Would not recommend. I live very close by and have never seen anyone eat here for the past two years. However, I decided to give this place a try anyway because I love Thai food and thought that perhaps people just order take out and never sit down. I was not rewarded. I ordered three appetizers: two kinds of dumplings and the roti. The roti was good, but that’s difficult to mess up. It’s literally bread and sauce and I’m pretty sure neither were homemade. One of the dumplings was decent, but nothing to write home about. The other one, duck dumplings, were disgusting. And I love duck! Do not order from here. There’s a reason it’s always empty.

Between a 2 and 3; i’ve had better, but its not exactly«A-OK». Since i’m feeling nice, ill round up to 3. While I’ve never dined in the restaurant or ordered on the phone(seamless all the way), i can’t speak to the customer service skills. However, the food is decent for Americanized Thai and a solid/affordable choice for the area since Thai Origin closed down(still sad about that). The portions are large and prices are not bad at all. The lunch special is a really great deal if you are ordering noodles; however, if you get curry or chicken, they tend to give you a much smaller bowl. Either way, there is a large selection of options for lunch at $ 6.95(soda or soup included). I’ve tried alot of different items off the menu, with the caveat being that most of the time its been chicken. That being said, my go-tos and recommendations are Drunken Noodles, Green & Massaman Curries and the Coconut Soup(Tom Ka). I also really like the coconut rice for dessert, its very sweet and nice little treat if you aren’t full from the rest of the meal. An item I would strongly recommend staying away from are the Hoy Joe Crab Dumplings. I don’t know what the hell was inside, but it resembled wet Friskies cat food more than crab. I took a bite, spit it out and threw the others away because I didn’t even want it on the table with the rest of my food.

I have not been to the restaurant in person but I have ordered food from them on several occasions. I discovered Thai Malay Café through seamless. They have a good lunch menu special with a variety of options for $ 6.95. The lunch special comes with a choice of a soda, a thai ice tea or a soup. The Thai ice tea isn’t that great, I would not recommend it. I haven’t tried the soup yet. I would recommend the Pad Thai or the Pad See Ew. They were both good. Overall, this place is good for the price, if you’re getting the lunch special. Delivery is usually prompt and the food is always warm.

We were in the mood for«typical» Thai food — the inoffensive, Americanized kind that’s becoming a go-to in the bland college town abysses of America. Thai Malay’s pad thai had too-firm noodles, and a flavor that recalled ketchup more than it did tamarind(or anything else in typical pad thai: peanut, shallot…). The drunken noodles had tons of bamboo shoot, and not nearly enough of the basil that’s supposed to define pad khee mao. There was no «wok flavor,» either. Thai cuisine is nearly always enjoyable! …but this was weirdly unenjoyable. Portion sizes are decent, and they’re one the few neighborhood Thai restaurants open on Mondays. But I wouldn’t say this even hits my idea of average Thai food, Americanized or not. I had better in my own Midwestern college town — except there, it cost less.

DONOTGETFOODHERE, I REPEATDONOT. They have terrible customer service skills an employee actually yelled at me on the phone when I called about my order being almost two hours late and my food cold when I live only 6 blocks away.(this is not the first time) They are extremely rude and the their food size portion is very small compared to other nearby Thai restaurants. The whole experience with dealing with Thai Malay Café was the worst I have every experienced, save your money and time and go elsewhere

This place is right downstairs from me and I still prefer to go elsewhere. I’ve given it numerous chances but I just never really enjoy the food.

Let’s recall that two stars means, «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» That’s a pretty accurate description for my dining experiences with Thai Malay. We ordered delivery of a few items, and here’s the roundup, The Vegetarian spring rolls are just alright — they feel oily inside, but the flavors and wrapper are nice. Spicy sauteed eggplant with beef features tough, bland meat and a lackluster sauce. The Tom Yum soup with shrimp is another hit-or-miss, I gather, since the broth was delicious but our order was completed with only a handful of veggies and the sole shrimp that I sampled was, without a doubt, the oldest and saddest piece of previously-frozen animal that I have ever had the misfortune of tasting. No kitchen should be using such dreadful frozen goods that they either look or taste as poorly as they did in that soup. Much room for improvement, folks. On a previous dine-in, the Roti appetizer was so-so(featuring a small chunk of obviously freezer-burned potato in the otherwise good curry); the Tom Ka soup with chicken featured a tasty broth but flavorless boiled chicken pieces; and the Drunken Noodle was fair, but not spicy enough for our tastes.

