Hampton Inn and Suites

The carpet baseboard was peeling off the wall and I could see the carpet peeling up by the bathroom threshold from the minute I walked in. Once in room 106, a king suite, I felt the mugginess from outside… inside the room. The room felt damp, as if there had been a flood and the carpet was still drying out. It was cool in temperature but felt damp.
The shower door barely slid across the track and the door on the right wouldn’t move at all. As I was showering the water pressure would hit the shower door, the one where the hand rail was falling off inside, and as it hit gobs of black bacteria were coming off with the pressure hitting it. Once I looked down I was able to see lots of the «pink bacteria» growing in the shower track. So much for feeling «squeaky clean».
To add to the distaste there are multiple stains all over the extra chair in the room. I don’t even want to know what was on there.
For as much as I paid for the room I am extremely disappointed. I am a Hilton honors member and always stay in Hampton Inns for my business trips.
I guess I need to find a new Wilmington stay.

Cons first: double beds and bathrooms are extremely small. AC is very loud and staff was a bit confused when checking us in. Curtains did not close properly in room.
Pros: Very nice pool and proximity to the beach, free breakfast and free parking.
I’d personally look into a vacation rental considering the abundance in the vicinity and the price instead. That being said, there is nothing majorly wrong or unappealing about this particular hampton, it’s A ok and just a tad dated.

This place is off the beaten path but still close to everything. The ambiance is nice and inviting. Breakfast has healthy choices. Clean rooms and larger than normal space for a 2 star Hotel. Very accommodating for Hilton Honors guests. Not the hotels fault at all, but I need to come when the pool is open and I have this amazing view. A heated pool for the winter would be nice… Maybe

I have to echo the disappointment voiced by many of my fellow Unilocalers — I arrived for a one night stay on business with high hopes, and unfortunately had them dashed.
Before we get all doom and gloom, though, here are some positives:
— Location: This is the Hampton closest to the beach, and it happens to be across the street from a coterie of stores anchored by a full sized Harris Teeter. Handy!
— The grounds themselves are nice — the hotel is tucked back, and not near a main drag that would doom you to road noise. The outside is well landscaped and neat, and there’s plenty of parking.
— The lobby area is really well maintained, and the fireplace makes is downright cozy on a chilly evening.
— The staff is very attentive and willing to go the extra mile. The gentleman who checked me in was cheerful, and more than willing to accommodate a not-​so-​ordinary request (he stored a couple of items in the kitchen fridge and freezer for me overnight).
— The room itself was as clean as I would expect it to be. Hamptons tend to be, but I feel like the cleanliness factor bears mentioning given the rest of what’s coming…
Now… the unavoidable negatives. For all the niceness of the lobby, grounds, and staff, the room itself left quite a bit to be desired.
— Yes, it had the requisite granite surfaces as in most Hampton Inns, but… the lighting, particularly in the bathroom, was harsh, and the towels like sandpaper.
— Recurring sandpaper theme: The sheets varied between normal (the fitted), soft (the flat) and face-​exfoliating rough (the pillowcases). I did not request a facial while I slept, therefore, it was rather unwelcome, leaving me pink-​cheeked and annoyed.
— Speaking of the pillows, I’m not super-​pillow-​picky, but it was impossible to find a comfortable set up with those things! No combination of pillows, method of smooshing, or amount of prayer was helping. No bueno.
— I’m relatively sure a couple of the springs in the bed were excited to see me. Or broken, and therefore bulging into my back/​hip. Whatever.
— The LOUD air conditioner/​heater mounted beneath the window made it virtually impossible to a) hear oneself think, b) hear the television/​phone/​whatever method of diversion, and c) find a reasonable temperature for the room. The antiquated system has no thermostat, so you can’t just pick your happy place and roll with it — you have to choose between a dribble of warm air, converting your room into a convection oven, a dribble of quasi-​cool air, or your personal icy tundra. Or nothing. We only deal in extremes here. I ended up leaving it off the whole night (it’s December, by the by) and relying upon the bedding to keep me warm-​ish.
— If I’m ever lost in a dark cave, I want the alarm clock from this room to illuminate my path. Didn’t enjoy it while I was trying to sleep, though. I had to face it down on the nightstand.
So, will I be returning to this Hampton location? Not until a gut-​renovation and new HVAC installation occurs. I have to agree with the other Unilocaler who said this was the worst Hampton experience she’d had. It’s a bummer, because the location and staff are great (and they are the ONLY reason this isn’t a 1-​star deal)… but at the end of the day, if I wasn’t able to sleep (I legitimately got about 3 hours due to all the discomfort), then what was the point of the stay?

