I come from the typical huge Italian American family that does the whole Sunday dinner gravy ritual. Therefore, mozzarella is a keystone to our cuisine. I’ve tried many different types from Little Italy to Arthur Avenue. However, I strongly believe that Avitable makes the best mozzarella ever. It is unmatched in texture and flavor. It is simply outstanding and has blown the socks off of everyone that we serve it to while entertaining. It is definitely a hidden gem, far away from where you would normally shop for Italian goods. (Arthur Ave.) Another item worth praising is their rice balls, filled with mozzarella in the center. They are fantastic and so addicting, especially when the mozzarella is warm and stringy. Yum! These disappear from the family table like hot cakes. Their cold cuts are also excellent, as well as their chickpea and lentil salads. Honestly, anything that you buy at this old school Italian deli will be nothing short of scrumptious.

One of the only true Italian delis left in the bronx. Great fresh food, service is good except if you show up during the lunch rush. Cuz well… They actually care about the quality of your sandwich. Lol. During the lunch rush expect to wait a while, aka don’t leave your car double parked. My go-​to hero here is a roastbeef with coleslaw. We get vato ring a lot from here for many of our family events. (6ft heros & hot trays). The place is pricey but they are pretty much the only option around anymore.

I look forward to Saturdays for the TRIPE! Delish! I also compare all fresh mozzarella to theirs. So far none anywhere compare. NO WHERE!!! I love the way the cold cuts are sliced. The staff takes care to slice the prosciutto (and all cold cuts) paper thin, layering it carefully between butchers paper. FRESH BREAD! But really, the mozzarella is THE BEST!!!

Thank god this place is right around the corner from me !! If you live in New Ireland like me and need something italian go here! Lunch time can be pretty packed but it’s worth it. I’m not commenting on sandwiches because any idiot can make a sandwich but try the hot food. I love the eggplant parm that they make and the rice balls. Try everything here. No need to go to arthur ave and pay and arm and a leg
