Popular Community Bank

Yes I agree with the other Popular Bank reviews, especially concerning the East Whittier branch and specifically its’ manager… an ill tempered lazy woman who is consistently rude to the customers. I do believe the younger staff would display improved customer service if this manager were fired as she so justly deserves to be. Sad… this should be a good branch, it has a great location.

As the other review said this bank used to be Quaker, wow those were the days! I drive out of my way to go to another Banco Popular. Why you ask? All the employees inside allegedly look like they want to kill themselves, my dad went to this specific branch to grab some cash. He started walking away from the teller once he received his cash, until he quickly realized he was short changed. He had only taken 3 steps before realizing the mistake and rather than fix the error the manager made him wait while they counted out the teller’s drawer before finally giving him the correct amount he was supposed to receive. Thanks to that incident I always do my own count…
Banco Popular is a great bank. They don’t charge me for my accounts, and I don’t have to make any minimum transactions. But if you do have a Banco Popular account avoid this branch like the plague! Go to the one in La Habra or the other whittier branch, I’ve even waited until I was in La Mirada to visit the one on imperial and la mirada blvd just to avoid this branch.

This bank is from Puerto Rico, and is completely disorganized there in PR as well as here. Assets of 38 billion? That has to be a lie. Puerto Rico is in a depression for the last 5 years, and there is no end in sight, Im sure that those 38 billion in assets are tied to Puerto Rican properties that are grossly over valued. Banco Popular is incompetent. I have an account in Banco Popular in Puerto Rico, and when I moved back to the states, I had a few checks to deposit. So, I went to Banco Popular and found out that the Banco Popular in the US is not connected at all to the Banco Popular in PR, same name, but different banks, but same parent owner. For example, my mortgage payment coupon payment book shows up in the mail 6 – 8 months after the last years coupons have finished. I have to go personally to tell them to send my mortgage payment book every year. I have to look on the internet each month to see if my mortgage payment has changed, in order to send them the right amount. Understaffed, inept and a joke is how I would describe BPPR. Im surprised they have lasted so long outside of PR.

Banco Popular sucks, big time.
This used to be Quaker Bank, which started here in Whittier. Quaker Bank was a very friendly, service-​oriented bank. They helped me out big time when someone was paying their bills using my bank account while I was living in Europe. Banco Popular bought Quaker about 5 years ago, and it has gone downhill ever since.
Banco Popular is understaffed, and the staff that works there aren’t competent. They give you incorrect change, take forever, and are downright rude. (About half of the staff that used to work at Quaker left, so that tells you something.) I don’t know how many times my family has had to go back down to the bank because of an error made by the teller, and then the teller would be rude and deny it.
We call this place Banco UNpopular.