This was the worst Hampton Inn we have ever stayed at. Our hopes were high as the hotel was nestled into a nice area right off the main road, the lobby was beautiful, and the staff during check-​in was extremely friendly. However, our room on the 3^rd floor was apparently made of paper thin walls. We were able to hear the guest next to us on his cell phone… and were able to hear the other end of the conversation as well, plain as day.
In the morning we were woken up by kids running the hallways and the family in the other room next to ours packing and chatting.
Now while I fully understand that we cannot expect complete silence in a hotel, to be able to hear both sides of a cell phone conversation through the walls was a bit much.
Breakfast was nice in the morning and the room was fine… but we would not recommend this Hampton Inn location to anyone looking for a peaceful evening.

Place was a mess. Painting the elevators on a Sat. When the hotel was packed. :/
Pool was very poor maintained leaves everywhere spider web’s and a wasp nest.
Could not sit out without thinks something was going to bite. The gentleman at the front not hospitable seemed as if he was bothered.
The other lady in the front was very pleasant informative and had an over all good personality.
The king size bed which at the time looked comfy had a huge dent in the middle. You had to drag yourself out of it. Poor quality!!!
Disappointing for this are…

We stayed one night at the Hampton Inn, and I would definitely stay there again! While it’s a good 15 – 20 min to the beach, the hotel was very clean and accommodating & extremely well priced. Our room had 2 queens, and the beds were pretty comfy. I slept good except for being woken up by the refrigerator (that I requested) humming loudly. The bathroom was clean & ample. There is an outdoor pool, gym, and large lobby area. The complimentary breakfast was yummy & they offered a wide range of choices, from waffles to biscuits & gravy. There is a Wild Wings restaurant in the parking lot that had kids meals for 1.99, which was great since we traveled with an entire 9 yr old baseball team. There is also a Kohls in the same parking lot, in case you only bring your cleats & forget your shoes (as my son did!).
All in all, clean & affordable & I’d definitely return!

Why yes this place will be where we stay if ever in Wilmington again. It was close 15 – 20 minutes from Wrightsville Beach. The room was a little small but we also didn’t get a suite or anything. The amenities included sealed the deal when we were looking for a place to stay. The free breakfast and free internet were a big plus. Though it was a pain to have to connect devices to the WiFi network daily (read multiple laptops and tablets) The flat screen was just the right size. The linens were great. The bathroom looked like it had been recently updated as well.
The breakfast area got a little cramped with guests but that is too be expected at between 8 – 9 am or so when everyone is just waking up. I again, the non pork eater would have loved to see a non pork breakfast meat there, but I the picky eater can not be mad because of my dietary restrictions.
With young children I took advantage of the pool which was nice and clean. We were out there late one night and had a little difficulty finding towels though. I chalked it up to it being close to 10 and the little shack that the towls were most likely kept in being closed.
Onsite laundry was a nice touch, though I would have loved to have more than one washer and dryer. I ended up washing 2 loads of clothes and it took me a few hours cause the dryer was painfully slow. I took my laptop down and watched a movie while I was waiting. There was a nice kitchenette sized table and a chair that I was able to use.
We did have one issue, We had ants in our room. Being on the 3^rd floor you would think that this wouldn’t have been possible but, it was a thing. There were not enough to really complain about but they were there. They were around the A/​C unit and not all over the room gladly though.
Sidebar: While we were there the HBO Series «Eastbound and Down» was filming on location the show crew seemed very nice and tried to stay out of the regular hotel guests way. No I didn’t get to meet Danny McBride… I guess «I was F*CKING out!»
Bottom line: Just as I started the review if ever back we will be back there.

We picked the hotel because it was both closest to our client’s office and within the job’s travel budget. Our pre-​production staffer had scouted the place and gave it a thumbs up. It was easy to park our equipment truck. The room was fine and and the staff fast and friendly. And, nothing beats the smell of salt air. Glad we found such a nice place so close to the water as well.

One of the nicer Hamptons that I have stayed at! As Hamptons go, this is a 5 star! Quaint location and landscaping gives it a feel of a much higher end hotel. Very convenient to the beach and many good restaurants nearby.
The price was one of the cheaper rates for Hamptons in the area which was surprising. This location features a nice pool which has a pool bar that opens at certain times during the season. I have never a Hampton with a pool bar! The lobby was very nice and also had a bar which opens in the evening for drinks… again, rather unusual for a Hampton! A small necessity shop is maintained next to the lobby counter as well. I stayed on the 4^th floor and it appears that they suffered some water damage from heavy rain the night prior. Fans were being used in the hallway to dry out the carpet.
I would definetly recommend this location.

The pool had assorted inflatable toys including a whale and dolphin.
It was close to the beach. We wouldn’t have walked but the drive was less than five minutes.
Normally I don’t read USA Today but there was something nice about hanging out in their lobby, eating complimentary breakfast and reading the paper.
