Susan Fredericks, DDS

Dr Fredericks gave me a movie star smile. She is extremely professional, fast and gentle. I drive all the way from Ventura to see her and if it was 100 miles farther I’d still make the trip cuz it’s worth it. I highly recommend her and her team. Your smile is your first impression to the world. Invest in it.

Let me start this review off by saying my five star rating does not come lightly. I have had my fair share of dentist visits and have hated every single experience before Dr.Fredericks. Due to an enamel defect, I have grown up extremely self conscious of my teeth. After I graduated high school, my parents and grandpa (who is a retired dentist) accompanied me on my mission to find a dentist to correct my teeth. I have researched and witnessed the work of poorly done veneers and was sure to be extremely picky with who does mine. After multiple visits to different offices, I came to Dr. Fredericks and immediately knew she was my match. Not only were her prices great, but she made me feel comfortable (which is a huge thing for me) and excited for my new smile. I was beyond happy with her work and receive compliments on my smile daily. She is so accommodating to my needs and manages to take me in for an appointment right away if necessary. For once I look forward to going to the dentist and have no anxiety about my visits. Go to her, you won’t regret it! Oh, and Susan the receptionist is professional and kind too!

I rarely write reviews, but I am really just blown away by my entire experience here. First of all, Doctor Fredericks (Susan) is the best dentist that I have ever been to. That has to be said right off the bat. SHE IS AMAZING!!! I’m pretty sure most of us dread going to the dentist and I’m so glad that the entire office just has their stuff together. I can’t begin to tell you how I have hated every single dentist I’ve ever gone to.
When I first arrived, I was greeted by front-​desk Susan (not to be confused with Doctor Susan). Office Manager/​Front-​desk Susan is extremely professional, kind, and caring. Exactly the type of person you want to talk to right before seeing the dentist. Especially if you are nervous! She is just awesome. When I went into my first visit, Doctor Fredericks started a plan on how to get me to where I need to be with my overall dental hygiene health. I had a major root canal done and I could barely feel the needle. Doctor Fredericks actually cares about your pain and is aware that you are a human being that just might be uncomfortable. Becky went over the numbers with me and was very clear about the cost.
I FINALLY found my dentist and I’m so happy and relieved. I highly recommend Doctor Fredericks. The overall cost isn’t super cheap, but since when is dental work cheap? It’s also not too expensive. Just know that your teeth are a part of you, and it’s in your best interest to take care of yourself. At least, that’s what I tell myself each time I improve my dental health while paying the visit bill. It’s 100% worth it. Thank you so much Doctor Fredericks. You and your staff are amazing. Don’t ever change.

I have been a patient for over 25 years and my two children have been her patient for the last 20 years. Staff is friendly, professional, caring, understanding and flexible. My son is special needs and Dr. Fredericks is patient and understanding to his needs and works to make sure his visit is as comfortable as possible. I read the reviews from some past patients stating Dr. Fredericks just whizzes in while staff perform most of the work but that is in every dental office. Dr. Fredericks always sees the patient and the best thing about her is she gives you options. Previous Dr.‘s have just given me the most expensive option and I found out later I could of had other options. She is also the most educated top Dentist from UCLA.

I have been a patient of Dr. Fredericks for over 10 years and my husband and two children have been as well. Susan runs a great dental office, from the hygienist to the assistants to the receptionist to the person that handles billing. Her hours are very flexible, and I’ve been in on more than on occasion on a Saturday. Two years ago I moved to Northern California, and I still travel to the LA-​area to see her.
Last week I was travelling to LA, but not for dental care. The morning I was leaving, one of my old crowns came off after flossing. I arrived in town on a Saturday that the office was closed. I texted her (the answering service gives out her personal mobile phone number!) and told her what happened. She was across town but said she would be passing through the area of the office around 6pm and would meet me at the office if it worked for me. We ended up meeting at the office and she reattached my crown. I have come to expect great service, but that took the cake!
If they had six stars I would give Susan a 6-​star review.

