Dexter Wines & Spirits

My sister had a shin dig at her house last weekend and we needed to get a couple woman’s 40’s…aka «Wine Bottles». And spring/​summer is one of my faves because it means Rose season! We went to her local spot, Dexter’s Wine and Spirits. I have seen the place before from the outside and was drawn to their giant lit up sign.
Walking in at first it seems like a fancier version of a plexi glass liquor stores in so many NY neighborhoods. I wanted to be able to pick up the bottle of wine and read the description. I do like to look at all the labels and seeing some description highlights in a few.
Lucky for my sister, my friend and I the Brooklyn Winery owner was just setting up for a tasting! What luck! I love me a tasting. There was 4 wines on the menu!!! We started with the Chardonnay moved on to Riesling and then Gewürztraminer and then a red but it slipped my mind which kind it was. I got stuck on the Riesling. It was reminiscent of something so specific. We were able to get a second sample. And then it hit me like a ton of bricks. of course… LYCHEE!
It became an impromptu ladies night right there at the wine shop! Such good times! We each got bottles from Connor from the Brooklyn Winery! I had to stick with my Rose but will definitely be hitting up the wine tours at the winery in Brooklyn. Thanks for teaching us about the grapes, Connor!

What a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. The man behind it has turned an old business into a new, improved alcohol paradise. Organic wine options, mezcal, and liquor tastings. Support him in his efforts to bring something to the avenue that it is lacking– different and delicious liquor options.

Apart from their incredible knowledge in wines and spirits, they are extremely friendly and patient with clients who need a little more guidance. I have been frequenting Dexters for some time now and I am more impressed each time with their variety and knowledge. Although it is not the closest liquor store to me, it is my go to because of the impeccable service! The wine tastings they have are the icing on the cake! You’ll never leave disappointed with what you have purchased. Thanks for all your help!

So don’t ask me how I came here but I happened to be here nearby at a get together at a friends house and we needed to get some things. I was actually looking for an Agua Ardiente blue but when I got in there I completely forgot about it. The staff was very pleasant and gave me a quick education and made me feel like I was at a spa. They had sample wines that you could taste and the patience to guide someone who is not an aficionado like myself. I wound up buying a Pitorro a couple of 90+ wines. I spent money and took more than I had planned but I didn’t feel pressured or rushed. Their variety and reasonably priced selections allowed me to get a few without feeling I need to be a Sommelier. Very good spot I will be coming back.

I would highly recommend this liquor store. Beautiful décor. Great prices. Friendly atmosphere. I would definitely return again!
