A few months ago, I wrote a 5-star review on British Connection’s Facebook and am happy to see them on Unilocal,so I can rave about them some more. I make a lot of British and Irish food. Before I moved here and started shopping at British connection, I had to make a lot of substitutions because I just couldn’t find the products I needed in other markets. At British Connection, I can get my previously hard to find products like British bacon, double cream, vegetable suet, Marmite, damson jam, gooseberry jam, current juice, etc. They’re prepared products like the pasties and sausage rolls are fantastic and perfect for weekend lunches or an evening when I don’t have the time to prepare something myself. My 2 ½ daughter says, «Yum, yum» every time we go to the store because she associates the British Connection with so many tasty foods. Plus, the ladies who run the shop are super nice. We’re military, so we know a move is some time in our future, and I told my husband the other night that I have no idea what I’m going to do when we move and no longer have the British Connection near us because I’ve become so dependent on it.

There is a clear need for a British food shop in the Wilmington area as evidenced by just how quickly British Connection run out of things. I highly recommend following their Facebook page to stay informed about when new stock arrives. Thankfully they’ve taken things in stride, and have adapted to the quick demand for what they have to offer. Besides the common staples like Marmite and McVities, you’ll find a good selection of tinned items, candies, and an impressive selection of frozen goods like steak and kidney pies, bangers, black pudding, and more. As one would expect with a new business, they’re adding new items all the time, and have plans to open a tea room on site, they’ve already submitted the paperwork and such for permits. What you might not expect from a niche boutique shop like British Connection is fair prices, but I was pleasantly surprised to not only find that they’re competitive, but that they do offer some things cheaper than I’ve seen elsewhere. Not that you can get most of what they offer anywhere else without sixty miles. British Connection is a must-visit shop whether you’re looking for delicious goods from home, or want a British or Union-Jack-themed gift item.
