Fantastic food and service. I had a skirt steak that was unbelievable. It was cooked perfectly. They accidentally gave me sautéed kale and oh my goodness it was so good. I never would have believed kale would be something I would enjoy. If you ate in this area or simply want to travel for awesome food then get over to this restaurant as quickly as possible. Lest I forget, my wife had the chicken pot pie and it was also fantastic.

Small scale quiet deli with excellent food, atmosphere and service. Outside seating for sunny days. We really enjoyed this place.

Can’t say enough. Great prices. Great family service. Amazing food. Relaxed Atmosphere. I love food from haute to low but I do love a great value for awesome food. Thank you to the great folk for the wonderful evening. My perfect choice!

Food was delicious and their organic farm to table business model is both admirable, and memorable. Plan to be back for another pot pie in the future.

My husband and I came out here last night for his birthday dinner. We’d been meaning to go for a long time but hadn’t, more’s the pity. We’ve been missing out.
We made reservations for 7:30 and were promptly seated. Our meal was perfect in every way from start to finish. We had the appetizer special of the baked stuffed oysters and they were outstanding. The oysters weren’t over cooked and rubbery, they still had their texture, and the filling was divine. We each got the NY Strip with roasted asparagus and mashed potatoes, steaks medium rare.
Have mercy. They were perfectly cooked, the seasoning was just right, the char crust on the outside was just there enough to feel it, taste it, then melt away into the steak. We haven’t had steaks of this quality in a long, long time. We were both also happy that our sides weren’t neglected afterthoughts as they are at so many restaurants. The asparagus was lovely (I mean, really, when isn’t asparagus lovely) and crisp tender and the mashed potatoes were delicious.
We finished with coffee and asked for a cheese plate for our dessert, on which we got a gouda, a tomme, and a blue. My husband ate all the blue (that’s his favorite), and we ended up taking home a wedge of the tomme we liked it so much! (Hooray farm to table, since the cheeses are for sale on site!)
Our waiter was a real sweetheart, was attentive without being overbearing, was happy to answer any questions we had, and we never at any point felt rushed or hurried even though we had a very leisurely dinner. I wish I’d caught his name, I feel bad that I didn’t. And yes, folks, this little place is not cheap! But it’s entirely worth it. I would happily pay that bill again to have another dining experience like that. I hardly get that type of experience in NOVA, so to have it out here in Winchester is so so nice. We also love supporting our local businesses and agriculture so this is a great opportunity to do both.

The reviews on Unilocal led me here for my last dinner on a cross country drive. The Butcher Station is a true gem. If you’re from the area and haven’t stopped by yet, I would highly encourage you to do so, as soon as possible. If you’re passing through like I was — this is a most excellent choice.
The interior is casual classy with about a dozen tables and a few bar stools that overlook an open kitchen. I sat at the bar, where the owner was the person I interacted with the most. She is super friendly and passionate about her restaurant, which made my visit a complete pleasure. The two gentlemen who were waiting tables were also very engaging and friendly and also chatted with me a bit throughout my visit as well as serving at the bar too. Great service is always a reason for return visits in my book, and the Butcher Station has that, and then some. Almost, if not every, item they serve is locally sourced, fresh and homemade. This is a practice that I wish would become more prevalent everywhere as it not only helps support other area businesses but also results in higher quality food on the table.
The baked stuffed oyster appetizer had an outstanding flavor profile that immediately had me wishing for more. They are stuffed with asiagio, spinach and fennel and are a real treat. I went with the marinated steak skewers since meats on sticks are awesome. The steak was ultra tender, super flavorful, and melted in my mouth. The salad was fresh, crispy goodness and the baby bok choy was cooked perfectly with a nice snap in each bite. I went with the cheesecake for dessert and was happy I did. It was rich and creamy with a raspberry sauce that topped it off perfectly. I’m terrible at choosing beers, so I went with the sampler flight and enjoyed each of the local brews.
If I’m ever passing through Winchester again, The Butcher Station is on my list of musts. If you live within 50 miles, consider a special trip — it’s that special!

