History

Established in 1935.

Williamsburg’s accommodation’s landmark, the Cedars is the oldest and largest (and many would say, most romantic) B&B in the area. The bricks used to build the Cedars come from one of William and Mary’s oldest buildings, the Christopher Wren.

A gazebo/​garden area was added in 2004 and has been the site of many small weddings and family gatherings.

Business Owner

Escapees from corporate backgrounds, Grace and Bob have owned the Cedars since 2002. Bob was the President of the Williamsburg Rotary Club and has been working to bring an Ironman Triathlon to Williamsburg for several years.

Grace was the CEO of a subsidiary of Xerox and Bob did Corporate Strategic Alliances and technology marketing for them.

This as my first time staying in a B&B and I was not sure if I would like it. I realize now this is essentially living in a house with some other people you don’t know. Bob made the stay very comfortable and the housekeeping staff was very friendly. I look forward to staying here again.

Mine is a cautionary tale that I could have avoided if they had some disclosure on their cute website… do not use Travelocity or Expedia or whatever to reserve this place. If you or your companion get sick or whatever, you cannot cancel and you are out the $$. If you book direct with the bed and breakfast, you could hope to get a credit so you can go another time. I would have liked to go another time but, I am way too angry to ever spend a dime at this place. Not their fault but, they ought to disclose their relationship with these «agencies» when you peruse their website and then go get a room

This was our first B&B experience. It was what I expected and not what I expected all at the same time, and a few aspects that could be slightly improved. The place was clean, and comfortable, and the staff was absolutely friendly and accommodating. The food was good, not great, and since my favorite part of vacations include eating locally, I am not sure the food was up to par.
The Cedars is an easy walk to everything as it is perfectly located. Parking was just enough for the guests during our visit, so hopefully they don’t ever have an extremely full house or the parking might be a challenge. Everything that I could have needed was provided during my stay, but I was not particularly needy during my weekend trip. Bob was delightful — but be warned — he will definitely be taking lots of pictures, maybe too many for the opinion of some. The room (the Martha Washington) was comfortable, but could use some rearranging as the bathroom door could not close due to the bed being too large in the bedroom. The building is extremely old (as expected in Williamsburg) so every movement causes a creak to be heard throughout the house.
Overall, very warm and welcoming, I would definitely stay at the Cedars again if in Williamsburg.

My parents and I needed a place to stay (on our way to Myrtle Beach, SC to meet the rest of our huge family). Cedars of Williamsburg had the best reviews so we booked a Thomas Jefferson Suite the day before (Megan was super helpful!). The room was just how it was pictured (historical and well-​maintained). The following morning we were seated at the dining area for breakfast and were greeted by Bob, the owner. He was super welcoming and made our stay more memorable than we expected. You will find out what that means if you stay at Cedars of Williamsburg ;) The garden area was great for photos and Bob is a creative photographer for his guests. We already recommended this bed and breakfast to our huge family! Thank you for the hospitality!

Great location, lovely staff, and a very homely environment. Love that the breakfast food is homemade and changes daily, and Bob (the owner) was a terrific, engaging host.
The two downsides: If you were to stay in the detached cottage which features two suites, you’d have to share the A/​C settings with guests in the other suite. What if I like it toasty and the guests below me prefer their room cool? Also, I found the request for picture-​taking a bit much. When they say they love taking pictures in your debriefing email, they were not lying, however, it comes off as being overeager for marketing.
All in all, a great B&B worth checking in!

This was my first time ever staying at a BnB and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I wish the website would have better picture quality of the room just to give an overall idea. I stayed in the Lord Bourtetourt room which is nice because it’s in a little cottage in the back. (The only downside was how low the ceilings were in some places because of the slanted beams. If you’re over 6ft like myself I would suggest booking another room. Overall it was not unbearable.) Loved the fireplace! Best thing to have during the winter months. The staff was really friendly. Bob does push for taking pictures but if you tell him no thanks he will oblige to your request. The berry french toast is probably one of the best I’ve ever had! Quaint place and easy walking distance to Merchant Square and Colonial Williamsburg. One complaint is that the Wifi was only available inside the main home and was constantly going in and out. Overall, it sold me on going BnB style on vacation.

I stayed last Thursday and Friday. The room was clean. The breakfast was better than any restaurant. Bob, the owner, was very friendly. He enjoyed taking pictures which he gives to you prior to checkout. The off season prices were ok. Overall I enjoyed my visit.

We stayed 2 nights in the Plantation Room. It was lovely & colonial though small (as all rooms appear to be). The host, Bob, was friendly & talkative. He really likes taking pictures of the guests! I think he really meant well but it was a bit much at times. The breakfast was nice (apple french toast, eggs florentine, muffins, etc) though only served a limited time (about 8−9am). The house is close to W&M and Colonial Wmbg. Overall it was a lovely experience & I would come again.

I’m updating my review after our stay. The B&B was charming, clean, and in a great location (it’s a short walk to Williamsburg). The owner was friendly and knowledgeable. He also offered us a free bottle of wine and apologized about the confusion regarding the twin bed. Overall, we had a great weekend and I’d definitely stay here again. :)

This was overall enjoyable though I wish they had been able to apply the military discount after we became aware of it on check-​in. We were yelled at by college students walking in to the main part of town, but that’s not the B+B’s fault. Overall it was very charming, well decorated, but the real star was Bob. He was everything you would want in a host!

Great location, would have walked everywhere but it was 95 degrees! Comfortable room, very good breakfast is served on a cozy porch. Bob, the owner, is very personable, all enjoyed his stories and tidbits about the area. He took photos of each couple and surprised us upon leaving with a Cedars of Williamsburg brochure complete with our photo on the cover! Exceptional idea! Would definitely recommend this B&B!