My experience with Dr. Susan Fredericks and staff was incredible. From the moment I walked in they made me feel welcomed and a priority. This October my veneers are one year old and I couldn’t be happier. Dr. Fredericks gave me the smile I asked for. She truly listened to what I wanted and gave me my dream smile. I can’t thank her and her incredible staff enough. Thank you all for making a life long dream come true.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST DENTIST AND STAFF! From the moment you walk in you are greeted like they have known you all your life. Always w a warm and friendly smile! They are prompt, never make you wait, and Dr. fredericks cosmetic work is paralleled to none. I recently had a minor issue w my composites that lasted me a solid 2 years, i called the office, they set me up w an appt within two days and she fixed the problem for free. All along making me laugh while sitting in the chair! No dentist has come close to the care she and her staff have shown me!!!

I usually don’t write Unilocal reviews but Dr. Fredericks is amazing! I grew up hating my dental experiences and she has completely changed that. She is thorough and trustworthy. Anytime I have a toothache or any kind of emergency she makes sure to get me in there the same day. She also has great relationships in the dental industry, which is great in case you need an emergency root canal –like I’ve needed many times! Not only does she know what she’s doing, but she has a great eye for design. I chipped my front tooth and after seeing her, it looks better than it ever has!
Oh, and she’s hilarious! I feel comfortable to talk to her about anything.

Dr. Fredericks was recommended by a co-​worker, and despite being a little far from my home (downtown L.A.) I went there for 2 years. Dr. Fredericks and her staff are very polite and professional, and while I feel confident about the level of technology they use in their treatments, I don’t feel that they try to sell or push the use of technology that many other dentists seem to do. I hadn’t been to a dentist for about a year and had to get some fillings done. They did a great job of working with my schedule and insurance/​health savings plan to get the work done. Dr. Fredericks also had some concerns about my perio health, so she recommended a deeper cleaning and more frequent check-​ups to monitor the condition. At my next checkup, all was good and I was back on track for excellent dental health.
Unfortunately, I had to change dentists due to a new job and move to South Orange County. I was shocked when my new dentist told me I needed fillings and perio-​treatment totaling almost $ 4000! It was only 6 months since my last visit, so I knew something wasn’t right. I called Dr. Fredericks to get a consultation and she was able to accommodate me on a Saturday. I made the nearly 2 hour trip, and I’m glad I did. Dr. Fredericks conducted the examination herself and informed me everything was fine, there were just a couple things I needed to monitor and stay with regular check-​ups to prevent issues. Dr. Fredericks gave me an honest evaluation that put me at ease, if my insurance covered it I would stay put and continue to make the trip up. I would definitely recommend Dr. Fredericks to anyone looking for a dentist in the area, it’s worth the trip for top-​notch, honest treatment!

We have known Dr. Fredericks for many years and trust her completely. She and her staff are very kind and helpful… and painless, which is a big plus for cowards like me. I always feel like she has my best interest in mind.

If you MUST have a DENTIST… this is the one to have. Been seeing the girls for 15 years. I hate the damn dentist. Dr. Fredericks is one hell of a dentist. Take my word for it.

I went to Dr. Fredericks around 1995 for permanent bridges. We paid cash up front.
Fredericks did NONE of the work herself EXCEPT for grinding my teeth down to pegs and setting temporaries on the pegs. All four pegs fell off within hours after.
I called the office and was told that she was ON VACATION FOR THE NEXT WEEK!!! They told me to come into the office and new temps would be set. I did. They did. They were again immediately chewed off!
What was she thinking by grinding my teeth down to nubs and then leaving on vacation?!? Certainly NOT thinking of ME.
Oh, BTW, this was no emergency… I had had no teeth there for 15, possibly 20 years. SO WHY DO THIS PROCEDURE BEFORE LEAVING TOWN!?!
I WAS (AM) FURIOUS. I was stuck with four fewer teeth than I went in missing in the first place! SUCH BAD JUDGMENT!
Hope you had fun on your vacation, doc, because you caused one of the worst weeks of my life!
When Dr. F came back she had her TECH put the bridges on, took a peek and blew out of the room.
Why in HELL would you grind someone’s teeth down to nubs, place temporary crowns knowing you were immediately leaving town for a week?!
There’s only one possible explanation: YOU’RE AN IDIOT!!!