Hidden Treasure in Winchester, VA — outstanding farm to table food. Wonderful selections the grill cheese was the best I ever had topped with smokey bacon, tomato and wonderful homemade bread. It is worth the wait!

Nailed it! Our first time eating here. Went here for a Valentines Day dinner. We weren’t sure what to expect but we were very pleasantly surprised. What a great meal! Highly recommend it. Fresh delicious food and fantastic service.

We had our first dinner here as man and wife. My in laws called ahead and ordered us a bottle of champagne with a nice little note. This was our first experience with farm to table. It did not disappoint. We had the loaded fries to start and the wife is not a huge beef fan but she housed the fries they were delicious. I ordered the ribeye and the texture and the taste was succulent the meat melted in my mouth the steak was not over seasoned letting me enjoy the natural flavor of the meat. My wife had the kabobs and she let me try a piece just a half a piece because the meat was so good. It was a crazy experience in my mouth acidic citrus explosion with rosemary and thyme just amazing. The garlic mash disappeared before I knew it and even though I was full I couldn’t let the kelp sit on my plate it was just to good. Excellent experience the service was amazing and the food was great.

Honestly, my husband and I were headed to Carrabas, but couldn’t even find a spot in the parking lot! We are fairly new to this area and I had noticed a few restaurants in the area so we decided on The Butchers Station. We were pleasantly surprised at the small intimate atmosphere and welcoming staff. I am vegetarian and was a little nervous that I wouldn’t find much on the menu that I would want to eat. (It’s named The Butchers Station after all). Every once in a while I will eat seafood, so I went outside my normal box and tried the shrimp and grits with a side roasted beets. My husband had a Swiss melt burger with fries and cucumber/​onion salad. Everything was fresh and delicious. The shrimp wasspicy but paired nicely with the polenta grits. For drinks I had a sparkling rose brut wine and my husband had bottled yuengling. While we spent a little more than we may have at Carrabas I felt that the food we had was worth the price. I recommended this place to my daughter right away. It’s a nice special occasion spot or even when you want a meal that’s out of the ordinary. I suggest you give this place a try!

Yep! Finally a place in Winchester that is utilizing the farms in the area! Fresh food! Great simple dinners! Moderately healthy too! I always wait with anticipation to hear what veggie sides they have that evening! If I had to choose between going for lunch or dinner, I would choose dinner. There is more variety!
I’ve also done their farm boxes, they were very accommodating to someone who can drink milk or have bread! They switched out my milk and bread for more cheese and meat! Very friendly staff! Good for a simple, fresh meal!

Outstanding! Everything we ordered was so good. Loved the shrimp cocktail so much I bought some more cocktail sauce to bring home. My burger was soooooo juicy and flavorful and my girlfriend’s cuban was fantastic too. I don’t get to Winchester much, but when I do get back, I’ll be making a bee-​line to The Butcher Station.

Great place. Been here a few times and they were very good. If you are into supporting local then this is then place to be for sure. The atmosphere I think is very relaxing and also very welcoming.
They have a good wine and beer selection and a menu with what should cover everyone’s bases. The service is very attentive and friendly but also doesn’t bug the shit out of you. It’s going to cost you around $ 100 for two of you with drinks but you are paying for what you get! If you want cheap food from an unknown source there’s always Chilis.

Went Saturday based on Unilocal reviews. Our first choice in Old Town was closed, so we ventured here. We didn’t have a reservation, but luckily there was a table for us.
You know you’re in for a treat when the owner of the restaurant (Sandy) is taking care of your table. This restaurant embodies the idea of farm to table. Everything is local (nothing further than PA) and it sure tastes that way. The local cheeses were fantastic (especially the goat cheese!), and the food was prepared simply, but deliciously.
You also know a restaurant is worth their weight when they bring you coffee in French presses instead of from a drip pot.
Dinner for two with a bottle of wine, a four cheese plate and two entrees retailed for around $ 100. You may find this slightly expensive, but you’re paying for an experience… And Sandy made this an experience for us. Highly recommended. Ask for Sandy.

