Appliance Magic

American Home Shield (AHS) dispatched a technician from Appliance Magic three time to my house to fix a 10 years old dishwasher. The technician wasn’t able to repair it and wouldn’t report back to AHS to tell them he isn’t able to repair the dishwasher.

TWO VISITS THAT BOTH GET ONE STAR:
1) I have American Home Shield who sent Appliance Magic out to diagnose my refrigerator.
They never asked what kind of fridge I had, so they sent out a technician who didn’t recognize what kind of refrigerator it was. He was 20. My fridge is older than he was.
He removed the screws from the back, put a flashlight in it, «looked» around (because he touched nothing), and then he declared that it is usually the control board, but because my refrigerator is too old to have a control board, it «can’t be fixed».
Isn’t it your job to know how to fix these things? He didn’t even try.
2) I have American Home Shield who sent Appliance Magic out to diagnose my dishwasher problem. He declared it a plumbing problem and left after 10 minutes. But AHS is telling me that he told them that my dishwasher motor was burned out.
IT’S NOT.
Wow. He also told them there is a hole in the tub. I have not removed the door panel, but I do not see one.
These… dare I say, lies? … are preventing AHS from fulfilling the dishwasher warranty repair.

AHS member, they came out to fix my dryer. 1^st is the diagnostic appt, then after the parts are in another appt. A month later same problem arises. Called AHS for a recall, I placed the request didn’t hear anything back for 2 day. I called in and they said an appt was scheduled for the next day! News to me since I was never contacted! I wasn’t able to keep that appt. I asked them to just order the same part since I don’t want another half day at work. Won’t do it, but luckily they had an extra from the month earlier. Two weeks later SAME problem!!! Now they’re dragging their feet to come out. Day 2 of placing the recall and no call about scheduling. I told AHS I will not ever use this vendor again.

I had Appliance Magic come out March 12 to figure out what was wrong with my wall oven. There were 3 subsequent visits each one worse than the one before. Each time they made the issue worse than before. The original call was to fix the self clean component of the double oven. I am now left with partial use of the top oven with the bottom oven not working at all. AHS had to assign the repair to another company to fix the issue. Thousands of dollars in parts and repair. The oven will have to be replaced.

Appliance Magic is completely unprofessional. They don’t answer the phone with their business name, don’t have their name on their voicemail, don’t return phone calls, and don’t stand behind their work. They don’t even have accurate records of the work they botched in the first place. I have been without a functional oven for a month battling between AHS and Appliance Magic because Appliance Magic didn’t do the repair right the first time.
This isn’t even going into the fact that I have to replace my dishwasher and counter tops after a previous botched repair.
Make sure if you use AHS for your home warranty service to specifically request NOT to have Appliance Magic do the repair.

My Landlord has home warranty through American Shield. They contracted Appliance Magic to fix my dryer and I’ve had nothing but problems. First, it took several days to get an appointment. They called me once at 8PM, which I missed. For the next 3 days, when I tried to call back, there was never an answer. The voicemail did not say the company name, so I was reluctant to leave a message. I finally had the landlord intervene through her warranty company and was able to get an appointment– a week after the dryer stopped working. Fine. On the day of the appointment, the tech called to tell me he was on his way, which I would excpect. What I didn’t expect was for him to walk through my front door about 30 minutes later. Yes. Walked right on through. No knock. Just helped himself into my home where my 3 year old child happened to be laying on the couch. Thank God I was sitting in the living room with her. I immediately jumped up and informed him that he needs to knock and be allowed into people’s homes. He seemed flustered and didn’t really say anything. He went about his business. I will note that he did apologize on his way out. Parts had to be ordered for the dryer and he said it would take a few days. They would call to set up another appointment once the parts came in. Fine. That happened. A nice lady called and set up an appointment for Friday 2 – 6. I took off of work. On Friday, I did not hear from the company until 6:07pm. The same guy who walked into my house called and said he was in traffic in Manassas and that he would be there in 35 – 40 minutes. Fine. Annoyed, but fine. At 8:00pm he called again. He is still stuck in traffic. C’mon dude, I wasn’t born yesterday. I know DC traffic sucks… but really? No. I tell him that he needs to come over the weekend. He acted wishy washy about that, so I told him to call me the next day. He called me at 4pm Saturday. I’d already given up waiting, so I had gone to Baltimore with family. Here is is at 10am Tuesday, still haven’t heard from the company. Still am without a dryer. Talk about a terrible company!

I dont know if it is this company or my insurance provider American Home Shield which is very un American. Americans are good people when I call and im put on hold for hours at a time those are not good people. Iv had over 30 techs come out to my house for one oven and I can prove it. I will be canceling my service and definitely never calling these guys ever. 5 months without a oven 5 months eating mcdonalds kfc and every other fast food their is it sucks… dont put your family through this trust me. Like other reviewers, I have an American Home Shield home warranty and Appliance Magic was sent to my home to address an issue that I was having with dishwasher (was not cleaning dishes well). I have been very dissatisfied with my service. The technician came to my house 1 ½ weeks ago and told me that he thinks the issue is just that the filter needs to be replaced. I paid him $ 60 and he said he would bring out a new filter. Going on two weeks later, I still haven’t received the filter. I called yesterday, they said they would drop off the filter between 1 and 4pm. When I got home, there was no filter waiting for me. I called again today and was told maybe they would bring it today, maybe tomorrow. This seems unacceptable to me because I was not kept in the loop about the change in delivery time AND I STILL HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS WILL ADDRESS THE PROBLEM.

I too have American Home Shield. They came out for 2 separate appliances, dryer and fridge. Both times the tech was knowledgeable and they were in and out. When parts needed to be ordered, they came within a week and they scheduled me as soon as they arrives. Fast and courteous…

I have American Home Shield who sent Appliance Magic out to diagnose my refrigerator. The first issue had to be that they didn’t ask what kind of fridge I had, so they sent out a technician who was confused as to my brand (Fisher and Paykel) and so he asked for the book. We gave it to him, but it is an owner’s manual, not an operating manual. He removed the screws from the plate that housed the components, put a flashlight in it, «looked» around (because he touched nothing), and then he declared that it must be my control board or the compressor and reattached the plate. He said that he had to, «diagnose the refrigerator online», and would return on Saturday but gave me no time. On Saturday, I called to get an estimated arrival time. The dispatcher was confused. He told me that only one person works on Saturday and he would call me back. When he returned my call he said, «We cannot fix that refrigerator as we are unfamiliar with that brand». He then told me that he had called American Home Shield to tell them that they could not fix it. When calling AHS, they had not received a call from Appliance Magic. Now I have to wait for another company because Appliance Magic was too incompetent to ask what kind of refrigerator I owned, but more important, their technician was not up front enough to simply say, I cannot fix this. This has cost me another 7 days of substandard refrigeration and loss of food and I seriously question Appliance Magic’s business practices.

AHS uses them and they are not that great. We called about our dryer and it took 8 visits before they decided they could not fix it. Now our washer is not working properly. The guy stayed for about 5 minutes and said he couldn’t find anything wrong with it. Will never use thm again.
