My partner and I both ordered the king cut prime rib with a few variations to the sides. They were both delicious! I got two meals out of mine feeling completely stuffed both times. Service was great. It was our anniversary so we were looking for something more upscale however, it does have a little bit of an «old» look to it. The crab stuffed mushroom appetizer was absolutely to die for! Very pricey dinner but worth the money for a good meal out you can’t find many other places in Wilmington.

This place is disgusting. I found two dead bug’s in my Caesar salad and when I pointed it out to the manager his response was«We definitely try to make sure our dishes are clean.» Now I understand bugs can happen in a kitchen, but that wasn’t about clean dishes, that was either not washing your lettuce properly or pre-making your salads and having them sit out so bugs can enter the bowl. Then after I said that the manager started to yell at me! So unprofessional, needless to say I am never eating there again. Also I looked them up on the department of public health website and they’ve had several violations in the past years. DONOTEATHERE! Overpriced and dirty!

Steaks are not that good. Thin cuts, not flavorful. Harrys has better prime rib and even the standard chains have better standard cuts. Side dishes were underwhelming and the dessert was just not good. Years ago we used to come here regularly and look forward to it, not any longer.

Best word to describe is «meh»… The hotel recommended Walter’s when I asked where I could get a good steak and a spicy Bloody Mary. They said it was one of the best steak places in Wilmington. It was on the level of Outback at best and that isn’t really a good thing. Maybe my expectations were set too high. The drink was good. The mix was spicy and they added a good amount of alcohol. So my meal started on the right foot. The meatball appetizer was good; just a little over cooked, kinda burnt on the outside. My steak was tender so a good grade of meat but the flavor was just blah. I almost asked for steak sauce. That kind of blah. I ordered a side of asparagus because I love asparagus! However, it was severely overcooked and limp. It looked overcooked so it should have NEVER made it to me! It was as if they boiled some frozen asparagus. For the price, I expect more. It wasn’t some cheap spot. I ate the steak and left what used to be a vegetable. All in all… would I go back? No. Would I recommend it? No. I have been to other places nearby with much better results. But if it is raining cats and dogs outside, you had a long day, and you just want a meal and a drink to relax then this is ok.

I can’t say better things about this wonderful restaurant. The steak is superb — delivered with perfect sides and peppercorn sauce. Thank you for having this on your menu and thank you for your decent wine list. I will be back. And I will bring others from interstate and international destinations with we, next we need somewhere good and classy to eat and enjoy

A friend recommended this to me and we went out to dinner there one night. I have to say, this is my favorite steakhouse in Delaware. The prices really aren’t bad for the quality and size of the steak. The service is outstanding, definitely seasoned waiters who know their stuff. I usually always go with the 16 ounce New York Strip and I’m never disappointed. I can’t wait to go back again.

Wife & I went a few nights back. At first I was hoping we weren’t going to be let down from the rave reviews and friends recommendations to come here when we weren’t greeted by a host. We waited for about a minute until a polite man came and greeted us(in a chef shirt). I was thinking he must be the head chef doing 2 jobs, being polite enough to explain where the host was, assuring us we’d be seated ASAP. The hostess came shortly after and sat us. Kevin our waiter was great. He made recommendations on the wine, my steak etc. All were spot on. He was very friendly & attentive. The man in the Chef shirt came back out with our wine, showed it, opened it etc. After pouring our glasses we came to learn his name was John. and was the owner. He explained his middle name is Walter and named the place after it. He stopped by periodically and saying he made us feel welcomed is an understatement. The food… Kevin recommended the Del Monte steak(may be spelling this wrong), SOGOOD. My wife had the prime rib(which its known for) and that was perfect as well. I can’t wait to come back and will recommend everyone to come here!

This IS what a steak house should be. Tender flavorful steaks, seafood and the BEST prime rib in the area. Great atmosphere but the beer and wine selection could be improved. Don’t forget the banana foster !!

Walter’s is a great steakhouse. The food was delicious! I ordered their prime rib and it was fantastic. The twice baked potatoes almost send you over the edge. They are rich and seasoned perfectly. The owner was even walking around introducing himself to tables. The staff was very helpful and quick. The ambience of the restaurant is charming. I was very pleased with my visit and if passing through again would be happy to stop in again!

Went for a work event and was completely blown away by the food and by the wonderful service. The team went above and beyond for us! I personally tried the wedge salad, the Delmonico steak, crab imperial, potato au gratin, various sides, and the chocolate mousse cake. Each item was absolutely delicious. Outstanding meal!

My boyfriend and I go to Walters quite often. I love it every time! We try to go on the nights that offer the raw bar! We went lastnight and had the BEST service we have ever had there(or anywhere actually). He was so personable and fun! If you go… ask if Kevin is working!

