Have been going to this place now for the past 4 years and love it! Great food and good service. In case your not sure where Willernie is it is right in the middle of Mahtomedi so not far from St Paul at all. Try the black and blu steak you won’t be disappointed! Nice atmosphere and great patio as well.

Really enjoyed our first trip to Gordy’s. Some friends recommended venturing over for steaks. When Eve came to the table we said we felt so welcomed that it felt like we were in home. Then we realized she was the owner. Spinach and artichoke dip was a great appetizer. I had a filet and my wife had the Gorgonzola filet. Both steak were very good. Really enjoyed the experience and we’ll be back. Thanks Eve!

This place looks good on the inside, I’ll give it that. That should mean good food right? Nope. Meat that’s cooked to death and sides out of a grocery store bag. And, 40 bucks a plate Guys? give me a break. I’d like to see some more exciting and well-seasoned foods… Ahh the service could be better… I mean, I may be back someday but not tomorrow.

Dependably Great No surprises — which is a good thing! Just reliably good food and service. A classic steakhouse menu done right. Calamari, wedge salad, onion soup, burgers, fresh pizzas, steaks and fish. All fresh and simply done to highlight the fresh quality ingredients and not hide them. If you like The St. Paul Grill or Porterhouse then you will love Gordy’s. By the way, Gordy’s wins the award for«Darkest Bar and Restaurant in Minnesota». Which I love. Dark, candlelit, roomy leather booths, warmth from the full crowd of well heeled diners. There is alway a game on behind the bar but it doesn’t overpower the atmosphere. Soft murmur of patrons sets just the right mood for an intimate dinner or for a table of four to talk and relax without being rushed out the door. I could eat dinner here every Saturday night for the rest of my life.

Great food, great service, I really enjoyed the food. I wanted to eat a bit light so I had the Steak Oscar and it was just perfect. Also the seared tuna appetizer was very well executed and very pleasing to the palate. I would recommend and eat there again.

Went in on New Year’s Eve was given table for an hour and half then rushed out after 50 minutes owner/manager Eve. I understand it’s a busy time of year but Eve forgot the time frame she had given us. She spent the whole of our visits at the bar drinking and talking/flirting with other guests, talking trash and ruining our dining experience. She was extremely rude and inconsiderate of restaurant etiquette. Having been in the restaurant industry for many years at high end restaurants in New York I know I can put small town places to these standards, but in this industry you are your word and hers/this establishment means nothing. Very unprofessional and made it to feel like we were unwelcome. Will not be going back to Gordy’s. The only saving grace was our waitress, who was in no way involved with the absentminded Eve(manager).

We tried this place for the first time based on what we’d heard and were in the area. Got there early, in the nick of time before those arriving minutes behind us waited at the bar. Nice booths, nice service, decent drink prices. As I remarked to my companion«great salad!» He noticed something foreign in his which looked like a raw shrimp tail! Ugh! I pointed this out to the server asking what it was wondering if it was a shrimp tail, she said sorry, then speculated it might be the inside of lettuce piece. Hmmmm. Maybe. Whisked it away. We ordered 14 oz New York based on server recommendation, and walleye dinner, their #1 dinner. Au gratin potatoes were amazing, bread amazing, walleye good. New York, highest cost item on the menu had long huge piece of gristle down it which you could hardly cut thru. Steak was tasty but this was a big disappointment in quality for the price. This was like something you’d buy in a grocery store. Didn’t say anything since we’d commented already on the foreign salad issue. When check came, nothing comped or offered based on that salad thing, not that we asked, but thought it might have been acknowledged or explained or something. I mean, if I was the server, I would’ve gone back to kitchen to figure it out, them explained it one way or another. Bottom line, this is a cool, quaint little place. Good food, but nothing like a Mancini’s which it seems to try to mimic with steaks. We WOULD give it another try…

Back in the 80’s, this was the Shore club restaurant-I used to go there for the all you could eat prime rib for $ 11.00. Times have changed. The restaurant has an updated interior-dark wood(my favorite) and nice decorations-would be a good spot for a romantic date night. Interior is one of my favorites in the area. Service and food are excellent, my favorites are the appetizers-toro tips with spicy plum sauce and the mussels with sauce that’s so good I have to use the bread to sop up the leftover sauce. Bread-artisnal hard crust, soft center. One of the few restaurants where I have second and third servings of it. Before I forget, they have the best french onion soup I have had anywhere. Prime rib is «hit or miss» like most restaurants-see my other reviews if that’s what you are looking for, but you probably won’t find the atmosphere as pleasant as Gordy’s.

