History

Established in 2009.

Got Shade officially started in the custom shade sail and shade structure business in 2009.

Got Shade does business under Courtyard Construction and is owned and operated by Derek Michael Warner. I have been a licensed contractor in California since 1990 for over 24 years now. Recently I have added a license for the state Nevada in 2011.

Got Shade started in the classic way. In my backyard! I renovated my home in 2008 and decided to install shade sails in my small back yard. The heat from the synthetic grass was unbearable plus I thought it would add a cool look that was interesting. I started with ordering pre-made cheapies. I rigged them up and honestly was not all that impressed. Funny thing is neighbors and others were & asked me if I could do the same for them. Lucky for me my backyard fronts a busy short cut street and sees a lot of traffic. I put a sign up in the backyard that could be viewed by the public and Got Shade became a real business.

Meet the Business Owner

Derek W.

Business Owner

Before entering the shade sail and shade structure business in 2009. Derek Warner owned and operated a medium sized concrete and masonry company. Starting with high-end residential and then moving to commercial and public works projects. Besides being licensed as a specialty contractor his general contractors license and experience proved to be especially valuable as he also acted as a general contractor on many projects.

Derek started as a hands on apprentice carpenter in his teens and became a certified union Journeyman Carpenter at the age of 20 yrs old. He worked for 8 yrs as a commercial carpenter and class A carpenter prior to owning and operating his construction business.

This vast experience as both hands on and business management proves to be a valuable commodity.

Derek is married with two young boys and enjoys being involved with their team sports as coach and enjoys family trips to the lake.
