Bluegreen Vacations Patrick Henry Sqr, Ascend Resort Collection

Pleasantly surprised — the only major bad thing? Construction and NO POOL — you have to schlep to a «sister resorts» pool — but it is a nice one for kids.
2 bedroom time-​share condo (They will try to get you to listen to their pitch yet again.) and free washer driers on another floor.
No issues with the room and thankfully no construction noise — but you CAN hear your neighbor’s bathroom (toilet flushing — shower turning on and off). Wish it were a bit quieter.
Also — not alot of train noise — but maybe we lucked out.

If you’re traveling as a family and would like an affordable 2 bedroom option, this place is great! Rooms were clean and comfortable, staff were friendly for the most part.
This hotel is in perfect proximity to Colonial Williamsburg and you can definitely walk it if you don’t mind starting near the old capitol building. If you want to start at the visitor’s center, drive and park. With all the walking through the sites, and especially if you’re with kids, it’d be too much to walk from the hotel to the visitor’s center
The hotel was undergoing some extensive renovations while we were there, so no pool. We will definitely visit again we all had a great time.

I am not going to get into the cost/​value discussion about staying here in as much as it relates to the cost of being an owner in Bluegreen. That’s for the better written than I am.
It has been a year since we stayed here last. We use this place as a jumping off point for trips to Busch Gardens (for their Halloween and upcoming Christmas town events). Just a way to shorten our drives back and forth with the apocalyptic traffic on I-​64.
This trip we were given a single room (studio) room. It was well furnished, and did not have the beaten to death look we have encountered at the Bluegreen properties in Shenandoah Crossing and Gatlinburg. As this is a somewhat new (to Bluegreen) property it is not near to the 5 year upgrade the rooms (so we were told) story we had been told at other properties. If that is the case, then Gatlinburg and Shenandoah Crossing, must be in dog years.
Last year, we were in a ‘Suite’ room, which is a cobbling together of two rooms (our late fall trip here this year, will be in a ‘Suite’). Large bed, with sleeper sofa. Small, usable kitchen. Free, decent signal WiFi, A change from last year’s trip; you can no longer access the pool facilities at the other Williamsburg property.
The biggest change is the demolition of the second part of the old property. The wreckage is still being broken up and carried away, so the outside is quite noisy. Plans are for a 65 unit replacement to be built in it’s place, with an indoor poor, actovities and health center.
The trains still run, and they, too, are noisy.
It was the Homecoming weekend for a local college, so the property was booked solid. So, I am not sure, if it was the demolition, the trains, or the tight booking, but I got the chance to listen to a woman complaining to the concierge (think Thurston Howell III voice) which made me laugh.
One would think, that after the replacement units are up and operational, the property would be more appealing. However, as it serves our purposes, completely, as it stands (in transition) I cannot complain.
We got the expected call the day before arrival, for a sales pitch. I explained to the gal about our poor experience with Shenandoah Crossing, so we only ended up being asked twice, instead of four times.
Does No really mean No?
Within it’s scope, this place is recommended. A great jumping off point for the local attractions, to include Colonial Williamsburg.
Just remember. Trains. They were here before this building was build decades ago. They make noise. Deal with it.
And the demolition, and reconstruction will continue for some time in the foreseeable future.

Set just across the road from the Colonial Williamsburg horse pastures, there isn’t much to say other than, it was super clean, staff were nice and friendly, and the rooms were nice and comfy.
Typical setup that we have come to expect with these timeshare condos. Minus two benefits, which we’ve grown accustom to which were, in unit laundry and a pool. The laundry was just down the hall from our unit, which wasn’t a big deal but it would have been nice to cut out the small closet in the master bath, shorten up the master shower, to add a washer and dryer. If this place had been busy the handful of washers and driers would not have been enough. Again, NO POOL! For those who like that feature as we do, we were there in the early Spring and didn’t miss it, but it would be seriously missed during the summer months.
Not much of a view from our unit, we faced out back onto some greenery, parking lot and the train tracks, which we didn’t hear at night, so I have no complaints about that! Next door the Patrick Henry Inn is in a sad state, I’m guessing it’s being remodeled, from the looks of things they have a ways to go.
Furniture and kitchenette we fine, someone had cooked bacon in the unit prior to our rental, we opted to buy a candle or two at the local Dollar store to freshen things up, I’m not one to turn down bacon smelling anything, but in a enclosed condo it was a bit much. Still the unit was very clean, other than the smell that did go away after a while.
Well situated between Busch Gardens and the many historical sites in the area, it was a great central location for accessing the all things Virginia. Chic-​a-​fila isn’t too far away, via car, which was an added bonus.
Closest walking distance to a store is the 7 – 11, if you have a car there are no issues. Decent parking, nice quiet facility, great place to come back to in the evening to relax and recharge after a long day.

We had the two bedroom. Funny setup. Doors in Master bedroom were in the way as they stuck out in the walkway. When they were open, you were afraid you would walk into the edge of one in the night. Just an average hotel room with kitchenette. BlueGreen advertises that they are special but sorry, pretty run of the mill hotel room, without daily maid service.
This is my third stay with Bluegreen and I must say they have been consistent. They have the most uncomfortable furniture I have ever encountered outside of Fred Flintstone’s! Oh, one of the best things here is that of our view. We overlook the railroad tracks about 100 feet away. Hope you like trains because they run day and night.
The TVs are nice, 3 flat screens. Kitchenette was fine and everything worked well. The stove does not have an oven, but has a convection/​microwave. Worked pretty well actually.
One last thing. I have stayed at hundreds of hotels and on an extended stay, some of the hotel’s room keys stop working on the last day. I don’t quite know why but maybe to ensure you come by their front desk before your departure. These were mostly lower end establishments. It works nice. You take a load out to your car and when you try to get back in your room, electronic key will not work! This is the way of BlueGreen it appears. I took a load of baggage to my truck and returned to my room. The card worked to get me in the building but would not open the room door. Had to go all the way back down and out of the building to get to front desk in another building! This was not a fluke, my wife’s card was the same.
BlueGreen? No thank you!

We stayed here in early June 2013. Loved our 2 bedroom and the staff and Bluegreen advisers answered many of our questions about Bluegreen.
We will be going back and we loved how Patrick Henry was in the hub of all the best historic sites!

We stayed in a studio at Patrick Henry Square again a few weeks ago and were pleasantly surprised by the fact that the studios had the same kitchen set up the two bedrooms have: two «burner» electric stove, convection/​microwave oven, full refrigerator and dishwasher. Aside from the smaller full sized bed (we have a queen at home and generally book to get a king if we can), I liked it better than having the master bedroom in a two bedroom as I don’t really like the bathroom set up in the latter (long and narrow with just a shower, no bathtub) whereas the studio’s bathroom is more like your standard bathroom. Ours was located in the new building, right off the elevator.
As long as you’re not booking one of the old hotel rooms, the studios are nice, clean and like I said the only complaint I’d have is that you lose the king bed of the two bedroom master bedroom for a full sized bed.
