Specialties

The Worcester Center for Crafts is an Experience, a Place, a Passion.

The Center offers courses and workshops in Glass, Ceramics, Photography (darkroom & digital), Enameling, Metalsmithing and Blacksmithing/forging. Adult classes are taught at a variety of times and lengths including 6-week and one-night. Teen classes are taught after-school. In addition, professional glass artists can rent blow-time at our Glass Studio.

The Center’s year-round Krikorian Gallery offers a changing schedule of exhibits that feature many artistic mediums and ideas and helps to create visibility and a marketplace for artists.

The Gallery Store sells work by over 200 American artists. The Store’s offerings include wearable art, prints, photographs, ceramic and glass serving pieces, jewelry, and more. The Store carries Simon Pearce glass including presentation pieces and everyday functional ware.

The Center’s work is done on three campuses: 25 Sagamore Road for Ceramics, Metals, digital Photography, the Krikorian Gallery, the Gallery Store, and the Center Offices; 35B New Street for the Glass Studio; and on the campus of Worcester State University for darkroom Photography.

An Artist-in-Residence Program allows young artists to work with us for 1 – 2 years to hone their studio practice in a caring community of support.

The Worcester Center for Crafts partners include the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Worcester Cultural Coalition, and Worcester State University

History

Established in 1856.

The Worcester Center for Crafts plays an important role in maintaining central New England’s edge in crafts education, advocacy and entrepreneurship. It is a non-profit, community-based arts organization established as the Worcester Employment Society, an organization that saw the value of Craft in improving the quality of life for residents. It’s mission today – to sustain craft as important to the community and society – carries on the tradition of economic and aesthetic empowerment. The Center continues its work today through an alliance and partnership with Worcester State University but maintaining its independence with a volunteer board and support from the community.
