History

Established in 2013.

Tuckerbox has been operating for about 5 years. However, in November 2013 owners of Istanbul Kebab House in Essex Junction, Vural, Jackie, and Hasan Oktay took over Tuckerbox. The Oktay team kept the popular coffee house concept during the day, building on the menu to offer authentic Turkish and Mediterranean items. They also developed a robust, candlelit dinner service featuring Authentic Turkish and Mediterranean Cuisine. Dinner is served Tuesdays through Saturdays. The owners continue to expand their ideas and are working to eventually open for brunch on Sundays as well. The atmosphere is really eclectic with common train passing by outside.

Vural O.

Business Owner

Vural Oktay was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. There he worked as a front waiter in many large hotels including Four Seasons Istanbul and Swiss Otel Bosphorus. In 2003 Vural moved to the United States, working at Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, NH where he met his future wife, Jackie Heath. Vural continued in the hotel business working around the state including Basin Harbor Club in Vermont and Hanover Inn in New Hampshire. In 2012, Vural followed his dreams and in partnership with his wife and brother, Hasan Oktay, he opened the doors to his first restaurant, Istanbul Kebab House, in Essex Junction, VT. During his time at Hanover Inn, Vural meet a lot of great people and fell in love with the Upper Valley Community. He always wanted to bring the Turkish food culture to the Upper Valley and in November 2013 his opportunity arose. Tuckerbox in White River Junction was up for sale and Vural, Jackie, and Hasan immediately jumped at the opportunity.