Consistently good! Portions are great and large, and they are extremely generous with the tofu! Food is ready FAST and the staff are all very kind and sweet. We have only had carry-out from this restaurant. We always get pad thai and pad see ew. We have also gotten their spring rolls. All is very tasty. Last plug: we eat thai food all the time, and this place rivals all those in Woodside and Sunnyside.

I cant believe this. I ordered shrimp green curry for lunch special and it costs over $ 9 which added $ 3 shirimp in regular green curry but has 3 shirimp with few countable short noodles. Called back to ask them if this is right and they said this is how it looks like and also asked them what is regular price and is was $ 12. All i could do is laugh. Im not ordering anything in this restaurant never again.

I really enjoy the food here. They’re ingredients are like no other thai restaurant I’ve been to. I’ve been a vegetarian for the past year now & this place is a real treat every once in a while. Love itt!!!

Quality is way down. I got scallion pancakes — they were awful! Paper-y and with barely any scallions. And the dipping sauce was not good. I also got a soup, which was not flavorful. Sorry to see this place go downhill.

I’ve eaten in here and ordered delivery from here a few times, but not the last time was probably two months ago and I don’t think I’ve experienced the new ownership. I’m writing based on my experiences, and will update as soon as I try the new version. The actual restaurant is really tiny, but comfortable and the service is great! The meals really taste home cooked. The sauces are thin but still flavorful, and not greasy and over salted like a lot of places. The sauces don’t taste like mass produced restaurant sauces that have been sitting around for awhile. The Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, Massaman Curry, and Mee Goreng are just delicious! I think the Pad Kee Mao was my favorite! I really love the flat noodles they use here and they way they prepare them here! Usually they are darker in color because of the sauce they absorb, but here they are very light yet somehow still very flavorful. I love the Thai tea from here and the lunch specials are awesome because they still have good sized portions! yum!

Note: I dined here a few months ago, so this review is from back then. Seeing these new one-star reviews is starting to worry me… One thing that I love about this place is that the food tastes like it’s home cooked. It doesn’t have the heavier restaurant taste or feel to it. The flavors are rich, all the vegetables are fresh and crisp, and the service is very friendly. It doesn’t so much feel like you’re dining out at a restaurant, but it feels more like you’re dining in the owner’s home who’s welcomed you in with generous hospitality. I’ve had the Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, Massaman Curry, and Mee Goreng which are all delicious. The noodles are well prepared, all the sauces were on point, and their curry is what I use as a benchmark when comparing curries from other Thai restaurants. Lunch specials here are great. No skimping on the portions, and you can get a Thai iced tea as an included lunch special extra!

2 hours to get a delivery. They weren’t answering the phone at first and then kept telling me the guy was on his way. Don’t order from here if you’re hungry or you’ll die from starvation. And the food– I’ve never had anything so dry and bland in my life.

