Eastside Veterinary Dentistry

I took our little guy here because our vet recommended he have about 10 teeth extracted. After the initial exam, the estimate was $ 1700 – 2600, with the disclaimer that estimates may vary as much as 20%. (Which puts the high high estimate at $ 3120.) Dr. Matson added «we will hope for $ 1700.»
Once they got him under anesthesia and x-​rayed him for surgery, we received a call saying that he needed a total extraction, and it would have to be two procedures, totaling around $ 4000. We felt stuck; he was already on the table and under anesthesia, so we okayed the first procedure (which ended up costing over $ 2100), but we have found another vet to do the remainder of them. We feel misled and manipulated. Hopefully this review will help someone else avoid this.
UPDATE: Animal Clinic of Benson extracted the other half of my dog’s teeth. Eastside was going to charge over $ 1700, including a «$ 200 courtesy discount,» and Dr. Lee at Benson did it for $ 850. Had we done all of the teeth at Benson, it would have been about $ 1200 total. Very happy with the quality of care at Benson as well.

Dr. Matson was wonderful with my dog. I was told by another dental vet that he would need most likely two root canals that would cost around $ 3500, or pull his two lower teeth (this was after not even being able to examine his teeth, even with a tech helping her) So, l decided to get a second opinion and made an appointment with Dr. Matson. What a difference. The whole office staff were warm and sweet and greeted both me and my dog with cookies and enthusiasm. Dr. Matson was right on time (no waiting around in the exam room) and took his time with my skittish dog to have him get used to being examined before «diving into» look at his teeth. When he did examine my dogs teeth he did it with confidence and authority and was able to see that he most likely won’t need any root canals. Yay!!! Thank you for your honesty. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone needing dental work for their animals to drive out to Woodinville.

as a volunteer at meow cat rescue, i’ve been well aware of dr. matson for years as he treats tons of meow cats. i got to experience him firsthand when my 3 year old had such bad periodontal disease that she stopped eating 3 months after having her teeth cleaned at my regular vet’s office. he went over our options, recommended what he would do if she was his cat, removed all of her teeth behind the canines, and then treated her for the resulting severe inflammation after the surgery.
the only reason for the star reduction is that he is extremely expensive. it cost $ 2,000 for the extractions and xrays, not including the initial $ 85 office visit. jesus christ.

I just took my cat to EVD this week. She doesn’t like being picked up, and like most cats, doesn’t like strangers poking at her. All of the staff at EVD were gentle and kind to her which kept the stress for her at a minimum. When Dr Matson picked her up I expected a struggle, but she was perfectly fine. (I’m just a little jealous about that.). I liked these guys and will continue to work with them for my cat’s dental work and checkups.
