Laurel Elementary School

For the most part we like this school. My girls went to la Merced elementary last year and the teacher there ms. Duran was sorry to say a poor excuse for a teacher. Anywho, the teachers my girls have now here at laurel are more attentive to the kids needs and take the time to talk (and listen) to the parents concerns. They both received academic excellence here :) they only problem I have here is the dropping/​picking up kids. Parents here have no consideration for rules (which by the way– kids will not follow rules if parents don’t) THERE IS NO PARKING ON OUTSIDE DRIVE PEOPLE! And PULL UP ONCE A CAR LEAVES! That way things run smoothly.
*sidenote– we love the fact they have a picnic day for parents to Come enjoy lunch with their children PLEASE KEEP THAT UP LAUREL!

My daughter had a teacher by the name of Ned Perischo… if your child gets this teacher please make sure to get then switched. She is a first grade teacher who treats her children so awful. She yells at her students and criticizes them as they are learning. Many times she would tell my daughter that she couldn’t wear bows in her class because they were distracting to her classroom and make her take them off as well as put her jacket in the floor because she thought they didn’t belong on the back of their chairs. One time my daughter was late and she made sure to embarrass her in front of everyone. During a parent conference her step father went because I (mother) had to work. As he enters the room she rolled her eyes and made it very apparent she did not want to talk to him. She told him she would not be able to disclose any info with him and walked to her door to excuse him. He told her I’m in all her in in all her cards stating I am her father (my daughter doesn’t know different) and she begin to kick him out. After addressing the principal Mr. Ruiz (who is also rude) begun to tell me that Mrs P is a highly regarded teacher and he doesn’t think she Meant any harm, and that its just a lack of communication. After crying because there were also other issues that she had caused as even going as far as calling the CPS because she had an «idea» that my daughter was «Abused» due to her being emotional one day. I was extremely upset and concerned at this point because obviously this woman was vindictive. I have a neighbor who is also a teacher who’s child is in her class and she has similar issues. Going to the principal will do nothing he’s just as rude as his staff including the front desk. The two secretaries in the front never smile always busy and never follow up on anything! This school needs some serious work including academically.

They have a new principal for 2014 school year. I had high hopes for this school when my child started kinder but admin and the people who work at front desk are rude. Several times I needed assistance and all I got was a smart ass attitude or they were too busy. They always make you write down your information and possibly get back to you. They do not care for the parents concerns. I wish the old principal was there because he actually reassured you in any situation regarding your child. Over all not good school!

An elementary school that you would think to be in a LAC school district, nothing amazing. But still… a good school
