Cupcake Contessas Cupcakery

I love this place! Their cupcakes are always moist, fresh and (no matter what flavor) ridiculously delicious! The owners are sweet and very accommodating! For my sister’s baby shower, I ordered cupcakes as a favor and the owner, Laura, even created a custom topping! The baby shower occurred on the weekend after Hurricane Sandy and the bakery was closed due to lack of power. The owners still fulfilled the order and personally delivered them to my venue! They are wonderful ladies!
I went by the shop yesteday, and I could not believe the place was closed down! Where’d you go Cupcake Contessas?

The best cupcakes ever. I stopped by today to find that they have gone out of business. This is so sad. Such a beautiful place, clean, friendly service and priced right. I will miss this place

I purchased a dozen assorted cupcakes. These cupcakes are moist and just outright delicious. They were such a hit, even those who don’t do sweets could not resist. I have had more expensive cupcakes from fancy NYC bakeries that were not even half as good. The staff is very nice and friendly too!

The place is cute and the selection of cupcakes is interesting. We ordered two dozen cupcakes– allowing us to sample almost every flavor available. Overall we found the cupcakes to be better than the supermarket, but well below the quality of a good bakery or a gourmet cupcake place.
At $ 26 per dozen, you are paying gourmet NYC prices. By comparison, these are just not good enough. Take a comparison to a Georgetown cupcake; these are smaller, much smaller. A Georgetown cupcake looks as if it were decorated by an exacting pastry chef. A Contessa cupcake looks like it was done by your Aunt as she was drinking wine. Some were downright unappealing; after some time in the fridge they looked old, mummified and dehydrated. The fresher ones were tasty, although some flavors were overpowered with too much frosting or unpleasant fillings.
The staff was friendly and you can feel that they want to be good. Hopefully they will spend some time tasting the (better) competition and improve a bit. They are almost there.

I’ve been looking for a cupcake place ever since I left Manhattan behind. After reading some reviews online, I decided to try this place. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and I wanted to do a little surprise dessert at his place after dinner — so I traveled over here.
First of all, it is such a cute place, and you definitely cannot miss it amongst the street with the other quaint shops.
I was there on a Saturday, and it was not that crowded. The lady behind the counter, I forget her name, helped me, as I couldn’t decide on what to get. I wound up getting 6 cupcakes, and they even put a birthday bow and card around it to play it up. And let me tell you, the taste was phenomenal! My favorite was the one that had coconut and chocolate in it! My boyfriend did love it, and was pleasantly surprised.
This will definitely be my go-​to place for any occasion needing cupcakes! Reasonably priced too.

I have patroned Cupcake Contessas twice and both times have been dismal experiences.
The first time I went in there, I bought 4 cupcakes to give them a try. I mean, you have to check out the local shoppes, right? I tried a Razzmatazz, Samoa, Peanut Butter Cup, and Chocolate Indulgence. The icing was good, but the cake part itself was dry. The chocolate indulgence crumbled, and the vanilla cupcakes weren’t even remotely flavorful. I wasn’t impressed with this visit.
I tried them again. I ordered 50 cupcakes for a party I was having and I did not feel like cooking. Every single person at my party said my own home baked cupcakes were a million times better than these. Again, the cake part was dry in all of them and the Bananarama tasted peppery. The cupcakes weren’t a hit and for $ 112, I would have expected better.
Anyone who says that these cupcakes are delicious are dilusional. You’d be better off making cupcakes with Better Crocker mix from the grocery store.

First time at Contessa. We were having a family dinner and everyone has different favorites. Choices were varied and appealing. The six of us were delighted with the cupcakes and would return for special occasions.

This place was really A-​ok. If I was in the neighborhood I would get one cupcake. If I wasn’t I wouldn’t go out of my way to go buy cupcakes. Their frosting was amazing especially for the red velvet. Wasn’t a fan of the cake itself.

I’ve had Cupcake Contessa cupcakes previously from Piccolo Gourmet and I wasn’t too impressed. They come dry and hard when you get them from a second source. But today I was by the shop and gave it a second try.
I ordered a Blake Forest Cupcake. The cream cheese icing on it was VERY good. The cupcake itself was good, but sadly there was only 1 cherry in the center. So there was only 1 bite that tasted like Black Forest cake that I was going for. Def fresher and better directly from the shop. Just need more filling for my liking.

I was super excited when a cupcakery opened near my house… however Cupcake Contessas leaves something to be desired.
I have been twice. The first time was not long after they opened, and I found the cupcakes to be dry and hard.
Yesterday my husband brought me four cupcakes: a Red Velvet, a German Chocolate, a Fluffernutter, and some sort of coconut cupcake. Also he brought me a chocolate cake pop and 2 macarons.
I took a bite out if the green macaron, and threw it in the trash. I took a bite out of the red macaron, and threw it in the trash. Maybe I have been spoiled by Bouchon Bakery.
I took a bite of the cake pop and handed it to my husband. We threw it away.
I left the cupcakes to come to room temperature, as recommended (I waited 30 minutes before eating).
The Red Velvet is dry, has no hint of cocoa, and has sort if a grainy texture, as well as a similar taste to cornbread. The cream cheese frosting is a little asty, but the flavor isn’t terrible.
The German Chocolate cake is super dry and too chocolatey. The coconut and pecan topping is decent.
The Fluffernutter cake is dry, but not too bad, and the peanut butter frosting was way too salty. The fluff in the middle was ok.
The coconut cuocake was my favorite, but I wish the cake was moister.
Overall, did it kill me to eat these cupcakes? No. But they weren’t worth the calories and I wouldn’t pay for these again. Cupcake Contessas has innovative and fun flavors, as well as a lot of potential, but they need to work on their recipes.