We heard good things about this place had to give it a try. Great food and service. We made reservations and the only thing we didn’t care for was the seating they had placed us right next to the bar. A little noisy I think next time we will try to sit on the patio on a nice summer day. Once again great steak!!!

Instead of opting to celebrate our anniversary at a place where either of us had been, based on the Unilocal review, I made reservations at Gordy’s so Laurie and I could have a shared first-time experience. I thought it was good karma the previous reviewers were too celebrating their anniversary but that’s where the similarity of our experiences ended. The crab cakes with roasted pepper aioli were the highlight of the meal for me and the only thing we ate tonight warranting a return trip. Subtly seasoned lump meat crab with no breading or filler and yet they held together; from numerous attempts to make them, I know that’s difficult to achieve. The salad and sides — Caesar, mashed baby red potatoes, and au gratins were pedestrian and uninspired. Laurie had the signature sirloin stuffed with blue cheese and topped with a tarragon laced béarnaise. She enjoyed it but I prefer beef with nothing except salt and pepper. I tried the dry-aged prime rib which was tasty and remarkably tender but the chef failed to trim some of the decomposed fat which made for some unpleasant tasting bites. The dessert tray looked good but we opted to pass. I desperately wanted to stick a fork in that cheesecake to see if it really was the super-dense NY style cheesecake it was purported to be. We were seated directly in front of the fireplace you see on the website. What you don’t see is that the kitchen door is situated 8 feet away. Between the brilliant flashes of fluorescent light whenever the kitchen door opened; wait staff gathering to chat or buzzing by and at high speed; and a martini-quaffing raspy-voiced middle-aged blonde embodiment of Foghorn Leghorn sitting at the next table making across the room comments to, and conversation with, staff she knew, made us feel a little on edge and unsettled. The food was OK; the service was OK but definitely not commensurate with a restaurant of this caliber; the slightly above average prices are justified, apparently, by the dark, yet appealing, retro ambiance that was considered 60s upscale; we kept comparing the food and experience to the Cherokee Sirloin Room and wished we had gone there instead… That being said, now that we know the lay of the place, we’ll likely try Gordy’s again and report back to Unilocal on that experience…

Last night was mine and the boyfriends one year anniversary, well since it was my night to plan I decided to throw a wrench in his typical Applebees or Bdubs ritual and take him out to an actual restaurant. Now being a waitress I’m always a little skeptical about going someplace new… you have to worry is their service going to be good, whats the atmosphere going to be like, and most importantly how will the food be. But since all I’ve heard about gordy’s is good reviews I thought what the heck lets go for it and introduce the boy to good food. All I can say was Gordy’s was an awesome choice for our special night! The service was superb… I called in a reservation which when they asked what time they also asked if it was a special occasion. Walking in to Gordy’s we were greeted by a dimly lit romantic atmosphere where we were seated by a nicely dressed looking host who even wished us a happy anniversary. Our server was a sweetheart. she was very nice held a great conversation and made sure all of our needs were met. She also introduced us to the menu and was highly educated about all of the items on the menu. She definitely passed the server test :) After hearing about all the delicious foods with our mouths watering we decided to order… the boyfriend got a nice 14oz New York Strip and I got an 8oz sirloin. Both of our entrees were accompanied with our choice of salad or soup and choice of vegetable or potato. The salad came out before hand with the yummiest bread. It was nice and soft in the middle but then had crusty edge around it. The boyfriend’s new york strip was delicious and his teriyaki green beans were superb. My sirloin was cooked at a perfect medium giving it just the right amount of juicyness and I cherished every bite. I also got the cheesy augratin potatoes that were just as delicious. After we thought that we couldn’t eat another bite, the boyfriend didn’t even think he could finish his beer, our server suprised us with bringing out a fanatastic piece of chocolate cake with ice cream on top and whipcream on the side. It looked so good that although our stomachs were screaming no, our eyes won the fight and we devoured the whole thing. Definitely the best way for us to top off a fantastic year together and I guess we weren’t the only ones. The two tables sitting next to us were celebrating their 27 yr anniversary and their 20th. So if you are looking for a special place to celebrate a great night think about Gordy’s. Delicious food, fantastic service, beautiful atmosphere. What else could ya want?!
