HARP

My experience could not have been better. Our a/​c went out recently on a hot humid weekend. HARP responded with a service call same day and had the problem diagnosed repaired and working within a few hours. Tech Paul was efficient prompt and knowledgeable. Work and parts bill was more than fair and reasonable especially for a holiday. Do not hesitate to use this company. Highly recommended.

Heat went out this morning. There was no sign of glowing igniter through the little view window as the gas furnace kept trying to start. Despite the very mixed reviews (either outstanding or poor) I decided to give HARP a call even though I was not a previous customer of theirs. The phone rep was courteous and said that they could send someone out the next afternoon; when I reminded her that we had no heat, she said she would try to get a serviceman out that day. After putting me a briefly on hold, she was able to confirm that someone would be out in about an hour; I consider that to be very good service. She told me that the charge for the diagnostic visit would be $ 98, payable at the time of the visit. I asked if that would be applied toward any required fix. She explained that it would pay for about 45 minutes of diagnostic and repair work; if the tech had the needed parts in the truck he would install them and that would preclude a second repair visit.
A pleasant young man arrived as promised and put on shoe covers to keep from messing up the floors of house. I brought him to the furnace, explained what was happening and that there was no glowing ignitor visible. After he heard my diagnosis, he checked the ignitor and observed immediately that it had failed. He was pleased to see the type of ignitor, as it was very easy to remove and he had a replacement in his truck. The company policy is to quote the repair price BEFORE doing work; because he did not do that, I assumed it would be a reasonable cost. It took him all of five minutes to replace the ignitor (well within the 45 minute window of the diagnostic/​labor charge).
As we discussed the ease of the fix, he agreed that it was an easy fix but said that it would be pricey. I had no idea what he meant until he completed his electronic paperwork. I understood the $ 98 charge for the diagnosis/​labor, but the price for the replacement part was quoted at $ 279, bringing the total charge to a shade over $ 400 after tax. My quick research indicated that the ignitor he used had a Mfg. Retail Price of $ 57, but was readily available online for less than half of that. When I expressed my dismay at the outrageous and surprise repair cost I was experiencing, he called the office on my behalf. When he got nowhere, I called the office myself and spoke with the manager (the owner was not available). I was able to make no progress in getting them to charge a reasonable amount (five times the retail price or ten times the actual price just seemed unreasonable to me — if they had quoted something like $ 80 [still three times the actual price and more than the retail price] I would have willingly paid it, understanding that they are in business to make a buck). So I had the technician remove the new ignitor, and then I thanked him and paid him the agreed-​upon diagnostic/​labor fee for his time. I will purchase the ignitor directly and install it myself in five minutes. I will also buy an extra ignitor as a spare and still be about $ 250 ahead.
I received communication from the company owner essentially saying that the work should have been quoted up front and that a simple repair such as mine should have been done at a reduced rate or without the diagnostic fee.
Based on this unreasonable pricing structure, I would just caution anyone using HARP to be an educated and cautious consumer. Their front line personnel were proficient and courteous, and their response time was excellent. The pricing was simply too outrageous to earn my full recommendation.

I had to call HARP because my burner system shut down. They came out, had no idea what was wrong, so they simply kept replacing parts hoping to get lucky, you get stuck with a big bill that you never signed a work order for them to do. Not BBB accredited. Filed a complaint against them.

Hired HARP to do a simple furnace tune up and cleaning several years ago. The technician they sent to my house did not know what he was doing. He put the wrong nozzle on my tank causing a chain reaction of negative issues with my furnace to surface two months later. Hired HARP to resolve the furnace issues, huge mistake. The next technician sent to my house did not have the training or experience to diagnose the problem, ended up replacing the incorrect nozzle with another incorrect nozzle, and charged me over $ 300 to do so. Two months later the same issues resurfaced and I hired HARP again to fix the furnace. The 3^rd technician sent to my house was equally incompetent and charged me another $ 300 to replace the incorrect nozzle with another incorrect nozzle. When the negative furnace issues resurfaced again I broke down and signed a service contract with KASDEN fuel and had a real furnace technician under contract take a look at my burner. The real technician from KASDEN explained to me that whoever was servicing my furnace was putting the wrong nozzle on the oil tank causing all of my repeated negative burner issues. It’s been over 4 years now and I have not had any issues with the furnace since KASDEN put the correct nozzle on my set up. HARP was unwilling to give me any kind of refund for their repeated mistakes after I explained the situation to them which makes me think maybe they put the wrong nozzle on my machine on purpose so I would have to keep reusing them every couple of months at over $ 300 a visit. They are NOT BBB accredited either. Consider yourself warned! Do not do business with these people!

I have been using HARP Mechanical for years. They replaced my boiler with a state-​of-​the art German boiler and did beautiful work. Very professional at every step along the way
I also use HARP to maintain my AC system, which has been going strong since I had it installed in 2002.
I highly recommend HARP Mechanical for all things HVAC.

I had to call because of no heat. Had to call in the middle of the night desperately hoping they could come out Sunday morning, and Super Bowl Sunday of all days. Jake was very nice and courteous on the phone and was so when I spoke to him in the morning again and then while at my home. He was quick, thorough and the price was reasonable especially given the emergency nature of the call. Now my heat is slowly coming back thanks to Jake. I have been looking for a new HVAC specialist because my last one wasn’t going to work out despite many tries. I think I have found my new company. Thank you HARP for showing me that there are still companies value customer service!!!

The H.A.R.P. guys do good work but hang on to your wallet. They will take you for every cent you have. I knew they were expensive but, when my tenants gas burner, that they installed only 2 ½ years ago,
went on the fritz I had to call them again. It took them 2 days to get a correct diagnosis, obtain the proper part (after ordering the wrong part) and get the furnace fixed… to the tune of almost $ 500.00. 4 days later I was told by my tenants that they had been without hot water since the furnace repair. I called H.A.R.P. to come back and check to see if the furnace repair had affected the hot water heater. They said it did not and left having put in 10 minutes in the basement. I got billed over $ 100.00 for them to tell me that their work did not cause the hot water heater problem. Let’s see…$ 100.00 dollars for 10 minutes… that comes to $ 600.00 and hour. I don’t care if they do good work. Other furnace guys also do good work… at a much cheaper price. If you do not want to get financially screwed STAY AWAY.

Fast, Honest, Knowledgeable and so easy to deal with.

I still own a condo in East Hartford and my AC/​heating unit blew during one of the cold spells we’ve had this winter. Hoping to keep my tenant happy I quickly called HARP and they were at the condo very quickly. They diagnosed the problem, gave me a solution over the phone and installed a new inside and outside AC/​heating unit within a day or two. Everyone involved was very helpful and I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

If you are looking for reasonable prices and fast services, this is your company! We have had HARP going on 3 years and we could not be happier. We had a small issue with our furnace when we bought the house and when they tuned up our furnace, they threw it in as maintenance. They are always willing to trouble shoot a problem versus up sell you to the next shiny object.
