I went here to watch a game. Sat at the bar w/friends to have dinner, we were commenting about something, I turned to a gentlemen(appx 60) & said«right friend?» he said«you’re not my friend you need to shut your f – king mouth and turn the f – k around» so I chewed him out. I’ll be damned if someone will blatantly disrespect me & no one including the staff stood up for me, the bartender reprimanded me & told me & the man to «take it outside» I’m a woman! He’s suggesting that we settle it in the parking lot? I’m disturbed by this whole situation. I left. Someone i know texted me after I left & told me the man was not asked to leave. This establishment Will allow their regulars to intimidate, bully or disrespect people from out of town it’s not worth it. I’ve been here maybe 5 times and it’s a bunch of drunk local low life’s every time. I only came back because it was near to the beach I go to. But I will NEVER go back to this local dive

The food is excellent and all of the bartenders are amazing. The waitstaff however, not so much. They frequently mess up the orders and are VERY slow moving. That being said most of the waitstaff is at the very least friendly, just clearly under trained. I definitely recommend the Brick Oven Roll Ups and Spring Rolls! Actually, all of the appetizers are wonderful.

Came here last week for an early dinner and was disappointed… as was my dining companion. First, be aware that the year-round population on Cape Cod consists mainly of the over-65 crowd. The bar area at Oliver’s is definitely more lively– I have been there several times with members of the under-65 crowd and it’s always been pretty average. This review is for the dining room area: Crab cakes with roumelade sauce(special request) Taco salad with chicken and no cheese Side salad with blue cheese dressing Hot tea Cucumber and tonic(with soda water instead of tonic) BADNEWS: The hot tea arrived in a leaky creamer-pourer. It literally spilled all over the table when I went to pour my tea. I told the waitress, but she didn’t address the issue, as evidenced by her failing to bring another napkin, saucer, other tea, or even offering to do these things. So when I ordered another tea I just poured it so it leaked all over the scuzzy carpet instead of my table. Meh, that’s probably WHY the carpet looks that way. The crab cakes came with tartar sauce. My mother notified the manager because our waitress was m.i.a. She returned with a container of the same thing saying that«the chef labeled it roumelade». Oh how I wanted to either 1) bust this chef’s balls or 2) ask for the missing roumelade ingredients so that we could make it ourselves correctly! We are from the deep south originally; let me tell you, roumelade is a mayonnaise-based sauce with Creole mustard, chili &/or hot sauce mixed in… the rest is up to the discretion of the chef. You can include diced cornichons(tiny pickles) like tartar sauce, but the mustard and hot sauce are staples of the recipe– otherwise it’s damn tartar sauce. The taco salad was a decent size. No complaints there, other than that there was way too much sour cream. I didn’t intend to make a dip, but yeah, maybe that’s what some people do here with their salad. As an aside, you’re offered 3 levels of spiciness for the salsa. The highest level, suicidal, is what us fans of fire would call moderate heat. The blue cheese dressing for the side salad hadn’t been remixed. When a restaurant orders this in bulk, it comes in a about a 2 gallon bucket and is very chunky. To make it more accessible as a dressing(versus a clunky, globby dip), it needs to be «watered down» just a bit with milk or cream. So, yeah, they don’t do that here… rendering the patron to figure out how to mix a Velveeta-textured substance with crisp veggies. GOODNEWS: There are lovely, updated light fixtures. Yet, the only thing these seem to go with are the salt-water fish tanks. These, by the way, are situated in an area where the majority of dining patrons cannot see them, but only the bar patrons. The cucumber tonic situation was a win. It was comprised of a cucumber-based vodka and, upon the waitresses suggestion, I got it with soda water instead. Very refreshing. The crab cakes had a generous amount of crab and were decently seasoned. The side salad was average in terms of freshness. The service is average. Oliver’s will continue to make it because if the lack of dining choices on the Cape, particularly in this section of town. Don’t make a special trip though.

With family living right down the road, we eat here often both dine in and take out. They have a good beer selection and the food is consistent. I’ve had most of the menu and can remember only one bad dish — the monte cristo. The desserts are surprising delicious too! Service can be hit or miss sometimes, especially in the dinner rush. We usually sit at the bar, which I prefer to tables. Overall it’s a good, affordable option and one of the better year round establishments in the area. L

The food is OK, but the service at the BARSUCKS! Went in to night for a drink and dinner. The bartender ignored me and waited on people who came in after me. .Probably expected a bigger tip. Treated me like II wasn’t even there. Guess I’ll go somewhere where they’ll take my money!