I’m fussy about my teeth. My dad and two of my brothers are dentists in the Midwest, and they got me used to top-​of-​the-​line dental care, which is why I’ve been wandering around SoCal, stumbling across the other kind. for the past year and a half. FINALLY I found Dr. Fredericks and her office. You’ll know what I mean when I say the place is as good as my dad’s and my brothers’ practices — excellent dental care with cheerful, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. I know just enough about dentistry to know when things are being done properly. Another plus for me – may not mean anything to you — is that Dr. Fredericks contributes her skills almost every Friday to a free dental clinic. And the last point? I drive 3 hours’ roundtrip to get there. So, yeah, I recommend them highly.

I recommend if you go here you not care about copays. They estimate the cost of your visit at time of your copay and then charge you with a whopping expensive bill afterward and you’re blindsided because they never told you any of this. They hide behind the fact that you’re supposed to consult your own fee schedule through your insurance, but do they tell you that? No. I have never experienced this in my life. I feel scammed.

On the one hand, they were nice enough to let me pay on a payment plan, but when my copay for a regular cleaning/​check up is comparable to my copay for having my wisdom teeth removed, there’s something wrong. When I expressed my dismay, things turned rude. But, really, if you tell someone, yes, you take their insurance, I would really expect that to mean insurance will be covering at least half of the cost. They should know what your copay is going to be before you go, plain and simple.
And I wasn’t really that impressed with the service either. Yes, they were nice enough, but I was left alone for periods of time, but not told why. I’ve never bled that much at the dentist either. In fact, I’ve never bled, but blood was gushing out of my mouth.
I question the friend who recommended this place and will not ever be driving out to their office ever again.

Worst dentist ever. Nightmare office manager.
I went to this dentist for a long time and with «decent» results. But she kept trying to sell me on a new crown. I regret letting her do it.
I called for an appointment. The office manager said she would call me back. She didn’t. I was leaving the area and needed dental work before I left. I called back. Three times.
I finally called Dr. Fredericks directly to express concern. I definitely wish I hadn’t done that. She is passive-​aggressive.
She made the crown, alright. Then she slammed it in and told me «Ok, you’re done.» I felt around with my tongue. There was a jagged edge of dental cement that would have aggravated my tongue in there! I have three other crowns (all nicely smoothed), so I knew it shouldn’t feel like that.
I asked her to fix it. She did, sortof. It’s more than 3 years later. The edge is still jagged and bits of food get trapped in it. My new dentist says it needs to be redone because it was so poorly installed from the start.
There are plenty of other talented dentists in the area. I suggest you find one.

being new in the area and asking a friend that is how I got introduced to Dr. Susan Fredericks and my first impression of her and staff was great. They made me feel like they new me as family from Susan and Sandy at the front desk to Jessics in the back, Añu the hygiene and Dr Susan Fredericks. Very impressed! To begin with, what a nice front staff… Susan is her name as well, she’s been there apparently for over 16 years. You get the feeling that everyone in that office not only enjoys their job but goes out of his or her way to make you feel at ease.
As for the actual visit, from the dental assistant to the hygienist it was swift, comfortable (as a dental visit can get, but the best I’ve had in the 25+ years I’ve been going) and gentle. I was asked every few minutes if I was doing well or felt any pain. Certainly an advanced office using state-​of-​art equipment.
The doctor is extremely friendly and honest. In the past I have been to dentists that suggest that I look into different procedures etc whereas Dr. Fredericks kept her feedback clear and frank. She even left me a follow-​up voice-​mail with a personal note/​message.
I refer anyone, even if it’s a bit of a drive… figure it’s worth it for only twice a year! The office also had ran all my health insurance information beforehand so it saved the waiting game and I was taken in within 5 minutes.

I love Dr. Fredericks. Great office with friendly people and high-​tech equipment. Word of warning which goes for ALL dentists, check insurance coverage BEFORE you get in the chair. Because she has great equipment, if you aren’t covered, it can get pricey.
Definitely recommend her for timid patients. She is very thorough and takes time to explain procedures and answer questions.