This is the first, and saddest update I’ve ever had to write on Unilocal. Thai Malay –was– my absolute favorite delivery spot in the neighborhood. I never gave the other Thai places the time of day — even the big«S» — because I loved Thai Malay so much. I would salivate on Sundays waiting around knowing I’d be ordering my favorite pig-out meal to accompany Breaking Bad or Mad Men. No longer. Girlfriend and I ordered a few days ago to find the exact same problems as other updaters have posted. The chicken massaman curry, once my favorite thing on earth, was watery, way smaller, the chicken was practically potato-chip hard, and THEREWEREENTIRESTAR-SHAPEDCHUNKSOFSPICE just floating, unbroken, in the curry sauce. It feels like the previous owners maybe left behind a list of recipes for the menu and the new folks have no idea how to cook anything. We were told we’d get our usual free order of curry puffs to accompany our meal, and only realized when we got home that we were charged for those. The curry puffs were totally different and flavorless. The ravioli dumplings, once a big fave, were hard and it seemed like someone just dumped a bunch of spice powder ontop of them. I wish I’d known the original owners were selling so I could’ve had a final meal at what used to be my favorite restaurant in all of Woodside. Are you guys reading this? Are you cooking anywhere else these days? Could I offer you $ 25 every Sunday so I could get my good old Sunday-Funday meals again? This is the biggest letdown ever. Stay away. Life sucks.

To my understanding Thai Malay Café is under new ownership. I was a big fan of Thai Malay ordering regularly so I immediately noticed some of the changes this new ownership brought. We ordered the Panang Curry with chicken, a creamy dish that used to be accompanied with a hefty amount of eggplant and broccoli. No longer! as the eggplant and broccoli have been replaced with string beans and pineapple. A confusing twist to this favorite dish of ours. We also ordered the Pad Kee mao, a delicious dish of thick noodles. Previous owners would pile on those noodles with a tangy spicy kick. I asked for extra spicy and the noodles were in a watery semi-spicy liquid. Disappointing… The only thing I ordered that was on par with what I expected was the Massaman Curry which was delicious and creamy. Perhaps my stars would be higher if the price of the whole dish was lower. Normally I pay about 21 – 23 dollars for 3 dinner dishes so I was surprised to get a bill of 27 dollars for dishes that were smaller than what we got before. Less for more doesn’t sit well with me. Perhaps I’ll be willing to give Thai Malay another shot later on down the road.

My first Thai Malay experience was with delivery a few months ago. My girlfriend and I ordered the ravioli dumplings and they were really delicious. The peanut sauce on top of them is what makes them a winner. For my entrée, I ordered the massaman curry, which is usually a safe choice at the various thai places I’ve been to. But Thai Malay’s massaman curry had next-to-no flavor. It was almost impressive how bland it was. My girlfriend ordered something different. I forget what it was, but I remember it was pretty good, so I was willing to give Thai Malay another shot in the future. It took a while for me to get back, but this past weekend my girlfriend’s family was in town and we decided to dine-in at Thai Malay. We, again, ordered the ravioli dumplings and they were still delicious. This time I went with the Malaysian curry and I asked for it extra spicy. When my food came out, the waiter said«Malaysian curry, extra spicy», so I thought my request had been heeded. Alas, it had not. It was about as spicy as I would expect it to be had I made no special request(that is, not very). I get very annoyed when my requests for extra spiciness are not taken seriously, especially at a Thai restaurant(I Am Thai’s «extra spicy», for example, is extremely spicy). To be sure, my food was good. Much better than my first Thai Malay experience. My girlfriend and her family seemed pleased with their food, so they’re obviously doing a few things right here. For me, Thai Malay has been just«pretty good». I might end up going back and updating my review. But with I Am Thai less than a block from my apartment, I may not be back for a while.

Let’s file this under D for Delicious. It’s tiny inside — if you’re planning to eat there, you should think long and hard about who you bring. Stick to the A list only. The dumplings are awesome and so were the curries/noodles. We had a large group and a lot of different dishes — everything was good… not to mention inexpensive. Colin, the owner, is pretty hilarious. Seems like a chill dude

I would really give them 3.5 stars. When I lived in Woodside 3 years ago, the food used to be delicious, rich, satisfying. My favorite dish used to be the Fantastic Four, an eggplant, potato, greenbean and tofu curry. When I ordered it recently, it was runny, bland, and tasted cheap. I was really disappointed because I had craved that dish for 3 years. The prices have increased, but it’s still pretty cheap. The service is friendly and extremely fast. My new favorite dish is their Shrimp Pad Thai, but I miss my awesome Fantastic Four.
