I grew up in Woodside and this was where my family and I got bread and soda bread every week. However, the prices have gone up so much so that we stopped coming here completely. We used to buy soda bread here for $ 3 – 4 and now it’s $ 7? That’s a big jump. The regular bread prices have also skyrocketed. It’s too bad, considering this bakery has some great food — but not worth the price for Woodside.

Stopped by here on a whim when I was in the neighborhood. I can never resist old school Italian bakeries with cookies piled up in the window. Great staff and cookies!

I got a blueberry pie there. Was very excited to get it home, warm it up, and have with vanilla ice cream. The filling was a bit too sweet for my taste but more than anything I was very disappointed in the ‘pie crust’?? I’d never seen a ‘pie’ like it… instead of being a typical somewhat dry pie crust, it was more like a thin cake bottom, and the criss-​cross strips across the top of the pie were more like thin pieces of cake… nothing llke a typical pie crust.

I have to say born and raised in New York the competition is tough but i do have to say every pastry I tried here was amazing. And if your like me every Italian knows a good rainbow cookie when they taste it… BREATH TAKING. I even had a question and the mother, son, and daughter all came out to assist me. Cant ask for anything else.

Any place that puts rainbow cookies and sfogliatelle side-​by-​side in the display case so that I don’t have to waste my mental processing on anything else is a winner in my book!
Joking aside, this classic Italian bakery under the train station is nice to have. The Italian cookies are always fresh and good, and candystriped string on bakery boxes will never cease to be awesome.
But being obsessed with good sfogliatelle is an intrinsic part of my being. And they make the worst sfogliatelle I have ever had.
Where is my architectural phyllo dough and pillowy, citrusy ricotta!!! I keep trying, out of faith and wanting to support a long-​standing local business, but the sfogliatelle here are NEVER fresh. Multiple times, they’ve been legitimately inedible — stale outside, with completely hardened, rubbery, cold ricotta inside.
I asked once what day (s) of the week they typically bake their sfogliatelle — mostly to know when to catch them, but also to convey that the ones I’ve bought have been less than fresh — but they either don’t have a schedule or refused to tell me.
Considering the situation of the sfogliatella, I’m not even sure the cookies are baked by them on premises. Either way, stick with the cookies.

After reading about V&V in WSJ ⁰⁸⁄₁₃ and NYT 5/​14, on our Sunday visit they carried few Italian items (no pignoli, a lot of mainstream Americanized goods), and annoyingly prominently displayed a sign for Irish Soda Bread in the window (post-​St. Pat’s, no less). Went baba al rhum (no cream) for $ 2.95 (an annoying amount when cash only) but was not impressed.

Expensive for the neighborhood, but quite good and something of an anomaly for the area.

This is like an opium den for the sugar addict. Love this place for its deliciousness but also for its nostalgia. It has been there for as long as I remember (30 plus years) and if the sign is any indicator that would be more like 50 plus years? I have to ask next time! Descriptors: almond paste galore; Rainbow cookies, the smell of caramelizing sugar & freshly baked breads. My most recent visit was brought on by the spirit of St. Patrick: I was fiending for some Irish Soda Bread so I stopped in to see if they had any. My half– Irish luck– it just came out of the oven, too hot to slice! Have mercy, gluttony is a deadly sin! This delights and frightens me because that means I have to decide portion size. Right off the bat, I can smell this is not traditional soda bread at all — nor should it be since it is an Italian bakery. Their version of soda bread is more like an Irish Soda muffin or cake — whatever they invented over there it is worth having a go at it; I could not stop eating it. Unfortunately, I still want some soda bread but my sweet tooth has been satisfied for sure! I will be back soon for my next fix — maybe St. Joseph or St. Anthony?

Great old school Italian bakery, vintage signs in the front of the store, plus that old school feel when you walk in. In the front they have glass cases filled with cookies, deserts and behind the case shelves lined with breads and more deserts. When you turn around there are cakes in the fridge. Then you see another section that is sort of divided and covered up and that is where all the baking magic happens. The space is pretty small but they do use it wisely.
I can never just walk by this bakery without going in especially if I am in the area already. I love their varieties of breads, desserts, plus cookies. I have bought a lot of cookies and deserts from them in the past and they have always been delicious. I really can’t explain it, their deserts are just plain solid just like they were when I was growing up. Their prices are on par for what they offer and it’s worth every cent. The staff is really nice and attentive, plus I have always had a great experience here..

Good pastries but really bad customer service. I came in and bought assorted mini-​pastries and I wanted to split some for my family so I asked for an extra box because I wasn’t yet sure which one I wanted to give them. She said «$ 1» for it… I stared at her thinking, wow, what a stellar way to want me to come back loyally. I spoke to my sister and said my mother was charged a $ 1 to put a name on a cake. Are you kidding? Maybe if your customer service was better, you wouldn’t need to be so frugal with your customers and you would make more profit. I’d rather save my money for a place that didn’t just eye you as a dollar sign because let’s be realistic, you’re selling Italian pastries — not a rare commodity.

Amazing little bakery in Woodside. I’ve past this place so many times for years and never went in. Finally went in and picked up a strawberry shortcake and it was amazing. So light and tasty. The staff are really nice. The only thing is that is CASH only!

My dad went to this barker growing up so ultimately I went here growing up. They have an amazing assortment of cookies as well as fantastic bread. I always swing by here when people visit because they have to try these authentic treats.

