The Mercer – Warner Center

I’ve been here since right before the new management came. The new management has fixed it up a little bit. Less cockroaches. But nonetheless, still a cockroach problem. It is a big complex with a lot of tenants, so of course there is going to be a roach problem. But they need to take care of that… and keep up with it! Huge nasty, scary ones that come through your sink… and I see them in the laundry room often; (I’m going to leave soon.

Worst place I have ever lived and let me tell you I’ve lived in ghetto neighborhoods (darby and vanowen). I lived at the mercer now known as The Reserve, for about a year and during that time we went through apartment hell. We moved in the middle of summer and the A.C. was broken. I had a guy come in and «fix» it at least twice a week. Then one day I come home to find tools and our stuff messed with. I asked my bf if he had called the workers over while I was at work and he hadn’t nor did we put a work order in. I called and complained and the office said someone must have broken in. I let the office know that I had found work tools on the bathroom sink and that the door was locked. The guy told me he must have come through the window… we lived on the 3^rd floor –_​–
A week after moving in we started noticing this horrible stench in our hallway. It smelled like old rotting curry. It wasn’t th scent of freshly cooked indian food but old curry that had been left out in the heat. We complained about it and of course nothing was done. One day I managed to find one of the cleaning crew staff and realized she was using old dirty mop water to clean the walls and floors. When I brought it up to the front office they just said ok thank you.
On top of having staff randomly come into our home and our floor smelling like old food the staff where horrible. New management had purchased the building and they where charging us about $ 200 on top of our rent. I called and left a message three times and no call back. On my day off I managed to make it to the front office before they closed. I let them know that they where charging me the wrong amount and they needed to fix it. The guy was extremely rude and spoke to me like I was stupid just for him to realize there had been a mistake. I paid the correct amount and asked for a receipt the respond I got was «No». I replied with «excuse me, what do you mean no?» He just said no you can’t get a receipt we dont have a way of printing it out. I was so angry I just got up and walked out. I later called and left the manager a voicemail, did not get a call back.
Our neighbors didnt make things easier. Our downstairs neighbor would turn on his radio at 3am everyday without fail and if it wasnt the radio he would scream for hours. We complained but it continued. On laundry day we learned that we had to sit there and make sure our clothes didnt get taken out in the middle of the cycle or stolen. I can not believe that adults would do such a childish thing. I forgot the dryer sheets, I was literally gone for 5min tops when I came back my clothes that where in the washer where on the floor and my dry clothes where half gone. Never did laundry there again after that.
The final straw is when we started noticing roaches and these weird bugs in our place. We complained for about a month until they «called an exterminator». The bugs where gone for a week, thankfully my dad bought us some bug bombs and roach traps. Unfortunately that was not the end of our bug problems. We started noticing small red spots all over us that had us itching for days. We thought it was the new body wash we had been using so we changed it. The red spots kept appearing. We changed our sheets, laundry detergent, anything we could think of that might give us an allergic reaction. Then one day in the middle of the night I woke up to a crawling sensation all over my legs I grab my flashlight and much to my surprise I see bed bugs crawling all over me and my bf! I have never jumped or screamed that loud or high in my life. I ran to the shower and scrubbed for my life lol. My bf sprayed everything with Lysol but I just could not stay knowing that we had small bugs in our home. Apparently we where not the only ones on our floor with this problem. We put in our two weeks notice and found what is now our home. Unfortunately, all our new bedroom furniture we had purchased when we moved into the mercer had to be trashed to prevent transferring the bed bugs to the new house we cleaned and washed every little thing before we moved it into the new place. I feel bad for any renters that live there now.

This place would be a great place to live except for 1 major flaw.
The previous owner of the Reserve at Warner Center, formerly the Mercer at Warner Center, signed a contract with a company that provides internet, land line phone and TV service called Consolidated Smart Systems.
We have lived in this building for 4 years and when we first moved in we signed with Consolidated Smart Systems. Which of course required a 2 year contract. We soon realized, however, that the service they provide is subpar at best. The internet constantly goes in and out or slows down to barely anything. The phone service is staticy, often drops calls, and sometimes the service cuts out completely and you can’t get phone calls in or out. The TV service isn’t bad but you’re only allowed to have DirectTV. Time Warner does service this area, but is banned from this complex due to the contract.
For us, once our contract was up, we decided it was time for a change. We canceled our Direct TV and no longer have TV service at all, and attempted to switch our internet and phone service over to AT&T.
The contract makes it so you cannot get any other TV service other than Direct TV.
For home phone and internet you do have an option of going with AT&T and that is the only other option you can have.
The phone service from AT&T, though offered is impossible to get. Despite many attempts from reps coming to our apartment the signal just flat out wouldn’t come through and we couldn’t even get a dial tone. We ended up giving up on having a landline and now only use our cell phones.
The internet service is a huge problem. The cables for the complex are all located in the parking area and from there are looped through to each apartment. They are old and very corroded and the new management, despite the fact that they are willing to spend the money to tear apart all the walls and apartments to remodel them, will NOT take the time or spend the money to update the cables.
AT&T service suffers because of this. Though they offer a high speed package of up to 12 megs download (which is bad enough as it is, considering cable internet download speeds can reach up to 100 mb down), you can’t get even the 12 mb download speed to work at this complex. Attempting this only makes the service unstable and often you end up with no more than 1 or 2 mb down. The only way to stabilize the service is to lower the speed package down to 6 mb down, and even then what you actually get is between 4 and 5.5.
This is extremely unacceptable, and it’s all in the name of forcing people to choose the poor service provided by Consolidated Smart Systems over the even poorer service from AT&T in order for the owner to make that much more in kick backs per new Consolidated Smart Systems customer.

a lot of roaches !!!

NEVER EVER LIVE HERE. The leasing department make it sounds like they are in the process of remodeling everything and don’t disclose everything. Ive been here for about a year but due to my aunts failing health i am unable to move right now.
This place is filled with rats, bedbugs and roaches. The laundry area is always a hot mess and someone is always stilling your cloths. As much as they claim its handicap assessable its not. And when ever you complain they don’t care. Especially the property manager Amber Campaign. She never returns calls and just ignores any issue. When i went into the office to confront her, she immediately closed her door and had them ask me to email her.
Now with the Home Invasion that happen today at the complex I going to try to move out ASAP.
I can go on and on but i suggest you look somewhere else. Try Bella Vista down the street; I am.

My friend, I’ll call him Bob, is a current tenant at The Mercer, but he wanted to move. So as the application process goes, you apply at another apartment building and they call your previous landlords for a rental verification. After unanswered phone calls and much prompting, it took The Mercer FOUR days to send the rental verification over. Now, one of the questions on this verification was «Was proper notice given?» The answer was yes. Then at the bottom was some space for comments and they actually wrote «Good luck Bob!» So when Bob’s application was approved at this new place, The Mercer told him that he COULDN’T leave because he DIDN’T give proper notice!!! How unfair is that?! Bob was so upset! And now he has to live under their unfair practices for another 30 days!
