History

Established in 1979.

Flooring America was started in 1979 in Rural Southern MD. In 1982 a new building was built in Southern MD and a new location was opened in Woodbridge, VA. In 1986 a new building was built in Woodbridge, VA. The new Fairfax store was built in 2003. Our 3 showrooms are spacious and state of the art. The Menefee family owns and operates the business with Robert Menefee as President since 2001. «Providing a positive client experience is our main mission. We are in the people business and strive to treat clients from the phone, internet or walk-​in with the importance they deserve.»

Flooring America was delightful! The wood flooring we purchased is good quality. The stain is even and the color is consistent.
We priced out other vendors who were significantly cheaper but those vendors had thinner wood and the stain was more concentrated at one end of each board as though they sprayed on stain while the wood was standing vertically.
The install crew was delightful, professional and fast! They cleaned up after themselves beautifully, they were pretty gentle on my walls.
I am thrilled with my purchase.

Flooring America does good work, but scheduling appointments, communication, and contractors being late were major issues that persisted over the five weeks we worked with the company. One example is the estimator being an hour late without a call; we finally called him to reschedule because we had plans, he didn’t answer or check his messages, and he showed up as we were about to leave. A second example is having to call Flooring America to initiate appointments, such as the painting and laminate floor installation; our laminate arrived some time before we heard anything, and that it had arrived came out when my husband called to check on it after not hearing anything for longer than it was estimated to take. A *third* example is installers running seriously late for our final appointment. They were stuck in traffic 20 – 30 minutes from our house when traffic is normal; we received a call from Flooring America five minutes before the latest they were supposed to arrive to give his location and say they were going to be late. The installers were either going to be late even if traffic had been normal (as in they were that far behind) or had been in traffic for some time and didn’t let anyone know until the last minute. I think it was the latter since it was around Thanksgiving, but a courtesy call when traffic first became an issue would have been the best approach. We had to reschedule due to having plans that evening as well. Overall, the contractors did good jobs; however, there were too many inconveniences that shouldn’t have happened to say we’d use Flooring America again or chalk anything up to an isolated mishap.

I have stopped by this Flooring/​Carpet Store twice in the past 4 months. Both times I was greeted with indifference. If you want customers to patronize your establishment, PLEASE treat them like you want their business.

Kudos to Doug as a sales representative. My rating goes to the overall management of the store. My order was placed and after 3 weeks no sign of when the carpet was going to be installed. The glitch seems to have been in the operations which means that they have no idea when orders will arrive, lacking process. The day of installation between 8 am and 10 am, I received the call telling me the order did not arrive and would have to be reorder which means another 3 weeks of looking out the window waiting for the delivery.
I am sure other competitors will take advantage of this rating, but I rely on the review of customers and their experience to decide where I will do business. 10 years in the area, first time doing business with the store, and opportunity to carpet the rest of my house went «South». No more for me… Thanks guys.

Flooring America did an awesome job! — From Bob, who came to our house to measure; to Kelley, who helped us pick out our floor; to Carlos and his crew (installers), we are totally satisfied with the whole process. Special thanks to Kelley for being so helpful and responsive anytime I had a question/​concern. I would definitely recommend FA for your flooring needs.

A few years ago, we purchased carpet for our entire house from Flooring America. They had the product that we wanted for the best price of any business. We were pleased with the installation of the carpet. More recently, we had to have a section of carpet replaced and repaired, and the workers did a good job.

I chose Flooring America to re-​tile the guest bathroom in our home. Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience with Flooring America. Kevin was our salesman, and he was friendly and knowledgeable, offering helpful tips and advice. After tile shopping at Home Depot and Lowes and not finding anything I really liked, I was happy to find that Flooring America offers a wide variety of products, and their pricing was competitive. The installation went smoothly, and while they were able to finish the job in one day, they did not have the proper hardware to install the new toilet I had bought. No problem though as they happily offered to return the next morning to take care of it, and they even hauled my old toilet away at no additional cost. The installers did a great job, and I was impressed by the cleanup. I love my new bathroom floor. I would definitely consider Flooring America for future jobs.