Wow what a great place on the Cape. This is an exceptionally informal and friendly place. We have been going there for nearly 10 years. During the off-season, the«regulars» are the main clients. The place is well-run and clean. The bar is inviting and always has a great selection of on-tap beers(my favorite). The food is quite good, having mastered the essentials of a Cape Cod restaurant i.e. seafood and shellfish foods on the menu being prepared and presented well. The service can be a little«spotty» during the peak tourist weeks, but the place is absolutely hopping during that time and the wait-staff do the best they can. The good news is that there is little turnover in the management and bar-staff, and they represent the stability that makes this place special…

I love Oliver and Planks! A wonderful tradition of our summers on the Cape … excellent food, wonderful service, classy, clean and a great bar. We always bring visitors and have never been disappointed. The seafood Mac N Cheese is to die for.

Great bar and restaurant if your looking for a place that locals visit and has a neighborly feeling. The fish was excellent and the steak and scallop dish amazing. But the best part was the Mud Pie for desert. This is a must!!!

Friday night at 8pm on the bar side: I’m not sure how they made sweet potato fries taste like dishwater, but they did. Praying fries weren’t actually seasoned with dishwater. Fish tacos were oily fried fish slathered in cheap cheese. The slaw was bland. Burger was okay!

My husband had the ribs and loved them. I had veal. It was inedible. Too much cheeee so the sauce was lost. When I scraped that off I came to soggy greasy undercooked breading. When I scraped that away instead of a thin cut piece of veal there was one of those machine tenderized hunks you see in supermarkets. Or used to. If you go here eat the fish simply prepared.

Holy. Amazeballs. This meal was so serendipitous for us. It couldn’t have been more wonderful. Our plans for places to eat fell through not once today, but twice. We were driving 6A just hoping we’d come across some place to eat and were even willing to settle. Thankfully, we did not. I came in here without knowing what to expect, and little did I know I was walking into a place with some of the most amazing seafood on the Cape without having to pay top dollar, or see it drowned in grease(though, they do have fried seafood it’s just not on my to-do list to be quite honest). Karen was a wonderful server, sharp witted and pleasant. Our drinks were always full, and she was attentive without being in the way. You always dream of having a server like her; they know what they’re doing, they make sure you’re taken care of, but they don’t hover or make you feel rushed. Now, I’m unfortunately a bit under the weather with Crohn’s so I was not able to stuff myself with all of the delicious food, but I split an appetizer of stuffed quahogs and the large lobster roll with my boyfriend. Every bite I wished for another, no matter what pain would befall my intestines afterwards because [insert explicative] it was worth it. So delicious. And they don’t scrimp on your seafood. There’s a lot of it, in every bite. The clam chowder was the best I’ve had in years and I live in New England. I know my chowder. Every bite was crammed with fresh, delicious clams. The stuffed quahogs were so good; every bit as classic and delicious and perfectly done as one could wish and with PLENTY of quahog. None of this mostly breading crap that a lot of places try to pull off. And then we come to the large lobster roll. Here’s the difference between the large and the small: the large comes with chowder and slaw or steak cut fries. And this isn’t some fill a bun half full with lettuce then place a few chunks of lobster. There was claw meat, and plenty. Somebody went through and shelled those guys and I’m so thankful because hot damn, it was heavenly. Sweet, light, delicious lobster without fillers. Small layer of lettuce for the perfect crunch, and then just overflowing with lobster. I had one mission on my trip to Cape Cod this year, and that was to show my boyfriend what it is to be from New England, properly introducing him to my summer time home away from home since childhood. While I knew I had the thrift shops and beaches and touristy stuff down, I wasn’t sure what to do about good seafood before the season started. Well let me tell you– doesn’t matter when you go, this place is always the standout choice for the classic, dyed in the wool New England fare.