I love this restaurant! The steaks and fish are equally good — perfectly cooked and very tasty. Plenty of elbow room, white table cloths, and good service. Andre the server is terrific!

Walter’s is a Wilmington institution, and a great local steakhouse that has managed to persist in an age when chains like Ruth’s Chris, Morton’s, and the Capital Grille have run other similar establishments out of business. There’s a reason it’s still around — excellent food, personable service, a tremendously good wine list, and a classic, intimate atmosphere give it the feel of being the«nice» restaurant in a small town. Wilmington has developed a fairly respectable dining scene over the past few years with the opening of some trendy new establishments, but Walter’s still jockeys with the best of them and remains, in my opinion, the area’s benchmark for steak. I’ve dined at Walter’s on multiple occasions, so I’ll pass on detailing any single meal and provide some blanket assessments. At the heart of any steakhouse menu is of course the steak, and in this case it does not disappoint. All of Walter’s cuts are very high quality, and their prime rib selection in particular is worthy of praise. I have comparably less experience with their seafood, though I’ve never been disappointed in either the shrimp cocktails or lump crab meat. Sides and salads are your standard steakhouse selection, with everything ranging from iceberg wedges doused in a pint of blue cheese to potatoes fried, baked, and twice baked in a number of configurations. Deserts are also what you’d expect — crème brûlée, cheesecake, chocolate heart-stoppers. Everything on the menu is very good. The wine list, however, is the real hidden gem of this establishment. Extensive and generally well priced, there’s something excellent available for every taste and budget. If you know your wine, paging through and choosing for the table will be a treat. The wait staff also has a lot of experience, and many of them have clearly been there for years. They know how to treat people well, and I have yet to encounter anything but professional, courteous conduct from those who have serviced tables for me. Moreover, Walter’s can be a relatively good value. There are weekly deals and prixe fixe menus available on most evenings, making it affordable even for those who are not looking to spend a fortune. They also occasionally feature impressive tasting menus(with alcohol included). Walter’s even has its own dining points program, which can pay dividends if you visit often enough. In short, Walter’s is a traditional steakhouse. There’s nothing trendy or experimental about it, so if you want to eat miniature gourmet versions of junk food, or deconstructed, pipette-delivered anything then look elsewhere. This restaurant applies a tried and true formula and it does so extremely well. There are a few nitpicks that I should mention — the food presentation is spartan, even for a steakhouse, and the music in the reception area is conspicuously of the elevator variety(giving the wrong impression when you walk in). But the bottom line is that I’ve gotten nothing but satisfying meals with great service every time I’ve gone there.

One of the previous reviewer wrote«awkward» and now I understand. It was clean and nice but dated and expected. The waiter was nice yet odd. Looks like he was a seasoned waiter that had been there for years yet he had to go and ask the chef what Chicken Piccante was.(OK, i was testing him, but really… Chicken Piccante has been chicken in a white wine sauce with lemon and capers since the beginning of time folks!) We went for the Prix Fixe Menu for $ 30.00 per person. I will take you course by course. 1st Course ~ My Ceasar Salad was barely chopped romaine lettuce, mounds of bottled dressing and a heavy sprinkling of cheese with a few soggy croutons. Husband’s was a cup of overprocessed lobster bisque that was OBVIOUSLY from a can and reheated. 2nd Course ~ We both got the NY Strip. It was cooked right but was a bit tough for my liking. Here’s the kicker — NOSEASONING. I mean NOTHING. Does the chef not realize that Salt and Pepper are the cornerstone of seasoning in a kitchen? Everything should be lightly seasoned, at the least. 2nd kicker — the side of mushrooms and side of asparagus HADNOSEASONINGEITHER!!! Really? 3rd Course — My bread pudding was a pre-molded gob of sad looking bread pudding.(it read«Banana bread pudding, but I could not find the banana). Wasn’t even warm. Had a spray of redi-whip with some raisins thrown on top. Three bites in and I was done.(and if you have read my other reviews, you know I am a dessert crazy person!) My husband’s key lime pie was artificial and sour. The bread was good. And lastly, my husband ordered a Blue Moon Beer, which comes with a slice of orange on the glass… His orange slice was shriveled up and dry. I was so tempted to take a picture but thought that might be in poor taste. Not a way to start the meal. So $ 60.00 for our meals and extra for 2 coffees, a beer and an extra order of asparagus with tip came to $ 91.00. Have had better meals for less. Disappointed and Got a serious«creepy» vibe from the place. I agree with my previous reviewer Torin M… awkward!
