History
Established in 1957.
In 1957 Helen Woodward purchased a book store from Mr. Drawers and renamed it Al’s Old Books, using her husband’s first name as it let the store be placed first in the used books listing in the yellow pages! It moved to it’s current location in the mid ’70’s when the Civic theater was demolished.
In 2005 a long time customer, Anita Siemer, purchased the store and name, not wanting to lose the many wonderful memories customers had of shopping at Al’s over the years. The store has been restocked and restored and is making more good memories every day.
In 2014 Al’s has moved to a new location downtown as the previous building is being turned into a store-front church serving the Delano area. It is still mostly of the same type of books in a different layout with newer shelving and lights that all work!
Meet the Manager
Anita S.
Manager
I’ve always been an avid reader of mystery, history and science fiction/fantasy. The first book I ever bought at Al’s was probably an Edgar Rice Burroughs title. I have an engineering degree, but haven’t used it in years, except to do computer work for various people. Now I just work to find great books to share with my customers and fit in a bit of reading when I can.