BEWARE: HORRIBLE, UNPROFESSIONAL, INCONSIDERATE!
Ignorant & unprofessional staff. My 1^st visit, Dr. F & her asst bad-​mouthed a patient in front of me: discussing a woman who complained about side-​effects she believed were related to her visit. While doing my oral exam they discussed how the complaining woman was «wrong» & was an «idiot» for suggesting it had anything to do with them. I was surprised, but after years without dental care & after a very good referral, I went back.
On my 2^nd visit, another dentist tried to probe my teeth. I explained my teeth were probed on the 1^st visit. He got the receptionist & they talked in hushed voices outside the room. He returned & tried convincing me I was mistaken, showing me no record of the work in my file. I described in graphic detail the sound the machine made & explained the dental asst had to numb my mouth due to severe pain. The dentist apologized profusely & explained I would have to re-​suffer through the ordeal because the paperwork was missing. It appeared to me that the incompetent receptionist (also named Susan) had lost the paperwork for the procedure. I was not happy, but after years without dental care I was reluctant to «shop around» for another dentist.
Over the course of 3 months, I had 4 – 5 visits to Dr. F’s office. I sat with the billing clerk, Sandy, on my 1^st visit & we reviewed what my insurance would cover & what it wouldn’t. I was startled when she said she was «estimating» my charges, as she hadn’t confirmed with my insurance exactly what my coverage was. However, over several visits, I assumed she had contacted them at some point. Meanwhile, I was also paying for a high level PPO, knowing I needed work done. At the end of each visit, I OVERPAID what Sandy «predicted» my portion to be. Sandy & Susan even told me to expect a refund at the end of the year. So I’m sure you can imagine my SHOCK at instead getting a bill for $ 450…after having already paid over $ 500 out of pocket.
When I called the office concerned, I was told my insurance co didn’t cover as much as they expected (with NO explanation). After my own investigation, I determined it was because Dr. F was out-​of-​network & therefore my insurance co covered less. I was appalled Sandy had not called the insurance co to find this out sooner…& if she had, she certainly never told me.
I contacted Sandy & she apologized & said to pay when I could… to take my time & no fees would be accrued, in an attempt to make up for the «error». I was upset, confused & strapped for cash. At Dr. F’s urging, I had gotten InvisAlign just after the new year, costing over $ 6000. Paying Dr. F’s office the unexpected $ 450 put me in a tremendous hardship. Not to mention I felt lied to & mislead. After visiting my orthodontist the first time, I was taken in a room to discuss my insurance coverage & limitations PRIOR to even getting a consultation…& when a concern did come up, the ortho billing clerk pulled out the phone & called the insurance co on the spot! Now THAT is what I expect from a professional office. Not a prediction of what they falsely assumed the insurance would cover, followed by a bill.
Regardless, I STILL sent a payment. A month later, when I got a follow up bill, with a late fee & a letter stating that they’re office attempted to contact me several times to no avail (a bold face lie, as I was the only one making attempts to communicate), I was furious. Clearly the office was telling me one thing & doing another.
Out of frustration but still professional, I wrote Dr. F a letter. I explained I was frustrated with the unprofessional treatment I was receiving, that I felt I was unfairly being bad-​mouthed & I was blindsided with unexpected charges. Along with the letter, I enclosed another payment. Two weeks later, I still had NO response from Dr. F or her staff, but my check was cashed.
I was livid, but I gave Dr. F the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps Sandy deposited the check & never gave her the letter. I decided to make a visit in person. When I got to the office, I was treated worse then I could ever imagine. I was left in a room for almost 30 minutes. Then Dr. F flat our refused to speak with me & her staff harassed me. Sandy & Susan, both who I complained about in my letter, came in the room instead. When I repeatedly asked for Dr. F, Susan said «she said she has nothing to say to you. This is between the 3 of us. Not her.» What do you mean not her?! It’s HER company with HER name on the door. I was appalled. For 30 minutes I pleaded my case, while Susan badgered, ridiculed & trashed me. I was embarrassed & shocked. I’ve NEVER experienced such un-​professionalism in my LIFE.
I left, seeing I was getting nowhere & returned to work & shared my story with coworkers. A week later, when Susan called my coworker to confirm an appt & my coworker canceled. Susan kept her on the phone for 10 minutes, harassing her & adding «it’s too bad one bad apple can ruin it for everyone else.»
