Paws & Claws Mobile Vet

I wish I could give a positive review based on the other good reviews that I have read. I’ve called this business at least 6 times, always getting a recorded message. I have left three messages over a week’s time and have not received a return call. Too bad. He sounds like a good vet.

We wanted an in-​home euthanasia for our sweet 15.5 year old dog who had already had enough of going to the vet. We called Paws & Claws on Friday and we were able to get a Saturday appointment. Stormy and Dr. Garcia were both wonderful — very compassionate and gentle with our girl. We were able to hold her in our arms and gently say goodbye. It is never easy to have to put your beloved pet to sleep, but this truly was a special experience. I know she went in peace, and that was so important to us after all the love our sweet girl gave us for all these years. If you are thinking about an in-​home option, I highly recommend Paws & Claws.

Dr. Garcia is the best. He cares about your furry family member, is helpful, trustworthy, and incredibly knowledgeable in his field. He is also very pleasant [and funny] when addressing the «parents.»
I could go on and on about specific experiences but the best one – which I tell others when I recommend him to friends and colleagues – is when Dr. Garcia was the ONLY veterinarian to recognise my cat had long been suffering from food allergies after years [and thousands of dollars] of not finding answers!

We had the sad task of saying goodbye to our beloved Elsa kitty and sending her over the rainbow bridge last week, and Dr. Garcia and Stormie were truly amazing. I had never met them before but they were gentle, thoughtful, compassionate, professional, considerate… I can’t think of enough positive adjectives. I sat on a bench in our front yard in the sunshine, Elsa relaxed in my arms enjoying the warmth like a true California girl, and she was able to just drift off. We miss her terribly but will always be grateful to these two humans for easing the stress of our painful goodbye.

We recently just adopted our new dog about 2 months ago and needed to find her a vet. We feel so lucky to have found Paws & Claws. Dr. Gonzalez is awesome. Very knowledgeable, thorough and genuinely really cares for our pet. Jaime and Stormie treat our girl so good when assisting Dr. Gonzalez and Heather is so friendly and helpful with setting up appointments, sending me any documents I may need and answering any questions I have. All genuinely care about their patients. Our dog loves the attention she gets when she visits which makes seeing the vet an enjoyable experience for her. We’ve utilized the mobile service for her first physical. It was very convenient, easy on our pet, and the Vet RV is pretty slick. We’ve also visited the office on Ventura for an ear treatment. Both great experiences. Our dog’s well being is so important to us so finding such a great Vet has been very valuable to us. Thank you Paws & Claws!

Dr. Garcia and his staff were very through in giving a second opinion for my dog, Donny. I was impressed by how nice the staff were and how patient Dr. Garcia was when analyzing Donny. Although he doesn’t need surgery now, I know where I’m going from now on if he ever does need care. I drove from Culver City to see Dr. Garcia, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I don’t even know where to begin… Dr Garcia isn’t our regular vet, but when our 3 year old Weimaraner tore her ACL we were referred to him as the best choice. After checking reviews and speaking with Paws & Claws we chose him to perform her surgery. We expected a long but uneventful recovery… but that just wasn’t in the cards.
About 9 weeks after her surgery, X-​rays revealed that she had over flexed her knee and in the process, broke off a piece of bone toward the top of the repaired area. A second surgery was required to reattach the bone with pins and this time they chose to immobilize her leg in a soft cast to prevent another incident. With weekly bandage changes it became clear she was still able to move her leg more than desired and after a quick X-​ray we got even more bad news… she’d done it again!
Surgery #3 removed all the previous hardware and confirmed that the other areas of surgery had healed well and were in good shape. This allowed Dr. Garcia to drill through the tibia to better secure the fracture and he also fixed her with an external «cage» pinned through the bone to completely immobilize her leg.
Her surgery was Wed and by the next day we noticed a nut had loosened and fallen off the external fixture. After some tightening over the next day or two, it was determined that it was probably a faulty piece of hardware, which they swapped out and now we’re hopeful it will hold.
Dr. Garcia, Heather, Jaime, Stormy and all the staff at Paws & Claws have been so wonderful through this entire ordeal! Even making a special trip to our house on a Saturday to replace the hardware so we wouldn’t have to transport our poor girl. They are so caring, knowledgable, compassionate and accommodating it has made a negative experience as positive as possible. We have been able to call on them at any time and get a response, advice and quick decisive action to help us and our girl.
It would be very easy for most people to try to blame the vet in a situation like this, but we know our dog is very high energy and hard to keep still and they did everything right, went above and beyond and truly care about getting our baby back to her old self again. I can not recommend them highly enough! Whether you need a mobile surgeon or not, you can feel confident that Paws & Claws will take the best care possible of your pets.

