I am a doctor who works in New York City and on Long Island. Despite this, when I had a problem with my back, I knew it would be worth the trip to see Dr. Donath in White Plains. My problem was severe. I had a torn disc at L5 and the pain was crippling. It made it hard to work and to take care of my 3 year old son. Dr. Donath recommended spinal decompression — a non-​invasive, non-​surgical technique. Within 3 visits (and I know this is a VERY fast result) I was significantly better. Now, after several weeks of continuous treatments, my back feels better than it has in years. I went to Dr. Donath because of his reputation as a spinal decompression specialist, because of his success with another patient I had referred there, and because I knew he was passionate about getting people better. It was a wonderful choice and I have the pain-​free back to prove it.

We had to contact Dr. Donath on an emergency basis to treat my son’s back injury. He was able to accommodate us on the Friday afternoon after Christmas and then followed up diligently over the weekend to monitor my son’s condition. His explanation of my son’s condition was clear and his initial therapy was helpful. But what most struck me was his dedication and concern for a patient who, because he was visiting from out of town, he would never see again.

It all started with numbness and tingling in both thighs at the beginning of my second trimester that eventually escalated to a burning, stabbing, painful sensation. It was my right thigh at first that made it impossible for me to sleep at night. Over time the right became good and my left became significantly worse. I felt hopeless! I did countless hours of research online and found that very few women experience the same symptoms and this condition was called meralgia parasthetica. When I stood for a too long, I’d experience the most painful sensation, a burning pain that intensified and ended with a snap, almost as if a blood vessel broke somewhere in there. I talked to my doctor but he said there isn’t anything that can be done and it will go away when the baby is born. I did not know what to do to ease the pain. My husband massaged my thighs almost every night but the relief only lasted for a short while. I tried applying ice packs but that only lasted for the moment and it all came back. Over time the pain caused my quadriceps so much tension that they felt rock hard. I feared the progression of my pregnancy would only worsen my condition and was afraid of the months to come. I tried acupuncture but it didn’t do much. One day I felt extremely frustrated and went back online and decided to google «prenatal chiropractors in Westchester» and my search came back with Dr. Jonathan Donath. I called and was able to see Dr. Donath that same week. I had an initial consultation and he told me it appears as if I have «Meralgia Parasthetica». For the first time I felt like there was someone I can relate to who knows this stuff and I felt hopeful. I am now 36 weeks pregnant and I continue to see him because he is the only one who has been able to help me with hands on therapy by manipulating soft tissues, which gave me relief. I have been seeing Dr. Donath for the past few weeks and I am extremely happy. Making the decision to see him was one of the best decisions I have ever made. If I hadn’t, I believe I’d still be suffering from the agonizing nerve pain. I know now that making it to the end of my pregnancy is not going to be as difficult. Thanks to Dr. Donath, I am a much happier person now and able to enjoy my pregnancy!

Towards the end of August 2010, I was involved in a freak accident. I fell out of a golf cart and was left with a large bruise on my leg and various cuts and scratches. As it turned out, these injuries were the least of my problems. In the coming weeks, I woke up each morning with severe pain running down the outside of my left leg. The pain was constant and ultimately made its way down to my calf and then my ankle.
I was willing to try anything to make it stop. After a friend recommended that I try acupuncture, I read some online reviews and then headed to Manhattan to give it a try. I found that acupuncture gave only fleeting relief, and it did not even temporarily address the piercing sensation I felt each morning. After trying several other options (including cupping, pain medications and even infomercial items), I googled all sorts of remedies. I first visited Dr. Donath at the end of September. He ordered an MRI, which revealed that I had 2 herniated discs and 1 bulging disc. Dr. Donath told me that I was a good candidate for his spinal decompression machine. He encouraged me by saying that he expected that this treatment, coupled with an exercise routine that he put together for me, would have me completely healthy and back exercising and playing sports within a few months. I began the treatment that day and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. My sciatica began to disappear within a week and, finally, I was able to get in and out of my car without a burning pain. Just prior to Thanksgiving, I was back at the gym (doing exercises recommended by Dr. Donath) and by Christmas, I was pain free.
My biggest accomplishment occurred on February 1, 2011. As a member of the Multiple Myeloma Team, I ran up the stairs to the top of the Empire State Building. In sum, four months after meeting Dr. Donath, I ran up 86 flights of stairs. The following month, I attended a 3 day golf clinic that involved taking roughly 1000 swings and still, I am pain-​free.
Not only did Dr. Donath fix me in a relatively short time frame, he is a great guy and has a wonderful staff. I am indebted to him and highly recommend him and his caring staff. They saved my back and my sanity.

I did decompression for 4 months with Dr. Jonathan Donath. It did absolutely nothing. Dr. Donath is a smooth talker and a good charmer, but his method didn’t work for me. Why am I so angry? He GUARANTEED verbally that this would bring me back to 100%. And the best was when he wanted me to do a video testimonial for him when I wasn’t even better. He was ready to put a camera in my face and have me plug his business when I was still in pain.
When I didn’t see him, his assistant put me on the machine. And she played on her cell phone when I was on the machine. $ 6000 down the drain, if you ask me.
I hope you guys find a way to alleviate the pain. I know how much it hurts.
