I moved to Yelm 11 year’s ago from sunny California between San Diego and L.A. Big city girl. Total culture shock! I found the people here to be very unfriendly, and God forbid they find out you’re from California or you’ll never be welcome .for some most of them hate Californian’s. After a while i realized that they aren’t all rude. They are just different here. More reserved. They’re not Big City people like me, but simple and humble. Instead of complaining about the weather and being so homesick, I suddenly started to see the amazing beauty of this small, but growing town. Once I became less«Malibu Barbie» and realized the peacefulness of the simple life, people began to relate to me better. The People who have been here for few generations are now my favorite people of all. Hard working, Old School people who would do anything to help a neighbor out. I never thought I’d ever like, let alone love this town, but it won me over. Everything i assumed about it and the people here were unfair and I was so wrong. Now I hate going to the city, especially Seattle, lol where I work because it is so crowded and everyone just rushing through their day on high speed. No thank you. I’ll come home to my farm, my humble neighbor’s, the peace and quiet. …this is my home and i love it. I wish it wouldn’t grow anymore. I never want it to change or be influenced by the«City Folk» like i used to be. Lol. It’s the best place to live, but please don’t move here! It’s big enough already.

Yelm is surprisingly awesome considering it is, well, Yelm. There are lots of indepently owned shops and very progressive ones at that. Organics. Farmers Markets. Natural medicine. It is small, but it is super liberal. The library is gorgeous and a nice place to hang out at. Stewarts Meats is the best butcher in the county.

Nice little town here, with some good business’s– but the traffic can be a pain in the ass sometimes here as its one road through the town with stop lights, so it can back up big time here. That being said, I like the small town feel of Yelm, and like going to some the business’s here including Quiznos.

I love Yelm WA. It’s where we bought our first house. Small town feel. If you stay here for a while you’ll stary to recognize faces and cars out on town. Friendly people although some are on the red neck side. High cost of living, taxes are through the roof, water in my neighborhood is crazy expensive but schools are good, location is great and we all love it here.

I love Yelm. I love Lacey more, but Yelm has just what you need to not feel so small town that your are super bored but small enough and removed from the big cities so it still feels rural. They have a Walmart and a very nice movie theater which last time I checked doesn’t take debit or credit cards. It’s such a quaint farming/livestock community. Very clean and it seems moderately safe.