I cannot speak highly enough about this vet, the service, and their staff! My dog tore her cruciate ligament in her knee last May, and I was researching procedures, vets, and prices regarding surgery. I was given Dr. Garcia’s contact information from another vet who highly recommended him, and I decided to have him perform the TTA procedure on my dog last October. The mobile vet clinic arrived at my doorstep and performed the procedure in my driveway. It was so awesome to be able to be with my dog right after her surgery and to have her sleep the first night in her comfortable, familiar bed instead of in a vet hospital (as they are usually required to stay one night). Paws & Claws also came out two more times to take out her staples and do follow-​up X-​rays, and it was all included in the price. Further, all of his staff members (especially Stormy!) that accompanied him and who I spoke with on the phone were exceptionally friendly, down-​to-​earth, and helpful. Now, almost 8 months later, my dog is doing fantastic. We go on 2 – 3 mile walks almost every day and she never limps. She’s almost 11 years old and still chases the occasional squirrel in the backyard with no problems. Should her other knee go, I’ll be calling Dr. Garcia again!

Our dog was sick for 8 days and our vet could not figure out what was wrong with him. He had x-​rays, blood tests, an ultrasound — no answers. We saw a specialist at an emergency vet who gave us some totally inaccurate information and we left there feeling helpless and discouraged. The girl who works the front desk at our vet told us about Dr. Garcia and got us an appointment with him for that evening. We went to his mobile office and he examined our dog, re-​read the vet’s x-​rays and blood tests and pretty much determined immediately he had an obstruction in his stomach. He recommended we do surgery and a few hours later, he called to say he found a stuffed animal and a piece of plastic inside his stomach! We met Dr. Garcia and his staff for an hour and they found the problem and got to the bottom of it, more than anyone else did for us in 8 days.
I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Garcia and his staff — they are knowledgeable warm and caring and make you feel so at ease. Our dog’s surgery went wonderfully and he is home and recovering! We are SO thankful we found them and plan on recommending them to everyone!

Dr Garcia, Lisette, and Heather are fantastic people who obviously care about you and your dog. Dr Garcia is a family man with roots in the community.
We have a large 163 pound Newfoundland who at times is very difficult to transport. It is also difficult to find a vet who is extremely knowledgeable on giant breed dogs. Dr Garcia is an expert with these dogs, as he owns large breeds himself.
Our dog has a at times a painful neck condition which has shown itself a few times in his 5 years of life. We have even taken him to a neurologist at Access who couldn’t positively identify the pain as a neck problem.
A couple of months ago, the condition arose again an our baby Chaz was crying in pain. We called Dr Garcia who responded to our home. He new exactly what to do and managed to exactly diagnose the neck condition. With multiple pain drugs
via I.V. and other medications, Chaz was extremely better the following morning.
Dr Garcia is a great Vet and his staff is fantastic. I have had dogs all my life and have dealt with many vets. Dr Garcia is a «keeper.»

