Nepperhan Community Center Inc. is a 501 © 3 community-​based organization, serving Yonkers and the surrounding area for the past 69 years. Our theme is Empowering Children & Families.

Mission Statement

Nepperhan Community Center provides a safe nurturing environment where children of all ages are equipped with necessary life skills, and their educational, social, spiritual, and emotional needs are addressed through interactive activities such as academic enrichment, sports, cultural arts, and workshops focusing on building self esteem, self-​confidence, conflict resolution, and team building, while learning to value and appreciate cultural diversity.

History

Established in 1930.

Nepperhan Community Center was founded by a group of concerned neighbors in the Nepperhan section of Yonkers (now Runyon Heights) in the late 1930’s. This group wanted a meeting place that could also accommodate recreational activities and classes for the youth. They identified a community room at 13 Monroe Street as the original location for these activities. Some of the early directors included Rosa Kittrell, and Doris Moore as acting Director, until Juanita Temple was officially named director. Nepperhan Community Center also became home to a Drum and Bugle Corp during those years led by George Perenchief.

Meet the Manager

Jim B.

Manager

Jim was born in Yonkers, New York. He is a graduate of Charles E. Gorton High School, where he received All-​American honors in basketball. After being highly sort after by universities nation-​wide, Jim chose New Mexico State University where he majored in Personnel Management, and has since obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Ministry from Bibleway Institute of New England, and a Masters and Doctorate Degree in Theology from the Open Bible Institute and Theological Seminary. He also received All-​American honors in basketball while at New Mexico State. After college he was drafted by the Kansas City Kings of the National Basketball Association, and also played for the Detroit Pistons. After leaving Iona College Jim became Program Coordinator at Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers where he now serves as their Executive Director. www​.jim​bostic​.com
