build.