Don’t just walk by this place, go in!
With a couple of different experiences from this place under my belt, I think I can give a pretty fair and accurate assessment. So hear me out!
Croissants– they are good in the morning; take them home, slice them in half, and toast them up with some butter, cream cheese, or jam, and bam! They are fantastic! Do keep in mind that exposure to the afternoon air does rob them of their freshness, making them stale and dry, so get them early.
Bagels– they are larger-​looking, but actually seem lighter/​fluffier in texture than your average bagel. They come in semolina too. They get a check plus for also selling bialys! I had an onion poppy-​seeded bialy, which was SO good. They can put cream cheese on these babies for you, but they don’t toast anything here, so forget about the possibility of that warm, cream cheese bagel. They need to seriously invest in a toaster. Sadly, they are a bit skimpy with the cream cheese. Maybe next time I’ll ask for an extra dollop.
Fresh sliced bread– I’ve tried the wheat and semolina. Don’t forget to ask to slice them for you. The price is unbeatable for fresh bread.
Cookies and other sweets– you must must MUST get the the Italian cookies. In general, I usually don’t like cookies, I usually just don’t care for desserts that aren’t doused in chocolate. But, these Italian butter cookies, especially the ones that are half dipped in chocolate with some chewy jam in between are TO DIE FOR. The mini eclairs are fresh and pretty yummy too, but I just can’t stop thinking about the cookies.

Suspicion confirmed. The BEST fresh made RAINBOW COOKIES I’ve had in a while.
Like I said earlier these are sold by the pound and it can get pretty pricey. A half pound between $ 6 – 7 gets me about 8 cookies but they’re worth it! They’re not small like those pre-​packaged ones from the supermarket either.
Service is super friendly. And once you see other items staring you in the face, it’s hard to leave with just one. Some items may be less flavorful than others but prices are cheap!

Best bakery and especially best butter cookies in NYC. I grew up a few blocks from this place and have tried many cookies from many NYC bakeries. These are by far the best. They’re soft but crunchy enough and the raspberry filling has the perfect consistency. The rainbow cookies are awesome too! The cakes are always fresh and very tasty. The bread is yummy as well. Def worth a taste if you’re in the neighborhood!

The first time I came to this place was years ago. A few years have went by since I frequented this place again. It’s not a fancy place. They don’t have fancy stuff. Just traditional Italian baked goods. I haven’t tried everything. I usually get cookies, and canoli. They have the best canoli!!! The cream is nice and light without chocolate chips. I hate chocolate chips in canoli cream. Today, I got lucky. I got my canolis filled to order. It was amazing as usual. What’s also awesome is the rainbow cookie. They sell that by the pound, so it does get kinda pricey, but worth it. The pignoli cookies, and other ones with jam in between are all awesome too. Very fresh as well. Give this place a try!

This bakery is exemplifies how a little extra customer service can put a small business on the radar of a non-​Queens resident. I’m here to spread the word of the incredibly pleasant experience I had here earlier this afternoon.
I was in Queens visiting a friend, and I wanted to pick up a momento from a local bakery to commemorate my trek out to Woodside. I open up my trusty Unilocal app, and although there were only 18 reviews, V&V appeared to be one of the better rated options in the immediate area. Off I go.
LOCATION: V&V is nestled underneath to the Woodside MTA station overpass on Roosevelt Avenue. I was a bit hesitant to enter at first, because the bakery appears to share an entrance with a floral store. Bakery to the left, floral shop to the right.
SERVICE: Once inside, I was warmly welcomed by Joe, the owner of the bakery. His family has owned the bakery since 1972. He asked me what cookie I liked (rainbow and pignoli), and instructed the staff to prepare two cookies for me to try. He also gave me a freshly dipped chocolate covered strawberry. What great service!
I decided to take 1.5lbs of cookies to-​go, which came out to $ 17.25, total. Not a bad price, considered all the different selections I walked out with. See picture for a reference.
The cookies were very tasty, meriting 4 stars. There was a wide range of jams, fillings, and cookies to choose from. But, I’d emphasize again that it’s the customer service from Joe & the ladies at the counter that prompts me to give V&V a 5star rating. I encourage my fellow Unilocal elites to give this place a shot!

Still worth it though imo. They make a kick ass pignoli cookie as well as rainbow cookies and italianlemon drop cookies too! Their breads are very good, not too salkty either, Haven’t tried their cakes yet but it seems they are hit since I’ve seen people always pick up either aready baked one or a custom ordered on each time i’ve gone. The staff is super nice and very patient when you can’t make up your mind and your standing there deciding whether to be moderate or be a glutton.

THIS SWEATY, HOT & HUMID BAKERY IS… good. Not great, but good. I mean, just take a look at their fresh & big buns… right out of the oven. So tempting, eh?
I loved their strawberry cream tart. The cream was just so… creamy and tasty. Too bad it’s only a piece of strawberry. WHY ARE PEOPLE SO GREEDY WITH STRAWBERRIES NOW? I mean, strawberries rot easily and of all the strawberry tarts displayed, they’ve probably used say, 5 strawberries, max. That’s not even a whole box! If I find a half rotten strawberry next time in my tart, I’m suing.
Their apple turnover could be so much better… without the super sweet glazed coating. I don’t want to be super hyper, man. The turnover tasted like a sugar cookie. really didn’t have much of a taste.