My experiences with Flooring America were unsatisfactory. The company was chosen over others b/​c of price and the fact that they are an Armstrong Authorized Dealer.
After the estimate was given, contract signed, deposit paid, materials ordered, and installation begun, the installers mentioned that we most likely had asbestos on the under flooring. That required special removal and would cost $ 400.00 additional. No one mentioned this during the estimate even though we were clear about the underneath, the age of products and threshold was removed. After testing that revealed asbestos, I complained and the cost was lowered to $ 288.00. It felt like a «bait and switch» tactic.
The removal was rescheduled and took an entire day. On the day of installation, one person arrived. He stated that the other installer was sick, but he could do the job alone in one day. At 6 pm he said he had to leave but would return on Sat. morning to finish. He left some areas with mastic coating but without tile, that lead to mastic getting on the new tile areas due to tracking. The installer returned on Sat. and finished the tile work, a threshold was too short and had to be replaced – he did not have any extra thresholds on the truck so he would return on Mon. We also discovered that tiles were cut too short to go under dishwasher base plate. On Monday the threshold and tiles beneath dishwasher base plate were replaced.
A couple of days later as we attempted to install the shoe mold, we discovered that the tile had been cut too short so that the gap in front of the cabinets was too wide to be covered by shoe mold. The installer returned to recut tiles so that shoe mold would cover the gap.
It took 11 days and 5 trips to remove the old floor and install new tile – it was said to be a 1 day job when the contract was signed.
I wrote to Flooring America and Armstrong after the floor was completed. Armstrong sent an unsigned form letter. Flooring made no response.
I think that Flooring America’s business practices are questionable and the workmanship of the installers shoddy.
I will not purchase from them again.

I walked in last week sales rep William greeted me and from that day my experience has been AWESOME… He was professional and gave his honest opinion. Exactly what I needed because I do not like a lot of choices. We chose the carpet for the stairs which looks amazing. The installers Eric were friendly and fast.
William helped me choose the Laminate for the rest of my house which made my day easy
Their prices are reasonable. I chose this company because of the great reviews and my friend has used them on several occasions. So word of mouth is always the way to go.

Stay far far away! William the saleman is slimey like a used car saleman and he tried to pull the old bait and switch. They also do not honor their «Price Match Guarantee». We came to them with an estimate that was $ 1k less and they would only reduce their price a bit but not match it. I don’t call that a «Price Match Guarantee» I call that a LIE! Stay far far away!
UPDATE: Bob I didn’t respond because we went somewhere else. Somewhere that wasn’t SHADY doing the old bait and switch.

The most incompetent flooring company I’ve ever used!
They said a week to redo stairs and a few bedrooms, we’re going into month two and there’s no end in site.
The sales people tell you what you want to hear but when it comes to performing the left hand does not know what the right is doing, I’ve been lied to so many times about product being delivered, and told of completion dates that come and go.

We ended up deciding to not purchase new carpeting but definitely would have gone with Flooring American. Our salesman, Kevin, was friendly and informative and we found the rates offered far more reasonable than the local Lowe’s. While I cannot comment on actual installation or final results, if/​when we do decide to invest in new carpeting, we shall definitely consider Flooring American.
Edit (January2013): was a bit disappointed we did not hear back from them when I took the time to inform them we were delaying our carpet purchase. It would have been good form for them to acknowledge me and even ask us to remember them when we were ready. Nonetheless, they still deserve the 3 stars I’ve rated them.

Got the samples from the store like the other post stated, but after we made the appointment for them to come out and measure; they no-​showed. We have money to spend and want someone to do the work. Why is it so hard to get services around here? We are going with another company.

I’ve never actually been to the store but Mike Hopke was our sales rep. He always came to us. We have a curved staircase and installing the carpet was tricky. They sent their quality control manager to do it and he did an excellent job. I can’t say enough about the great quality of service, timely delivery, good price, etc.