I am just amazed at all of the 5 start reviews! Not sure what rooms all of the other reviewers stayed in, but my room (the Lord Bourtetourt room) was a huge disappointment. The carpets, towels, linens, and curtains were dingy and the bed felt and sounded like there was a paper mattress pad underneath. The room had a musky smell to it and the windows would not stay propped open. It was a cold night and we were really looking forward to the room’s only noteworthy feature: the fireplace (even though it was only electric and not wood burning.) We spent at least 45 minutes trying to get the darn thing to work and were unable to call for help as it was after 10:00PM and a sign in the room said to only call after 10PM for emergencies. We never were able to get it to work.
The buffet bfast in the morning was okay. There was one redeeming dish, but the coffee was weak and not hot, the jam was in those little Smuckers plastic 1 serving packs, and the muffins were store bought. The owner was very nice as the other reviewers expressed, but no amount of niceness could make up for the disappointing room and breakfast.
I usually don’t write reviews, but I felt deceived by all of the 5 star ratings/​reviews and didn’t want other couples, hoping for the romantic experience we were hoping for, to suffer the same fate.

Part of our 1-​year anniversary celebration was a stay at the Cedars. From start to finish I loved everything about the Cedars. The owner Bob made the reservation process simple and was able to accommodate every request. The room was clean and extremely comfortable (George Washington Suite). The breakfast was outstanding. I can’t say enough about my experience at the Cedars of Williamsburg — other than I look forward to going back soon!

We chose the Cedars Bed & Breakfast based on other reviews, and we were thrilled that our last minute decision to stay overnight in Williamsburg was made so easy. We were able to find a highly-​rated place to stay and book the room right from our phone. It is a definite plus that Bob is a marketing dynamo. We loved how a place with old world charm could also take advantage of today’s technology.
The place itself is beautiful, very clean and the garden is impecabble. We were there when the gardenias were in bloom so the smell was amazing. The gazebo tucked behind the house amongst the trees was a great escape and my husband was even visited by a deer while he sat out there. The room was well-​decorated and quaint. The bed was big and comfortable and the overhead fan and central air-​conditioning were a welcome comfort as we were there during a heat wave.
Breakfast was fantastic and our hosts Bob and Grace told wonderful stories. It really was a warm, welcoming experience. Make sure to ask for the recipe for the Baked Berry French Toast, it is delicious.

What a quaint, charming place — friendly and helpful owners and excellent location. The Inn is a ½ mile strait shot to Colonial Williamsburg, easy walking distance. If you want to get in your car and drive, it’s located within 8 miles of pretty much anything you’d want to do in Williamsburg. Loved the décor, full of old-​fashioned charm and was so pleasantly surprised as to how quiet it was, as older homes/​buildings can sometimes have paper-​thin walls. Also, there was adequate off-​street parking for everyone there in the back, which was next to a charming outdoor area with a gazebo. Breakfast served by owners Bob and Grace was excellent, and offered a variety of food — cheese eggs, spiced apples, strata, yogurt, fruit. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Wburg, and would definitely re-​visit Cedars if I were ever in the area again.

I chose this place based off other reviews. Everyone has it spot on… the place is nice, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great and there is coffee, water, and snacks available all day. Every room has a private bath. There is only 1 tv which is in the common area. The caretaker Bob is awesome and really funny; he made us feel very comfortable and is very knowledgeable about the area. Some people declined the «breakfast photo» but I thought it was funny and he prints out the photos and emails them to you. .cute souvenir and something different from the traditional B&B style. The breakfast was served buffet style so you can wonder in as you please while it is being served. The area is great too. it is walking distance to William and Mary and Colonial Williamsburg. I paid $ 175 total including tax due to an «off season» sale… the normal price is $ 210 plus tax for this room.

This was my first bed and breakfast, but I can’t see how it could’ve been too much better. Your host at this bed and breakfast is gracious and wecloming. He knows pretty much everything about Williamsburg, and can direct you to any number of attractions, and give suggestions on planning your day.
We had the christopher Wren suite, which was on the top floor, and was beautiful. My wife loved the setup of the room as well as the décor.
The house staff is really friendly and often will stop to talk to you and help you enjoy your day.
Great location. we had an easy 5 minute bike ride into colonial Williamsburg
Though I didn’t do a full comparison with other Bed and Breakfasts in Wburg, the price felt slightly high. but overall, a great experience.

Very pleased with our stay. Reading all the positive reviews here and on other travel websites before choosing to stay at Cedars, made us think if its too good to be true. We stayed for 2 nights and it really is as good as it gets. (Our 7 yr old liked it so much and didn’t mind coming back to the place to rest after touring the area;) The breakfast room is her favorite (of course) and she enjoyed touring/​looking at the interiors of the other rooms. All the previous reviews are a fact.
During our stay, the wife and I were discussing if all B & B are like Cedars and maybe would try other B & B’s just to compare since it’s our first time to rent a room in a B & B but changed our mind instantly and agreed to just return to Cedars to avoid getting disappointed

This is a nice, friendly B & B. Location is great as you are across from part of the school campus and a short walk to the historical stuff and shops. The breakfast room had snacks and drinks when we checked in, and the breakfast the next day was great. Night manager was nice and got us wine glasses for us to borrow. The owners are very friendly and gave us a brochure with our picture on it to take home.

The most wonderful B&B in Williamsburg. Gracious hosts, beautiful furnishings and delightful breakfast. A joy to visit and you should not miss the opportunity to stay at the Cedars if you are in the area. It is very convenient to the Business School and the restored historical area.