My family and I were traveling home to Long Island from a vacation in Asheville, North Carolina and stopped overnight in Winchester. After searching for a farm to table restaurant on Unilocal we found The Butcher Station. As soon as we walked in we were treated as if we were family! Sandy the owner was so informative and passionately describing where they source each ingredient for the wonderful dishes on their menu!
We thoroughly enjoyed each dish! The wine was from the Napa Valley and was a perfect addition to our meal! The juicy grass fed burger, the comforting chicken pot pie, the amazing grass fed steak were all delicious! The crab cakes were FULL of crab and not weighed down with lots of breadcrumbs! The sides were delicious on their own, and the house baked bread was heavenly! We wish this gem wasn’t a 6 hour drive from Long Island otherwise we would make it there routinely for weekly visits! Thank you for making the last night of our trip a fabulous one!

I really like the concept of this restaurant being farm to table. The restaurant has more like a little country diner feel. But the prices are NOT country diner prices. We had the T-​bone steak it was $ 38 before tax. (They don’t put the price on the menu.) The steak came with two sides – french fries and squash. don’t get me wrong, there was nothing really bad about it but I could have grilled myself a better steak at home for less than half that price. The steak had good flavor but was very tough and hard to cut. If it had been aged or rested at all I would be surprised.

The reviews made us think this place was going to be great. The pictures looked yummy so we tried it. The bread and oil were a nice touch and the service was swift. The beer recomendation was on point and yes they give you real coca-​cola! Extra points. Had a bacon swiss melt and paella. Let be clear you do get what you pay for in portion size but that being said the food was mediocre. I really want to say better but I think in this case it is what it is.

This was a Unilocalster find and as with every other restaurant I find through Unilocal,The Butcher Station was nothing to look at on the inside BUT THE FOOD WAS UNBELIEVABLE!!! Having just had a great meal at a nearby restaurant at Hillbrook Inn I was trying to find a nice place to eat that offered the best in cuisine. I found it and it beats anything found in downtown Winchester where the old money chooses to eat… too bad for them and great for the rest of us because if they ever find out about this place you could never get reservations.
As I said the atmosphere is more like a deli and it is very small so you may want to call ahead for reservations. We came on Wed night ready for good eats.
My wife ordered the nightly steak special, a ribeye 12 oz, and the potatoes gratin with carrots. This steak was prepared to perfection — medium and not a bit more. It was tender and not over spiced. I got to have a little bit and it was as good as I make at home on my IR grill. The potatoes were creamy and the carrots were braised with hickory syrup. WOW. What a great combination. Nothing to complain about except that she got too full too fast.
I had the sea scallops. My favorite seafood when prepared correctly, and these definitely were. They were fresh, flavorful, braised to perfection and served with lemon wedge. Fork tender, tasty, and 6 large scallops. I had the salad as well with an Italian vinaigrette that was light and flavorful. I also had the carrots and they were wonderful.
The wait staff was pleasant but as there were only 6 or 7 tables she was busy but not too busy to check back every so often.
We came in at 7:30 pm and were done by 8:45 pm and everyone else was gone. We had the chance to chat with the chef and he was very informative as to his training and thought about how to prepare food for the best flavor. It was pleasant and refreshing to find such a hole in the wall place that serves such good food.
I read most of the reviews and thought some of them were pretentious as they were dissatisfied with service or the ambience, when you go to a restaurant for the food. Trust me if you have read my reviews I don’t hold back when I don’t get good service or the food is just so-​so.