I have only positive feedback for my experiences with Dr. Garcia and his very caring staff. Extremely knowledgeable and competent, professional and trustworthy! My Pit Bull Barney had a lot of breathing problems — he wheezed all of the time and struggled to keep up on even easy walks. Dr. Garcia diagnosed him with an elongated short palette — a problem that obstructs breathing for a lot of the bully breeds. I had never heard this suggested before. Following surgery in the Paws and Claws state-​of-​the-​art mobile hospital, Barney is doing great — no more wheezing and he enjoys our walks now. Dr. Garcia’s wonderful staff, including Lisette, Stormey and Heather, were great at putting Barney at ease. This was the first time he wasn’t freaked out by a vet exam! They followed up frequently after the surgery to make sure Barney was doing well. Barney and I are both very grateful!!!

Last night my daughter and I used this mobile vet service to put down our 15 and a half year old basset beagle. Considering the sad circumstances, it was the one of my better decisions. Three lovely women came and were warm, caring and did not rush us. Roxie was put to sleep in her own bed, at home, with her family. She was not afraid or in pain. They took Roxie with them to be cremated. At this point I don’t think I will ever have another dog, but for those who do and are in a position like mine, I would highly recommend using this vet. sue

I simply love that we have found another Vet that we love as trust. It’s been hard since loosing our vet to another state. He had been with us for 15 yrs. since that time Dr Garcia and his team has come to our rescue 3 times now. I will always call Paws and Claws my vet. Love the whole team. Heather and Lisette just make you feel like family.

I will agree with all of the other awesome reviews here — Dr Rick Garcia and his whole team are just amazing, caring people who genuinely love animals and enjoy what they do. I am so grateful that they have this service — a mobile vet — as one of my dogs is senior, has elbow dysplasia and some arthritis and I just can’t haul her to our regular vet anymore so Dr Garcia is now the go-​to for her. our little dog loves them too — and that’s saying a lot because she’s neurotic and doesn’t like everyone. They’ve done a lot for us already and I’ll continue to use them and recommend them to everyone as they are invaluable to our family!

Dr Garcia and his team visited Casa McKibben for the 1^st time yesterday. We have 3 resident dogs that all needed an annual check-​up. One of our pups, Binks, has SAS (Subaortic Stenosis) and is now going through congestive heart failure. Binks is still a happy boy and enjoying life, but his condition has to be carefully regulated at this stage. Dr. Garcia did an extensive workup and even consulted with Binks’ cardiac specialist. He took the time to explain EVERYTHING to me and made a number of adjustments to the medications that Binks is taking. Binks loved the attention from the Paws & Claws staff and I could tell he felt VERY comfortable. Our big Labradoodle, Neo, had a yeast infection in his ears that I had not noticed. Dr. Garcia’s team cleaned out Neo’s ears and even trimmed the hair to reduce the likelihood of more problems. Although Neo wasn’t crazy about it, they were extremely gentle and he was all waggy-​tailed once it was over. Our third dog, Princess Rose, is going to need to have her teeth cleaned, but is healthy otherwise. She got in the front seat of the mobile clinic and was ready to go for a ride.
This is a GREAT service and the Paws & Claws team is awesome!

I have a six month old puppy who broke a toe while playing with other dogs

It was a simple break, but over the following 9 days my pup stopped eating and became extremely lethargic. We made frequent returns to the original vet, who is well established, well liked and trusted, and after nearly a weeks stay in that clinic and multiple tests later — something was fishy and unknown to us, her condition was worsening progressively.
We picked her up from the original vets office where she had stayed the previous 4 days and took her to an emergency clinic to see specialists, for those answers we needed, who examined. We were completely horrified at what we saw. It was a drastic difference from only a few days earlier when we had dropped her off with the original vet. At this point her wrist and paw were 4 – 6 times larger than the other three and looked like it had gone though a meat grinder; pads, skin, and toes were necrotizing and sloughing off. The specialists told us it was a staph infection, the previous vet had made several errors, and that leg amputation was the only option.
We were not giving up on our perfectly healthy 6 month old puppy and started calling other clinics and friends. The vet’s we spoke with tended to agree that the emergency clinic that she was at, at that time, are in fact specialists and usually the last word on acute issues such as these.
It was hopeless, until we got to Dr Garcia, who was referred to us by a friend and long time client of Paws.
At that time, I was willing to pray to or drive to anyone who could offer hope.
After a very long 2 weeks of daily, 70 mile round trips for cleaning, debriding, bandage changes, minor procedures to assist with healing, and along with antibiotics, miraculously our girl is walking on all four again. She has a ways to go yet but the progress has astounded everyone and she is no longer in the danger she was in.
Dr Garcia is very highly skilled, passionate, straight forward and honest, compassionate, and cares deeply about animals and what he does, as does every tech and assistant working for him. He runs a very organized show and is truly there for people and there a pets.
High skill and care is what heals pets as well as people. Paws and Claws are very likable people and I never once felt like it was «business».

