Best Western Plus Winslow Inn

This Best Western was sort of in the middle of nowhere but sometimes that’s the best place to be. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The general manager, Mr. Ross, was friendly and helpful. answering our question about where to go to see the gorgeous night sky. To make the stay better, a good pizza place up the street AND free breakfast the next morning… check it out if u are ever close to the meteor crater!

I’ve stayed here 14 days out of the last 20 days. I’m very impressed with the facility and staff. The facility is modern with all the amenities the pool area does not have a spa. Rooms are clean and spacious. Staff are spot on and very receptive to your needs. Two thumbs-​up!

OK, Winslow is not exactly a haven for people wanting the height of entertainment or comfort, but on a road trip, a comfy bed is as good as gold. This hotel was OK, not great, it was a little dated and there wasn’t much nearby for a weary traveler. The wind was whipping so hard and the silt was coming into the room through a window that just didn’t want to close right, so all of the surfaces in the room had a layer of dust. Not much to tell other than that, the free breakfast was OK, not great. A good place to stop and sleep, but don’t expect much.

We had a great stay here, our room was a suite with 2 beds in one room and a comfortable sofa bed in the other. It also included a microwave and refrigerator. With 3 adults and 2 kids it was perfect. We paid $ 150 a night, but that included breakfast, which for 5 people is easily worth $ 50. The indoor pool is a little small, but was very nice and we had it all to ourselves during our early morning swim. The staff is super friendly and we had no problems during our 2 night stay. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the Sunday breakfast was quite inferior to the Saturday breakfast. The cook on sunday was not able to keep up, couldn’t make gravy, which is kind of important for their biscuits and gravy, and even set off the smoke alarm. However, there were other options besides biscuits and lumpy paste with burnt sausage so it wasn’t like we weren’t able to eat. There’s also eggs, pancakes, cereal, oatmeal etc.

We loved our stay. Very affordable. We stayed one night, comfortable beds, nice tv, fast Internet and really nice breakfast. We will definitely stay again.

The motel was relatively new, and the staff was helpful. The location is not very convenient — but maybe that was a good thing. Room was a good value, bed was comfortable, TV and cable was good, internet was good, and breakfast was OK.

Best Western Plus doesn’t think cats are pets. I’m a veteran of the gulf war, Balkan war, and OIF, finally retired and driving my two pets with me to join my sister in California – Methos and Tammuz are the closest I will ever come to having children. After hail, flooding, and tornadoes for several days we were exhausted, and I was tired and grateful to be at the «pet friendly» Best Western – booked BECAUSE they said they were «pet friendly.» They say «pet friendly» but they mean «DOGS ONLY» but are afraid if they are honest cat owners will do as I urge them to do: boycott Best Western. We continued on to flagstaff – Methos’ asthma made worse by the extra time in the car, until we reached a hotel chain that considers cats pets also: Marriott. Comfort Suites doesn’t discriminate against cat owners, either. The clerk said people are allergic to cats – well they are also allergic to dogs, and do you let people bring in peanuts to their rooms? Best Western just hates cats – plain and simple. If you care for cats, don’t give them your money. I’m so glad I risked my life for people like the management at Best Western, who either don’t think cats are pets, or think they can fool me by saying they are pet friendly when in reality they discriminate against cat owners.

I wish to express my gratitude for a pleasant stay at your hotel recently. After staying at this hotel for approximately two weeks I was able to get a pretty good sense of the place. My overall experience greatly exceeded my expectations and of the many benefits included were:

Comfortable bed

The hotel manager Mr. Mark Ross went beyond providing good customer service, he achieved customer loyalty. Mr. Ross went out of his way to make sure to meet me and to check if I needed anything during my stay. He was also kind enough to recommend some nice places to eat in Flagstaff, AZ when I travelled there over the weekend. In addition, I am currently training for the Boston Marathon and due to the cold weather and ice on the roads it was very difficult to run early morning in the dark on the streets. As I didn’t want to interrupt my training schedule, and I definitely didn’t want to get unnecessarily injured by slipping on the icy roads, I found myself in a little bit of a predicament. The hotel had a gym, but it operated from 7am-​10pm and I needed to run earlier than that in order for me to make it on time to my work engagement each morning. After explaining the situation to Mr. Ross, he pleasantly stated that he would gladly be able to accommodate me in this special circumstance.
In addition, every staff member I encountered was pleasant, attentive, and exceeded the quality of care I would’ve anticipated. The breakfast staff was cheerful and considerate. The front desk staff was friendly and professional. As I anticipate future work engagements in Winslow, I would not hesitate to choose this hotel as our primary place to stay due to Mr. Ross’s efforts and the kindness and professionalism of the entire staff.

The décor is very inviting. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. The staff was friendly and extremely accommodating. The breakfast was good and much more than the typical continental fair. I highly recommend this hotel and would certainly stay there again!

In short, it’s OK. There’s nothing wrong with the hotel or my room, but a lot of little things added up. I was in room 226 in late July. (started the review back then when my memory was fresh, and just finished it up now.)
Pros:
–The room itself is clean and includes modern furnishings and updated bathroom. It has a nice view off in the distance (of nothing, but that’s ok).
–It’s reasonably priced for a business traveler, $ 95 for 2 queen beds, with a small desk and chair.
–Free WiFi.
–Breakfast included.
–Right off the highway.
–Special ‘clean’ remote (albeit in a ragged old box).
–Front desk clerk was friendly.
Cons:
–Lobby smelled strongly of chlorine from the small pool. Not a big deal.
–TV was a hassle. There’s no guide. I spent a bit of time scrolling through channels that they don’t get; they need to program those out.
–Hallway lighting is weird, kind of dark, and casts a lot of shadows.
–Chair in my room is uncomfortable, not a rolling chair, and the screws need to be tightened.
–I found a bug in the room (or it found me), a large flying cricket. OK, it happens. I didn’t deduct points for this.
–Breakfast was basic but not especially good. It’s included, as noted above. The breakfast room was so small that I was stepping over people to get anything.
I don’t know if I’ll end up in Winslow again, but I’d probably try another place first. But I have nothing against this place, so it’s no big deal if I had to stay there again.

This is our 3^rd stay at this Best Western and you can’t beat the price and quality! Excellent CLEAN rooms with GOOD Breakfast!

Nice hotel. Clean and safe. Good staff. Glad I choose to stop here. Would return if in area. Just down from the corner. Convenient to the interstate. Nice size rooms. Look forward to the next stay.

As soon as I walked in I was pleasantly surprised. The décor and overall setup is very nice. The room was very neat and clean. It was a nice size especially since I has 2 playpens setup. Just had breakfast and there was a little of everything. I will stay here again!

I just had a great stay here and as we pulled out of the lot I checked my cc account. For a $ 104 room I paid $ 136 in taxes and fees that were not shown on my form upon checkin. Slimy, if you ask me. Other than that the room was clean, the internet worked and they provided the usual mediocre breakfast.

I was so happy with our stay for two reasons: we broke down, there were rooms available, and the beds were wonderful. Granted this wasn’t a planned stop, the hospitality was great, the water was hit, and the beds were super comfy. I actually think j might be a fan of best western hotels because I have yet to be disappointed. Thanks Winslow Inn for making our trip a little less stressful after this detour.