On Good Friday, my boyfriend (Adam) and I decided to try something new in Winchester, and we landed here for a late lunch. This was my first farm-​to-​table experience, and I am pleased with the results.
Atmosphere: It is clear while you are there, that you are in a farm-​to-​table restaurant. The sources for their meats, dairy, etc are listed on a blackboard on the wall. They have grocery items for sale from local places, including a large display cooler with a giant pan of their house-​made italian sausage (part of the day’s special). In terms of décor there were a few nice touches and finishes to show they had tried. Overall the place seemed unfinished, but it was clear that this was not a focal point for them.
Food: This was their focus. And they did a great job.
Good-​sized selection of beer and wine. A few taps, bottles, and wine by the glass for most options. I had a glass of pinot grigio. It was ice cold and tasty, just what I wanted. The price seemed pretty standard to me. For the beer, I would have liked to have seen more diversity. It was almost entirely IPA. Maybe it is a seasonal thing, still there should have been some more diversity given the variety available locally. Non-​alcoholic beverage options weren’t scarce either. Adam’s soda was in a little 8 oz glass coke bottle.
Thanks to another reviewer, we had their buffalo wings with house made blue cheese sauce as an appetizer. The wings were juicy with crispy skin and were in a sauce that was big on flavor, not just heat. We liked the blue cheese dip so much that we kept it for our main dish to dip our fries in.
Adam had their Cowboy Burger — It had BBQ sauce and pulled pork on top and was cooked medium rare. SUPER juicy and messy, but big on flavor; the combination worked well. He was happy with its preparation but said he would probably order it medium next time to contain the juiciness a bit. I had their Beef and Arugula Sandwich. Beef was cooked medium, tender, and sliced thin enough to cut through with teeth. It had great flavor. The horseradish mayo played well with the arugula, the muenster cheese and onion played supporting roles, not standing out much, but important for the overall success. The bread was not toasted, a choice I probably would not have made if I were building the sandwich at home, but I ended up being pleased with it. It let the fresh bread stand out and made it easier to manage the sandwich to limit the messiness.
Their sides were given equal attention to the mains (love to see that). The hand-​cut fries are reminiscent of Five Guys fries, though not in such crazy quantities. I bet they would be good with malt vinegar, but they were great dipped in blue cheese dressing :) Steamed sugar snap peas were SO fresh, crispy and delicious. I didn’t remember to try my sandwich until I had eaten half of them. Adam had their Orzo Salad; it tasted like an Italian pasta salad, but with more moderation on the vinegar/​seasoning.
We also had to get dessert, because they had housemade lemon pound cake with sliced strawberries and vanilla ice cream. It was excellent — not too sweet, kind of dense compared to a typical pound cake, but the lemon got to steal the show, and Trickling Springs makes great ice cream to support it. The strawberries could have been better. I like them freshly sliced rather than pre-​sliced then macerated, but maybe that is just me.
Coffee was AWESOME!!! French press, Happy Creek Ethiopian — the nuttiness stood out; there was very little bitterness and it had a nice clean finish. I got cream with it, but forgot to use it for the first half of the press. Then I decided I had to appreciate the local cream too and added it. Yes, it made it even better.
Here is the overlaying theme to their food — a focus on the ingredients. It means they pay attention to where the food comes from, and then they let it shine. NO oversalting! This is a HUGE win in my book. The dessert wasn’t overly sweet either. Then they pair the ingredients together in great ways. Kudos to you guys. Keep up the good work.

This place has stellar reviews and now I know why. I am so happy to see a farm-​to-​table restaurant succeeding in making delicious and fresh food.
We had the shrimp, crab legs, soup of the day and steak fries appetizers and chicken pot pies for dinner.
The shrimp were very fresh and perfectly cooked. The crab legs were scrumptious (but it’s hard to mess those up). Steak fries were legit! The soup was a broth based shrimp and vegetable and it lacked salt. Actually I found a lot of the food lacked salt, but I think that’s a personal preference so that’s why I’m still giving five stars.
The pot pies were flakey and delicious, heavy on the rosemary so if you don’t like rosemary I wouldn’t suggest it.
I also tried their local cider, very tasty. Over all a solid, fresh, fantastic meal. It is definitely a small restaurant so it might be beneficial to make a reservation on a weekend.