UPDATE: A year later Sascha continues to recover under the car of Dr. Garcia and is getting stronger by the week. She runs and plays normally and we are forever grateful to Dr. Garcia and Paws and Claws for both their ability and willingness to treat our baby Sascha.

Look no further! You found your man… Dr Rick Garcia! Recently he took care of my precious love of my life pug. After 10 years of incessant ear infections and wasting my money with procedures and meds that don’t work elsewhere, he finally solved the problem. He was knowledgeable and knew exactly how to solve the problem and end my dog’s lifetime of misery. He is kind, straightforward, professional, and most of all (ill repeat!) knows what he’s doing! His entire staff is kind and treats your pet just like their own. Where else will you get staff to text you to check on your pet? His prices are very reasonable and gets right to the point of treating your pet. It does not get much better than them, and I’ve been ALOT of places! Your pet is in great hands rest assured. I am so thankful to not have to throw my money away anymore — I finally found «my vet».

My best friend is my dog Mason, an older dog that loves life. As a senior dog, he is set on his ways, and his behavior is pretty regular, almost predictable. I can always count on him to wake up from the deepest of sleeps between 8:25 and 8:30 every night to eat his dinner.
His reliability is something I’ve always counted on, so I knew there was something wrong when he began to «skip» or be late for meals. He began moaning in his sleep and when he walked. I was planning a trip to the LA area to visit my parents, and I needed to be sure he was ok before we headed south. I took him to my local vet (up in the bay area), even though I was not their biggest fan. I was told by the vet, after a very quick check-​up, that it was normal behavior for a dog his age. That in the next 3 to 6 months he would only get worse and I should get ready for the end. I couldn’t believe this guy! I wanted a second opinion. I went to my friend’s vet, who again gave Mason the same quick glance-​over and said it was normal behavior.
These comments didn’t sit well with me, but I packed my car, and Mason and I headed south. By the time we got to my parents’ house, Mason was not doing well. I was going to call some vet hospitals, but my parents told me to call their vet. A vet that came to their house!!!
Upon arrival, Dr. Garcia and both his techs were so helpful and caring. Dr. Garcia actually took his time examining Mason, and although he said that that particular behavior was sometimes seen in dogs that age, he needed to rule other things out. He ended up taking an x-​ray as follow-​up on something he felt in the examination. The x-​ray showed that there was something (a sock) stuck in Mason’s intestine. He explained the procedure and possible complications of the required surgery as well as the cost. After the consult Dr. Garcia and his techs got started, and before I knew it, Mason was resting comfortably on his bed.
Since moving back to the LA area, Dr. Garcia has become our vet! The care and attention they gave us, is like no other!!! He has my business for life!!!

got my lab results after 3 weeks. they showed clearly my dog was suffering from an infection (it was printed in red) but they were too busy trying to get me to buy heartworm treatment pills from them. I took my dog to their regular vet, apparently, she was suffering from CUSHINGS disease which is determined by the blood tests that Dr. Garcia did with his $ 600 worth of blood/​urine tests.
So disappointed, not using them again. ever.
