Description

Specialties

We are a Community Supported Agriculture produce farm, feeding our local community for 28 years. We grow fresh produce for members who receive a share of the harvest once per week for 21 weeks between June — Oct. In addition to a weekly array of vegetables that we harvest for you, members can u-pick dozens of varieties of greens, herbs and flowers at no extra charge. All produce is grown on site at our farm between Redmond and Woodinville, and we conform to all growing regulations of the Organic Foods Production Act. We use only GMO-free seeds.

During the months of May and June, we sell healthy veggie starts and gallon tomato plants for the home gardener which are grown here at the farm without the use of artificial heat, chemicals or other growth stimulants for superior performance in NW gardens. All varieties we offer are tested in our field crops at our farm.

History

Established in 1986.

This CSA farm was started in 1986, and was one of the first CSA farms in the country. The property was previously used as a Christmas tree farm and the soil had been abused by the use of chemicals. The Root Connection started on just one acre, with reclamation work taking 3 years to bring the soil back to health. Work proceeded a few acres at a time until reaching our current 16 acres of fertile cropland.

The farm was operated with a sole owner until 2006, when it became a Cooperative, with CSA members having the opportunity to become owners by purchasing stock in the business. Currently, Roots of Our Times Cooperative now owns the Root Connection business and has over 100 investors.

In 2010, several CSA members started Farms for Life, a non-profit which purchases produce at reduced prices from several local farms and distributes fresh vegetables weekly at no charge to over 13 agencies that serve people in need of healthy food.

Meet the Manager

Claire T.

An avid home gardener, Claire decided to rent additional land at this location. When she read about the concept of CSA, she started the first one in Washington in 1986. As the CSA membership grew, farming quickly became a full-time job.