Great cupcakes; Great selection. Way better than Crumbs… They stay pretty much true to who they are. Very good quality & worth traveling to pick up a dozen or so. I love the fact that they add filling within the cupcake. They should add a bigger size cupcake on there most popular choices. Recently added whoopee’s to their se;action…Great addition. Lastly, so many deli’s and traditional bakeries carry cupcakes but I personally haven’t found more delicious cupcakes in my local travels. Highly recommend.-RJ

Crumbs, who?
Working just a few store fronts away from Cupcake Contessas, I am grateful that they are open two work weekdays per week… or else I’d start looking like the Stay Puft Marshmallow man… they are THAT good! I crave them.
I am a cupcake freak– and we all know that the best cupcake is in both the frosting and the cake — the Contessas use cream cheese base frosting for most (brownie points in my book since that is my favorite) and the most delicious spongy cake that is a force to reckon with. It’s so gourmet. Makes paying $ 2.50 per cupcake well worth your money.
If you know your gourmet foods, skip Crumbs and head right to the Cupcake Contessas. Crumbs is no better than an oversized Hostess snack in my opinion. Save those for the kids.

When it comes to baked goodies, i consider myself a bit of a snob. I beleive there is a formula to a successful cupcake.
The frosting to cake ratio has to be exact. Not too much frosting as it takes away from the cake.
Fluffy and moist cake with a delicate crumb.
Not overly sweet.
A minimalist approach with regard to decorating.
a good size. A good cupcake shouldnt be itty bitty or gigantic. Standard size is perfect.
I got just what I was looking for when i received cupcakes, courtesy of Patricia R. during her last trip to Cupcake Contessas.
I tried the Chocolate Peanut butter cupcake and the Red Velvet.
I found the cupcakes to be light and airy and quite delicious. The frosting was not overpowering and was just enough to compliment the rich chocolately cake.
The red velvet, which is my standard cupcake test, was perfect. You could taste the cocoa in the cake and the cream cheese frosting was not pasty or ridiculously sweet.
They are definitely doing things right here and I am a big fan!

i found this place on a Friday afternoon in long island with hubby and mom in law so we said cupcakes lets go. small cute little bakery shop with a very friendly staff and SO many types of cupcakes cookies and cakes. they have a cupcake called Peanut Butter Cup and the Chocolate Indulgence and tickled me pink they all are yummy but these cupcakes tasted like if you baked them at home not like Ur typical bakery cupcakes. there moist and not too sweet but so soft that you need a fork which is great. you can eat Ur cupcakes in or take them to go if u wanna stay they serve you a glass milk for a dollar lol. they also have a chocolate chip cookie pie it was amazing as well. i have been here 2 already and cant wait to come back.

My family and I have been on the hunt for a really good cupcake place. We can’t stand the fake-​like, artificial and overly sweet cupcakes of some places.
We’ve tried Crumbs numerous times. Not bad but not great.
Cupcake Contessa hits it out of the park. The most homemade-​like cupcakes my family has ever had from a store. And only $ 2.50 for each cupcake.
We tried the chocolate indulgence, samoa, fluffernutter, and classic vanilla — all amazing. Perfect balance of flavors and moist.
Can’t wait to order them for an upcoming next birthday party.

These cupcakes are delicious!!! The unique thing about these cupcakes that sets them apart from other cupcakes, are the little surprises in the center of each cupcake, dependent on each flavor. I was able to try a few of their cupcakes:
— Samoa — tastes just like the girl-​scout samoa cookie, which offered both a nostalgic feeling of my younger years when I would eat a whole box of these cookies when I was younger.
— Mr. O — the usual Oreo cupcake on top with yummy buttercream and topped with finely crushed oreo bits. The special thing about this one, that more than surprised mew as an actual oreo cookie found in the middle of the cupcake. Because it was baked with the batter, the oreo cookie was very soft to bite into.
— Triple Chocolate — Chocolate fans rejoice, this cupcake will glorify your chocolate cupcake desires. And in the very middle is soft, though I wished it were gooey, chocolate fudge. Yum!
— Red Velvet — a favorite among many, and this red velvet cupcake surely does not disappoint. It was your standard but very appreciable cupcake, but again, the real treat was the cream cheese found right in the middle.
The cupcake batter was somewhat the same between each cupcake, fluffy and airy, though thick enough to give it some substance unlike other cupcakes that would just completely fall apart. The only distinguishing difference was the flavor of the cupcake.
This was somewhat of a sleeper cupcake joint, however I’m glad I had a chance to try them because I will be coming back. Although they are not the best cupcakes I’ve had, the hidden surprises inside each cupcake are definitely refreshing in this recently cupcake-​crazed surge of generic bakeries.

This puts Crumbs is shame ! Unreal flavors, fresh, and yes they are experience. But would you rather eat a fantastic cupcake for $ 2.50 or a so so cupcake for less ?
Try the brownies and cookies also fantastic and more reasonably priced.
I actually asked why the brownies and cookies are cheap compared to the cupcakes. The answer was it’s all the labor involved, that made sense.
Great place, nice people, small cupcakes so buy 2 per person.

After eating at the diner on the corner, I stopped in here for a sweet treat. The cupcakes are small (the size you would make from a box at home) and are $ 2.50 a piece. I got 4 cupcakes for us to try plus a peanut butter cookie.
The cookie was yummy, soft & chewy. The cupcakes were eh, I have had better… They were not sweet, not very moist and once again were on the small side. They had gourmet flavors but I wished I would have gotten a traditional vanilla/​vanilla and could base my review off of that.

I love this place… it’s so cute! The cupcakes are AMAZING! The crumb cake and cookies are to die for. I bring an assortment to friends’, and it’s great because you can get all different flavors in one box. Great prices, great flavors, great place!