This wasn’t our first visit and it won’t be our last. We can’t say enough good things about this place. We’ve never been disappointed with anything we’ve had here. Today was just a lunch visit so we went with a bunch of appetizers. Chicken nachos are a must here. There is’t a naked chip on the plate. My husband’s favorite thing about the nachos is that the salsa and sour cream on the side so that the nachos aren’t soggy. The Boneless Chicken Wings were crispy and delicious. The Ranch Potato Skins are the best skins anywhere! Don’t be embarrassed when you scrap the extra cheese of the plate… everyone does. Today was the first time we tried the clam strips. Are we glad we did! They were cooked perfectly. A crispy batter but the strips weren’t overcooked. Yum! We couldn’t leave without dessert. The mud pie was delicious with hot fudge topping and whipped cream. There are complaints on Unilocal about the atmosphere. I think that’s people just being picky. In our opinion the bar side is fun and loud if that’s what you’re in the mood for and the restaurant side is quiet when you’re in the mood for that! All in all this is one of our favorites and you can never go wrong here!

Just okay. Close to the 99 style food.(I actually like 99 better)! I stick to a turkey wrap and veggies which is delicious. Seafood– eh– my husband tried it all and not pleased every time but ate it. Deep fried Is hard to mess up tho so stick to that if ordering seafood. The fancier fish dinners I would say stay clear of. IJust my opinion;) Wait staff is pleasant but they do get VERY busy and we have had repeated waits for drinks and checking out at both table and bar.

A nice, quiet restaurant with great staff and a much better bar. The dining area has awesome 80’s/90’s muzak. The food is basic, well cooked fare; no points for décor or pretty dishes. I enjoy this place much more in the tavern area as opposed to the proper dining area. The décor reminds me of a diner with wall to wall carpets, it is dimly lit and has a subdued, almost medicated vibe. Overall, a great place to bring the grandparents for a sit down dinner but I highly recommend the bar area over the dining space.

My wife and I have been coming to Oliver’s for years, and we’re always excited to go back. Sometimes we visit more often than we should, but it’s difficult for us to decide to go elsewhere when we know our friends there are going to do such a great job making us feel at home, and making us feel like valued customers. Never mind«valued customers», they treat us like family. We sit at the bar most of the time because we love the bartenders. They always have new jokes for us, and will always let me know what sort of new and interesting things they have to drink. Be it spirits or beer, they’ve always got a good selection. They’re quick and friendly too! It’s money well spent when you leave a tip, because they work hard for it, and if you have a weird request like, «could I have croutons on just the left side of the salad,» or, «could I have three forks,» they’ll make it happen. And speaking of the food, I’ve always loved the menu because it isn’t overwhelmingly huge, but there’s still something on it for everyone. There’s a seasonal section too, which always has interesting and delicious dishes on it. But I think my favorite item on the entire thing is the rump steak. I ate a lot of haddock fingers there in my time, which are great, but the rump steak is what I’m always craving, and when I don’t feel like spending that much on a meal, I get the steak tips, which are awesome too. Aside from friendly bartenders and great food, the atmosphere is great and the décor is nice too. It’s nautical, but not like the inside of a gift shop. And much of it is very authentic, not cheap crap that you’d find in a big chain. There’s always something interesting to look at, or watch on one of their tastefully-placed TVs, or talk about with one of the friendly regulars. And if the bar scene isn’t interesting to you, there’s an entire dining room too! Try a wood fired pizza, some oysters, and a long island iced tea or an Old Chub, and please be generous to the staff, because this place is open year round, and I need them to be in a good mood when I stop in! Oh and try the wings with jerk spices instead of buffalo! It’s not on the menu but if you ask nicely they’ll do it!

Oliver’s is a restaurant/bar that’s versatile. Certain areas look like a family sit-down spot, while the huge bar and tables are chef out. Best of both worlds. We went twice and were impressed by the food and atmosphere both times. People at the bar are EXTREMELY friendly and provide great conversation. Multiple TVs around the bar show the games while certain nights have fun things like trivia. Like I said, the food is very good here. They also offer a dozen or so beers on tap and another dozen by the bottle. Aside from the usual domestic beers they have a handful of craft beer options, which was a nice touch. It’s definitely a place I’d come back to in the future for a casual bite.

If you come to oliver’s, sit at the bar!!! The bar is the only place you will get service at all without waiting 10 minutes for drinks and almost 40 min for food. Bartenders are also pretty friendly, it isnt their fault they work there. Food is BEYOND awful, all frozen, all takes forever to get to you, and really just all around tastes pretty bad. Its almost frustrating going here because you wait so long for bad food but I will admit I go back because it is convienant and have friends living near by. Go for a drink at the bar only.