Note to self: NEVER leave a hotel review before finishing my stay! I left this hotel a glowing review last night and then that’s when everything went wrong. First, the doors… If allowed to close on their own, they SLAM, and I mean very loudly! A neighboring guest who was continually going in and out of his room let the door slam each and every time (yes, of course this was after we’d gone to bed). When we got to our room the internet would not work so I called the front desk and was informed that it was down but she was working on it. Okay, no biggie, we were exhausted from our 13-​hour road trip anyway. So we’re trying to go to sleep and there’s a loud intermittent popping sound coming from somewhere keeping me awake. I get up to investigate and it’s coming from the exhaust fan in the bathroom ceiling. Very weird. So I close the bathroom door to block the sound. Could still hear it but it was muffled. Then, when I’m finally about to fall asleep I hear our door being opened and someone is coming in our room! I alert my husband, and the guy keeps coming in. I say «what the heck?!» loudly and still the guy keeps coming. Finally when my husband yells, «you’ve got the wrong room!!» he turns and leaves. (We think he was drunk.) Lesson learned: ALWAYS BOLT THE DOOR! I immediately called the front desk. It rang for at least three minutes with no answer. I hung up and called again. After about 15 seconds she answered. I asked how a strange man happened to have a key to our room and she said because the internet was down she couldn’t see which rooms were occupied and which were vacant and had to do everything «manually». She apologized, nothing more. And then about an hour later when I was finally about to fall asleep again the phone rings and it’s the gal at the front desk calling to say the internet was working again and that there won’t be anymore problems… you mean like with people waking us up when we are trying to sleep?! I never asked her to call me when the internet was working. By this time I had so much anger induced adrenaline flowing through my veins it felt like I’d just drank four cups of coffee. I was forever getting back to sleep after that. Other things to note: the chair by the table was so wobbly and loose I thought it would fall apart when I sat on it. The internet, though free, was very slow (when it was actually working). We were in a room that adjoined another and it was very easy to hear those guests talking. The bed and pillows were very comfy and the room was quite nice, but none of that could make up for the horrible night we had. Another 13-​hour day of driving ahead of us and with only 5 hours of sleep. Nice.

Was driving from St. Louis back to Orange County and this was to be one of our overnight stays. I chose this place because I had my little dachshund with me so I needed a pet friendly location.
Having experienced a rather nasty hotel the night before my expectations were low. Boy, was I shocked.
The place is new and smells wonderful. They have cold lemon water at the check in desk which, after 10 hours driving is the most amazing thing ever!
Marcus was at the check in desk. He was nice and funny and helpful.
Room was excellent! No smells, clean, great. What a relief. My dog was happy too.
The breakfast that comes with your room charge was epic, eggs, sausage, pancakes, serious grind!

The first time I stayed merely out of convenience. Now I time my night’s rest stop so I can sleep at the Winslow Inn, which is a value and pleasant experience relative to any other option I have encountered along I40 between California and Oklahoma. Bonuses include an indoor pool, fitness room, laundry facilities, and free wifi. I’m not impressed with their free breakfast (it looks better than it tastes) so I just put hot water in my to-​go-​mug (with an instant Starbuck’s packet) and grab fresh fruit for the drive.

I have worked in a four star, five diamond (Mobil stars, and AAA diamonds) hotel, and have been very fortunate to stay in a handful of similarly rated establishments. I can tell you with no amount of hesitation that the friendliness, attention to detail, and the overall commitment to making our stay wonderful was on par with any of the luxury hotels that I have stayed in. I stayed in 4 Best Western hotels during a drive from Mountain View, CA to Chapel Hill, NC and I wish that the other 3 stays were as nice as our stop in Winslow, AZ. I hope this praise reaches the staff there so that they will know that their hard work (I have done it, and it isn’t easy) is not unnoticed and unappreciated.
A note on the town in general, I have stopped there 4 times on cross country drives and everywhere I go there I have always gotten the absolute best customer service. I asked the front desk clerk at the hotel if there was something in the water that makes the teenagers at the local fast-​food places polite. She explained that the economy in the area was not the greatest, and with a small number of jobs available the managers basically get their pick from the best and brightest that Winslow has to offer. Further since jobs are so hard to come by the people who do get them work very hard to keep them. I wish we could transplant this type of attitude to larger failing cities in the US.
