Specialties
For 30 years Berret’s Seafood Restaurant and Taphouse Grill has offered two dining choices in one convenient location. We are located in Merchants Square, one block from the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg and across from the College of William and Mary.
The Seafood Restaurant has been voted by locals as «Best in Williamsburg» year after year. We actively seek out the freshest in regional seafoods and produce. Our proximity to the York and James Rivers, Chesapeake Bay, and offshore Atlantic waters provide a variety of fresh seasonal catches: shad roe, softshell crabs and sea trout in the spring; flounder cobia, tuna, wahoo and bluefish in the summer; and rockfish, red fish and sea bass each fall. With the availability of local natural oysters and clams and the advent of aquaculture, we offer shellfish year-round. For the unfortunates who wish not to eat seafood, equal care is taken with our steaks, chops and poultry entrees.
History
Established in 1983.
Berret’s Seafood Restaurant and Taphouse Grill, located in Merchants Square, one block from Historic Colonial Williamsburg, occupies a building that, beginning in the late 1930’s, was home to Person’s Williamsburg Ford Dealership and Esso station.
Converted to a restaurant by its origininal owner Berret Violette in 1983, Berret’s was purchased in December of 1984 by Oyster Limited Partnership.
Chosen by locals as «Best Seafood Restaurant» in Williamsburg and «Best Crabcake» year after year, Berret’s offers two dining choices in one convenient location. The Restaurant specializes in regional seafoods prepared with both traditional and contemporary recipes, an extensive wine list and locally-brewed beers.
The Taphouse Grill focuses on hard-to-find and unique foods, wines, beers, music, and art of modern-day Virginia. This casual, outdoor setting has been a favorite gathering place for locals, students from the College of William and Mary, and visitors to the Historic Area.
