Tri-State Materials

I had already spent several thousand dollars on flagstone and 500# boulders when I went to order thousands in very nice rock. My contractor gets a small discount. I called the day before to see if my contractor needed to be there in person when I placed my order. I was told that he didn’t need to be there and just let them know his name to apply the discount. This made sense, normally when I selected materials they gave me estimates with his discount and he was never with me.
So I went the next day to order a couple of thousand dollars in rock. When I asked to apply his discount I was told by the man behind the desk that wouldn’t be done because my contractor wasn’t there. I explained I called ahead of time yesterday and it was confirmed that this would be fine. I had never seen him in the office or dealt with him before (perhaps they were short on staff that day). He gave lame deceptive reasons about protecting contractors as to why this couldn’t be done. There is no reason giving a discount can harm a contractor because you aren’t seeing any of their account info and you are paying in full yourself. He finished his explanation with this, «you can complain all you want and it won’t change anything because I am the owner». I am an understanding person. He could have just apologized that I was given the wrong information and said but unfortunately that is their policy. We were luckily able to get my contractor on the phone to verbally approve (and it seemed he knew him well enough to know his voice). I ended up making the purchase out of obligation to the fact we needed to get this done as other steps required the rock being placed first.
I am disappointed the owner was rude, narcissistic, unprofessional and ungrateful. Normally small business owners treat their customers with the highest respect and consideration. I gave his business several thousand over the course of two months. I will do future business else where. I’d rather support a business where the owner values their customers and respects them. To be clear, it wasn’t their mistake of bad information that ruined it for me… but how he handled it.
If you consider shopping there and anything goes wrong just remember «you can complain all you want and it won’t change anything because I am the owner.» This was a small simple incident but how would he handle something like their delivery truck taking out your prized plants or hitting your home. What if they damage your truck while loading it…“you can complain all you want and it won’t change anything because I am the owner.”

I gave a girl over the phone my measurements and she said I would need 3 ½ yards of material. When my husband went to Tristate to order it there they told him he needed 4 ½ yards of material. We ended up with the extra yard left over and at $ 97.50 a yard that is a lot of wasted money. The rock we purchased «desert gold» was so full of sand it was ridiculous. When I called to discuss the issues the man who answered the phone was very short and very rude. He told me that it is what it is and it just comes from the quarry that way. I asked them how come they charge the same amount for this rock as the others when they know half of it is dirt. He told me it requires excessive washing and that we needed to do that. We are putting rock in for drought tolerance, we shouldn’t have to use an excessive amount of water just to clean off what they could have sifted out. We are currently working with several landscapers on our project and each looked at the rock and said it was ridiculous and each of the them knew automatically where we got the rock from because this is a common problem with Tristate. If you want to go with rock go somewhere else. If you want dirt then buy their rock and you should be just fine.

Terrific prices, prompt delivery and a wide variety of materials.
I was a bit nervous driving out to this venue by myself– I was not familiar with the area.
All worked out great and I would recommend Tri State Materials :-)

This place is a joke! I only rated 1 star because negative stars don’t exist on Unilocal.I did not get what I paid for. The guy was completely arrogant, rude, and demeaning. Will NEVER refer nor use this ridiculous company again. All these reviews must be related to him by family because I did not receive any of the treatment nor service they describe. I will also be contacting the BBB to report this so called «company.» Don’t waste your time or money.
To the owner,
I highly recommend you go back to what your mother taught you when you were young such as manners. Calling a lady aka your paying customer a «bitch» simply because I requested a refund or a better job on what I’ve paid for shows the lack of class you have. Being a business owner, I would hope you know the importance of customer service and how word of mouth travels faster than any of your efforts combined. I will make sure of it.

No bias here! Not a relative or an employee, just a customer who was EXTREMELY satisfied with the material selection, customer service, knowledge and professionalism.
My husband and I had NO idea what we were doing when we walked on the yard. We were redoing our entire backyard from scratch. Flagstone walkways, built-​in BBQ, fire pit, etc. We found TriState Materials by a web search and decided to stop by. From the moment we got there we were impressed. Everyone was really helpful and informative.
After 2 visits, we finally decided on our materials! Suetta put together our order and helped with EVERY little detail, as far as even walking us through our own measurements to make sure we were calculating everything correctly!
Our order was delivered exactly as it was supposed to, exactly when they promised. Thanks to Suetta, and the whole team at TriState, our order was exact and our backyard is even more perfect than we had imagined!
We would use TriState a million times over and we would recommend them to everyone! If you are looking for materials, from sand to stone to river rock, this is your place! I promise you will not be disappointed!

So happy with the two very large Honey Quartz boulders we just had delivered. We picked them out about five weeks ago, and although I was nervous whether the two boulders we had chosen would be the same that got delivered after so many weeks, there was no need to worry. Our two unique boulders we picked out over a month ago arrived safely yesterday. It was a bit of a difficult install and it was actually the drivers first large boulder install, but he did a great job and there was no damage to our planter. Both he and the other installer were great, fast, and accomodated my pickiness about the exact placement of each boulder. I’m super happy with the service and the products I received from Tri-​State Materials and look forward to working with them again when we get to the backyard landscaping!

We came here shopping some flagstone and ended up with a great deal. They had exactly what we were looking for at the right price. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. Definitely a place to check out if your looking for stone.

Had some issues measuring out the area for the rocks. My husband was right, and we needed more then 4 yards. I talked to the folks at Tristate, and we felt that maybe my husband was over estimating. Well, we were wrong! I called Tri-​state back and told them that we needed more river rock, and they are covering the delivery fees and working with me with the DG that we will be ordering in the future. I can honestly say they have been SUPER helpful, and I appreciate the great customer service

The other two reviewers must be family or friends. My husband and I went in to get prices on rock for our back yard and they wanted close to double of what we can buy the same product for in Hemet at Superior.
I have no bias, just a customer that felt like I was trying to be taken advantage of!
